PSU Fallout opens up old recruiting options??? [Mod ED: Please Note]
[ED: BISB: We're gonna hold off on this kind of stuff. I've tried to tamp it down, but it keeps popping up.
This is not something to be taken advantage of. This is something to be reviled. This is about child rape. Attempts to find an upside are not acceptable.]

but can we hold off on the recruiting implications of this story for a bit? It seems like maybe that's not really the most important issue...
November 8th, 2011 at 5:14 PM ^
no need for them young men to go to that school of ill repute, they need options!
November 8th, 2011 at 5:16 PM ^
Kind of a twisted way of looking at things. No?
November 8th, 2011 at 5:17 PM ^
Because recruiting is the first thing that pops into my head when JoePa pulls a Tressel but with rape instead of tattoos.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:17 PM ^
I feel sorry for all the players at PSU that have to deal with this crap.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:18 PM ^
We don't have enough room for the uncommitted players we're recruiting, much less those that are already committed elsewhere.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:19 PM ^
Too soon, let's call it a day on posts like these, eh?
November 8th, 2011 at 5:39 PM ^
I co-sign this sentiment. Let's wait just a bit long before combing through the ugliness and human wreckage that is this story. Feels a bit like taking a metal detector to the scene of a plane crash to look for coins and jewelry.

Hate to be preachy, but I just got done reading the grand jury report. It is literally horrific. Thoughts and prayers go out to all of the victims and their families. Discussing the recruiting implications of this terrible tragedy seems to be in poor taste at this time...

if PSU cleans house and the NCAA waives the year wait for transfers ala USC
November 8th, 2011 at 5:36 PM ^
Aside from this being slightly inappropriate at this point....
..don't forget, this isn't like Ohio State. The PSU issues are with a prosecutor and not the NCAA. Why would the NCAA allow players already with a program (as opposed to recruits) to leave their school without the one year wait if there is a coaching change for non-NCAA infraction reasons?
November 8th, 2011 at 5:22 PM ^
Speculation about how our favorite football team could potentially benefit from a cover up of multiple child sex assaults? Not for this board.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:26 PM ^
I don't see what would happen. NCAA won't do anything. Kids will probably get a better younger coach and stay. I don't know why people wanted to play for that old dinosaur who doesn't even coach on the sidelines, other than his legacy. Penn State as a team sucks, it doesn't take much to sway their recruits away.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:26 PM ^
.....is more or less full anyway, and in any event, I would REALLY feel uncomfortable trying to capitalize on PSU's nightmare like this.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:27 PM ^
There is a limit to how much I want to be a vulture.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:28 PM ^
Wanting to discuss gains from such a horrific situation, shame on you.
You need to be banned from this place.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:33 PM ^
I hope you're not serious...
Asking this question is logical and obvious. Obviousely the situation is disgustingly horrible. The poster didn't say "thank god this happened so we can get recruits!"
November 8th, 2011 at 5:28 PM ^
Wow. This thread has been up for 20 minutes. Surprised the mods haven't deleted it yet. Not. Cool.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:28 PM ^
I mean, I coined the phrase Ped State U a little early, but I agree it's wrong to contemplate recruiting positives out of this situation.
We're all law abiding citizens but some courses of action which are legal, are worse than most of the worst felonies. Walking by some guy beating up a girl and doing nothing is legal. You're not legally obligated to do anything. But you're morally lower than the worst bank robber for doing nothing.
This is even worse. Children. JoePa and McQueary are innocent legally, but but, if the grand jury report is accurate, guilty of about as bad a moral felony as we can imagine.
This is no time to associate this with football at all.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:36 PM ^
Remotely funny. You're a complete ass for coining that phrase. How would you feel if one of the victims was your son? I wish meg-bangs were back. Your account should be revoked.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:38 PM ^
....I think justingoblue might have an issue with board-instituted "meg-bangs", given the name of his GF (which is Megan, if I recall).
November 8th, 2011 at 5:39 PM ^
Ever heard of good samaritan laws?
November 8th, 2011 at 5:31 PM ^
This situation is a bit different than say USC's. I'm sure we'd be more than willing to open the doors for those that don't want to be associated with PSU, but at the same time, this isn't a situation that we should look to capitalize on, more help those who reach out.
Not mad at ya, it's still a sensitive situation.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:34 PM ^
I have no problem with this being a topic but I doubt PSU will see any attrition because of this.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:38 PM ^
is forced out, you can bet Robert Bolden will finally be able to transfer.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:41 PM ^
Obviously, the horrors of this matter are still unfolding and the implacations are a hell of a lot bigger than football.
And obviously, we as a fanbase don't want to collectively say "good that this happened, so that we can pick off PSU's recruits."
But, I don't think that this is what the OP was saying. Unless I read otherwise, I am going to go ahead and give the benefit of the doubt on this one (because otherwise, humanity really has no hope) and assume that he meant to say something like:
"this horrible event happened. It is horrible and disgusting. I really feel terrible for the kids and all of those touched by this horrible event. As a result of this, a major rival of ours, who we recruit against is going to go through some shuffling and chaos. I want to reiterate that football implications pale in comparison to the magnitude of these events. But, there will actually be some football ramifications. And, after reading all of the allegations of rape of children, I need to talk about something less horrible. So, whether we like it or not, there will be football remifications from this, one being recruiting. On a lighter note, and as a distraction from the horrors of this, and with no intent to make light of or diminish the magnitude of these horrible events, I am cusious how this will impact potential recruits. Not in a vultureish "let's steal their recruits because this is a good thing for us that some kids got raped way" - just in a way that says "realistically, some kids will probably decommit. Wonder if any will look to Michigan" way."
At least I hope that is how it was meant.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:47 PM ^
for those of you who have spent the time reading the grand jury report when you have absolutely nothing to gain from it, you are pervert yourselves. spare me the "oh, it was so horrific, but i just HAD to read about 10 yr old boys getting raped by a stupid fucking piece of shit who should die" crap. so don't come on here telling people not to talk about recruiting...give me a break.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:50 PM ^
The fact that you even THOUGHT about children being raped really leaves you with no firmer footing upon the moral high ground you'd like to believe you are sitting atop of...but thanks for playing.
November 8th, 2011 at 5:51 PM ^
Meh, I don't think you can ever criticize someone for reading the facts themselves rather that relying only on the media. Obvious example being the Duke Lacrosse case.
