PSU Announcers: McDonough, Millen, Rowe

Sean McDonough, Matt Millen, Holly RoweNo surprise as it's a 3:30pm game. I feel sorry for Nittany fans because I'm anticipating Millen to drool all over Tate again.

It is kinda fun to have Millen give Forcier the mini-Tebow treatment, but I really do love McDonough's whole announcing mojo even more.

Sean McDonough is a kind of a parody sportscaster; as if a late-night comdey crew dreamed him up for a football sketch.
But I have to say; sitting next to the unlistenable Matt Millen, Sean McDonough looks like he's ready for a sportscasting hall of fame.
From my perspective, Matt Millen did less global harm as the Lions' GM than he does as a purveyor of college football misinformation. I could happily ignore most of the NFL (except for perhaps the Michigan guys), and that included Millen. Now, Millen is sometimes unavoidable.
Yes, Millen likes Tate Forcier. No, it doesn't matter.

He is not bad at all. I wouldn't want him to give me fantasy draft advice or anything, but play-by-play he can do, about a billion times better than that dude..whats his name..oh yeah..Pam Ward.

Saying that "he is at least better than Pam Ward..." (Sean McDonough really is better than Pam Ward, which would be the true apples-to-apples comparison, since she is the play-by-play and "anchor" voice.)
And yeah, just below I mentioned that I saw the Wisconsin-OSU telecast replayed on BTN. And I've seen him on bits of NFL broadcasts, although the NFL is not really my sort of thing.
My thing with Sean McDonough is that he is forever associated with the concept of "we have too many events today to assign our best crew." So Sean McDonough gets every sub-regional game, every 1st round NCAA Tournament game, etc. Maybe he deserves better. As you have pointed out, it could be much worse, for the people who have to watch the game on tv, than to listen to Sean McDonough. I don't think there is worse than Matt Millen.

But that's just my opinion; and since I'm not a Lions fan, I've got limited downside with Millen on the crew.

Despite all the osu hate, Herbie is a pretty damn good announcer.

I actually like Musberger and Herbstreit, and I like Nessler and Griese too. Their appearance says, "big game."
And despite his being from a hated rival, I think Chris Speilman offers good color commentary too, despite his never being given much of an opportunity to do big games. He's a smart football guy. Unlike Millen.
And again, it really does not matter to me if Millen had had huge success with the Lions or not. I probably wouldn't have noticed one way or another. I judge him based only on what he offers to the telecast.

Millen went to PSU, so if he pisses them off by slobbering all of Tate, expect announcer cinspiracies to go hand in hand with ref conspiracies.

is that he doesn't attempt to make the broadcast about him. He just relays what he sees in a clear, unadorned manner. No man-crushes on players, no trendy cliches; just football. Thank-you, Sean.

Sean McD is solid. I like his crescendo method of announcing. As opposed to the over-hype style of Musberger.
As long as Tate is upright, it will be a great game.

UM had a huge win when he called the ND game.
Hopefully this continues, maybe he can be some sort of good luck charm for UM games, to atone for his sins with the Lions.

I think Mcdonough is a solid play by play guy, so I won't mind hearing him.
Although anyone is a step up of the BTN guys.

I do like McDonough but he has progressively become more crabby and whiney over the years. His calls on big plays are still solid gold though.

What about Millen bothered you guys? I enjoyed the ND game call also. I'm just glad Paul "Let Me Just Tell You Somethin" Maguire is no longer around to whine incessantly.

That's just off the top of my head. I think Matt Millen is one of the dumbest guys in that business.
Anyway, it won't be my problem from here on out, unless they happen to assign him to our game at Illinois because I'll be at all of the rest of them.

I will say his announcing was much better than what I remember of him calling NFL games.
One thing about Paul Maguire is that he was great comic relief - both Nessler and Griese though he was a complete tool.

Sometimes he does come up with things that make you laugh, but when he carries on for a full minute about how the defense should decline a false start penalty, you kinda wish the guy would keep his strategy-related comments to himself.

I was ambivalent about McDonough, but after attending this season's ND game and then watching the recorded broadcast, I thought he did a good job of conveying the excitement I had experienced in person. Regarding Millen, I gave up supporting the Lions after Sanders retired, so his tenure as the Lions' GM never bothered me, and I think he's a better than average color guy.

So i just went to espn.com college football schedule and it says that the 3:30 eastern time slot has either clemson at miami or oklahoma at kansas. no TV is listed for the UM game. since i live in kansas city they will show ou/ku game on ABC, and espn2 has racing on in that time slot, am i going to get screwed out of seeing michigan? somebody please help. i'm starting to freak out

when i checked my directv on screen guide last nite on espn it had "college football teams TBA" same thing for abc, and espn2 had nascar nationwide. but i just checked tvguide.com and it says "college football teams TBA" for abc, espn and espn2, so maybe i'll be ok. i sure hope so

If you can try to remove Matt Millen's "worst GM in hostory of professional sports" label, he is actually pretty good. This crew is a solid group. With that said, Millen has drooled all voer Tate in our games but did the same for PSU last week. I think he may be a little torn this week.
As for Pam Ward...give the guy some credit...he is trying his best.
