PSU Fallout opens up old recruiting options??? [Mod ED: Please Note]

Submitted by Bromigo on

[ED: BISB: We're gonna hold off on this kind of stuff. I've tried to tamp it down, but it keeps popping up.

This is not something to be taken advantage of.  This is something to be reviled. This is about child rape. Attempts to find an upside are not acceptable.]

but can we hold off on the recruiting implications of this story for a bit?  It seems like maybe that's not really the most important issue...

Hate to be preachy, but I just got done reading the grand jury report.  It is literally horrific.  Thoughts and prayers go out to all of the victims and their families.  Discussing the recruiting implications of this terrible tragedy seems to be in poor taste at this time...

Aside from this being slightly inappropriate at this point....

..don't forget, this isn't like Ohio State. The PSU issues are with a prosecutor and not the NCAA. Why would the NCAA allow players already with a program (as opposed to recruits) to leave their school without the one year wait if there is a coaching change for non-NCAA infraction reasons?

I don't see what would happen. NCAA won't do anything. Kids will probably get a better younger coach and stay. I don't know why people wanted to play for that old dinosaur who doesn't even coach on the sidelines, other than his legacy. Penn State as a team sucks, it doesn't take much to sway their recruits away.

I hope you're not serious...

Asking this question is logical and obvious.  Obviousely the situation is disgustingly horrible.  The poster didn't say "thank god this happened so we can get recruits!"

I mean, I coined the phrase Ped State U a little early, but I agree it's wrong to contemplate recruiting positives out of this situation.

We're all law abiding citizens but some courses of action which are legal, are worse than most of the worst felonies.  Walking by some guy beating up a girl and doing nothing is legal.  You're not legally obligated to do anything.  But you're morally lower than the worst bank robber for doing nothing.

This is even worse.  Children.  JoePa and McQueary are innocent legally, but but, if the grand jury report is accurate, guilty of about as bad a moral felony as we can imagine.

This is no time to associate this with football at all.

This situation is a bit different than say USC's.   I'm sure we'd be more than willing to open the doors for those that don't want to be associated with PSU, but at the same time, this isn't a situation that we should look to capitalize on, more help those who reach out.

Not mad at ya, it's still a sensitive situation.

Obviously, the horrors of this matter are still unfolding and the implacations are a hell of a lot bigger than football.

And obviously, we as a fanbase don't want to collectively say "good that this happened, so that we can pick off PSU's recruits."

But, I don't think that this is what the OP was saying.  Unless I read otherwise, I am going to go ahead and give the benefit of the doubt on this one (because otherwise, humanity really has no hope) and assume that he meant to say something like:

"this horrible event happened.  It is horrible and disgusting.  I really feel terrible for the kids and all of those touched by this horrible event.  As a result of this, a major rival of ours, who we recruit against is going to go through some shuffling and chaos.  I want to reiterate that football implications pale in comparison to the magnitude of these events.  But, there will actually be some football ramifications.  And, after reading all of the allegations of rape of children, I need to talk about something less horrible.  So, whether we like it or not, there will be football remifications from this, one being recruiting.  On a lighter note, and as a distraction from the horrors of this, and with no intent to make light of or diminish the magnitude of these horrible events, I am cusious how this will impact potential recruits.  Not in a vultureish "let's steal their recruits because this is a good thing for us that some kids got raped way" - just in a way that says "realistically, some kids will probably decommit.  Wonder if any will look to Michigan" way."

At least I hope that is how it was meant.

for those of you who have spent the time reading the grand jury report when you have absolutely nothing to gain from it, you are pervert yourselves.  spare me the "oh, it was so horrific, but i just HAD to read about 10 yr old boys getting raped by a stupid fucking piece of shit who should die" crap.  so don't come on here telling people not to talk about recruiting...give me a break.

The fact that you even THOUGHT about children being raped really leaves you with no firmer footing upon the moral high ground you'd like to believe you are sitting atop of...but thanks for playing.

Meh, I don't think you can ever criticize someone for reading the facts themselves rather that relying only on the media. Obvious example being the Duke Lacrosse case.
