named "Blockhams with Dicks"

WTF. just WTF.

Someone is taking Six Zero's comic strips and drawing something with a similar style...there's just one...addition..to the characters..

Are you being a major dickhead because you enjoy being a major dickhead, or just because you think the cool kids will like you better if you act like a major dickhead?

I'm no great fan of the Blockhams, but you won't find me ragging on the strip, because the artist makes it for free and shares it because he thinks some here might enjoy it.  I can choose to simply not enjoy it without saying a fucking word, because the guy is trying to do me a favor which I happen to not want.  Only dickheads spit on things offered freely and which can be refused without comment (and thus without harm on any side).

I am old enough to have lived in a pre-Blockham world.  I find life in the post-Blockham world depressing and drab. I long for a return to the glorious pre-Blockham days.

Good job working those curse words into your rant! You clearly mean business.

You and I are on the same page and that page will never have Blockhams on it. I too remember a time when I could log on and not have some all caps garbage post in the diaries. Those were good days, fine people back then. Handshakes and smiles. "How's the wife and kids?" I would say. But not now. These days are much worse. A cloud of boring storylines and poorly drawn artwork hangs above us like the stink of a million dead kittens... in a receptacle of some sort... or not. The point is the Blockhams are terrible and the world is a porrer place for having them in it. I enjoy the BHams + D though. Not bad at all.

"The world is a poorer place" is just mean, and totally unnecessary to get your point across about your tastes on the comic strip. I haven't gotten to meet Six Zero in person but I've interacted many times with the guy, and each time has reinforced the fact that he is simply an incredibly nice person. I think you can tell this fact simply from how he has acted on this site, and that makes it all the crappier when you step over the line from criticism of his cartoon. You do have the right to not read it.

On the content, sigh, I am as disappoint as you. I've discussed the comic at length with artists and with comic authors and we are not alone in judging the characters unlikeable, the plots trite, and the jokes ranging from flat to terrible. To my tastes, the comic is crap. I've directed my complaints to Six and he's been deaf to them because that's not how he works--he creates this thing that he wants to and it's up readers if they want it.

There is a large segment of our readership that doesn't share my tastes. They like The Blockhams and consistently offer encouragement. Nobody gets hurt if that segment gets to have something they find hugely entertaining that some guy puts a lot of work into for his fans every week. Nobody gets hurt by one more Diary a week. I do keep an eye on it in case there's a good strip that comes along, and conversely in case he does something that would reflect badly on the site or the fanbase. That hasn't happened yet.

And it probably won't because Six is just a nice guy. He does a fantastic job on the shirts, everybody liked his interview things, and he's not out to hurt anybody, which is more than I can say for a lot of his detractors.

Only if all negative crticism is inherently mean. I should think intent and sentiment and wording would play a role. There are plenty of folks around here who do think that way (e.g. those who think it's a personal attack on a player when Brian hands out UFR negatives) but by now I would hope they've all learned this blog doesn't cater to that way of thinking.

Is negative criticism that is mean, but "it's crap" is "constructive" or whatever.

In your example, if Brian says "the player is not good at tackling" that's criticism.  If he says "the player is not good at tackling; he needs to read the play better" or "go for the wrap up instead of the big hit" that's constructive criticism. If he says "the player played like crap" that's probably mean, not constructive, though it could still be accurate. And if he just says "he's crap" , welllll....

Not that Brian does this, but I'm interested in where you think your statement falls in there. I don't really care if you harshly judge the strip; I'm just curious how you delineate someone else's statement from your own.

Thanks a bunch OP.  I came on line and saw that thread but by the time I clicked it on it I was too late and it was already gone.

And I would be outraged if the person who did this made a new screen name and re-posted so others could see it.  My anger would know no bounds if this travesity should somehow get reposted so people who say.....clicked on the thread too late.....were forced to read this filth.

Please don't do that whoever made this cartoon.  I'm begging you..please DO NOT MAKE A NEW SCREEN NAME AND REPOST THIS SO OTHERS CAN SEE IT TOO.

That would be wrong.
