Every year I make a CD of about 18 or so songs to listen to on the ride up to Ann Arbor. As the season is fast approaching, I have decided it is that time. This year I thought I would ask the MGOBLOG community for input. What are your favorite songs to listen to before games?
Pump-up songs for Saturdays
Party in the USA
We're not Penn State.
...worse confederate flag FAIL
However, "Party and Bullshit in the USA" is a jam.
There is a guy smack in the center wearing a Michigan shirt.
Gotta have some Motley Crue. Kickstart my Heart always seems to do the trick.
Phoenix - 1901
Man Man - Top Drawer
Pogues - The Body of an American
Kid Cudi - Heart of a Lion
IMO, the best hype video ever created - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im6GYTecVmU
Please Dont Go- KWS
Coco Jumbo-Mr. President
Just Another Day-Jon Secada
for Jon Secada. Brilliant
The Bed Intruder Song
Being a Huntsville, AL native, I heartily agree.
We Ready - Archie
Good song, this always got me pumped up Friday night before our game.
Headstrong by Trapt...could be a good metaphor for our season.
Jedi Mind Tricks - Animal Rap
protip: "babby" is always a joke... unless you're on yahoo answers or Googling from Alaska.
It's a football game, not 1am at Rick's.
Drowning Pool Step Up,
Hit the lights Bodybag
I love Hit The Lights, though they were much better with their old lead singer.
Let's Go - Trick Daddy f. Lil Jon and Twista.
There is this great song that they play at the Big House every time that Michigan scores a touchdown. That usually pumps me up plenty. I would go with that one.
For some reason T.I. pumps me up so I play some of his stuff
No Love- Eminem and Lil Wayne
Drop the World, 3 Peat, The Sky is the Limit - Lil Wayne
Takeover, Run This Town, Public Service Announcement, Blueprint 2 - Jay-Z
Shining Down - Lupe Fiasco
And some Explosions in the Sky for good measure
I'm reluctant to say it, but Recovery might be Eminem's best album. The stuff that gets radio play is OK, but the rest is Eminem at his best.
Recovery is sick
I second that. Blueprint 2 is my favorite song to get myself pumped up. You can't go wrong with T.I either.
The Hell Song - Sum 41
Still Waiting - Sum 41
Come Out and Play - The Offsping
You're Gonna Go Far Kid - The Offspring
So Hard - Rhianna (guilty pleasure, can't help it)
Up All Night - Drake (low key but TONS of swagger)
Despicable - Eminem
No Love - Eminem
Mama Said Knock You Out - LL Cool J
Phenomenon - LL Cool J
Party Up - DMX
X Gon' Give It to Ya - DMX
One More Road to Cross - DMX
Where the Hood At - DMX
Aint Nuthin' to F*** With - Wu Tang Clan
Shook Ones Part 2 - Mobb Deep
How could I forget DMX? Add those songs to my list.
The whole 1st half of the MMB CD is a staple on game day.
Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler
Sailing - Christopher Cross
Greatest Love of All - Whitney Houston
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
It's Barwis! Open up! Your rent is due... NOW!
I'm old. Most of the recommendations could've been posted in Sanksrit, and I'd recognize the same amount.
Rancid - Junkie Man.
Old school offspring. Specifically the albums Ignition, Smash and Ixnay on the Hombre. I recommend the song Something to Believe In as that would go perfect for this season
We Are The Champions and Another One Bites The Dust
Craig Roh - Fuck Shit Up
Sabbotage and Highplains Drifter.
Anything AC/DC, but preferably "Shoot to Thrill"
Also, "Sabotage" and "She's on It" by Beastie Boys
Love AC/DC. Easily one of the best bands ever.
If you want to Rock n Roll. Turn it up until the bagpipes make your ears bleed!
If we're going to play RAWK music, might as well go all the way.
Ratt - Round and Round
"I WANNA ROCK" - Twisted Sister
It was a good day.
"A little less conversation" - really wish they would add this one to the big house rotation.
Tool - "Prison Sex"
Soundgarden - "Jesus Christ Pose"
Ministry - "Jesus built my Hotrod" (extended remix)
Mentioned above but Drop the World by Lil' Wayne is great pump up music.
Also Heart of a champion by Nelly is solid
mixed and produced by the Coner.
Edit: I'm a moron, he's a rapper
This song never really blew up for whatever reason, but i think "No Matter What" by TI is a really good one.
Concerto for Orchestra - Bartok
I once planned an entire trip to Europe around being able to hear the Bartok Concerto performed live by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. Well worth the effort, as that concert was mind-altering.
That's effing awesome. I'm incredibly jealous.
Bach FTW. Best song name EVER.
Today - Smashing Pumpkins
For the opposition - Idiot Wind - Bob Dylan
We used to be friends
This song is sweeter than you think. It grows on you.
Followed by Stranglehold by Ted Nugent.
Eminem - The Way I Am
Kid Rock - Bawitaba (sp?)
LL Cool J- Mamma Said Knock You Out
Drowning Pool - Bodies (Ridiculously cliche and overplayed. I don't care)
Tupac- Hit em up.
Biggie - Hypnotize
"Sabotage" and "Sure Shot" by the BBoys
"Renegades of Funk" and "Killing in the Name of" by Rage Against the Machine
Some kind of Foo Fighters
Helter Skelter by the Beatles
If your car has good bass and you are starting to feel tired, this song will defff. wake you up.
WARNING: If you listen to this song more than once your ears will bleed, and if you listen to this song high, you might think your in space.
Wouldn't mind hearing a change from AC/DC's Thunderstruck during warmups - nothing wrong with it other than getting a bit tired after two years.
but seriously, any Amon Amarth does the trick.
ok, no fair. Now i have to go and watch this movie. It is one of the movies i could never grow sick of watching.
I'll see you that song and raise you this one:
Powerman 5000 - When worlds collide.
Lil' Wayne - Do what we do
Lil' Wayne - When they come for me
The Early November "The Car In 20"
Thrice "Image of the Invisible"
The Classic Crime "Abracadavers"
Say Anything "People Like You Are Why People Like Me Exist"
Jimmy Eat World "Sweetness"
Brand New "Sink" (and the last 1:30 of "Vices")
Those some that I can think of off the top of my head.
Dillinger Escape Plan, Walls Of Jericho or Justin Beiber.
Everyone has their own traditions. Personally, one of my roomies used to wake us up VERY early every football Saturday morning to Black Water by the Doobie Brothers. I don't think there was any real reason for it except that it's an upbeat song that everyone liked...but for the rest of my life, that song will remind me of football Saturdays. And I love it.
but the sped-up version like in this intro
If you want to pump up the crowd, Cheese Rock is where it's at. Here's some music so bad, that it's good...
Starship -- "We Built This City"
Styx -- "Come Sail Away"
Boston -- "More Than A Feeling"
Night Ranger -- "Sister Christian"
Loverboy -- "Working For The Weekend"
What is bad about this music? That the compositions are intelligent, the music is powerful and engaging, and the production quality is top-notch?
Also, don't forget to add Asia to this list --- it was the heeeeeat of the moment!
Chili Peppers - Especially in Michigan
Powerman 5000 - When Worlds Collide....... Saw this posted above! AGREE
Metallica - Wherever I May Roam
Naturally, the MMB is a must. Other bands that get me similarly fired up
Also... Tool, Motorhead, Kyuss, Manowar, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and really any metal that is inspires glorious partying and revelry!!
And there can be no pre-game without Immigrant Song
