PSA - Philadelphia Area BYU Game Coverage Starts at 1pm

Submitted by BlueFab5 on

ABC 6 in Philadelphia is scheduled to have coverage of Pope Francis until 1pm Saturday.  The game should be available on Watch ESPN.

On another note, how the F is Watch ESPN not available on Samsung smart TV's?

watched Transparent?  So completely bizarre and yet completely hypnotic.  It is like the "Indie" version of an HBO or AMC drama.

Also, I'm looking for other Amazon recommendations.  There are multiple show returning in about a month(Leftovers, Affair, Homeland-yes I know Homeland sucks but I still hate watch it) but I am in a deadzone until then.

Transparent is phenomenal. The Emmys it won are all deserved.

I watched the first two seasons of Vikings on Prime this summer and it was pretty awesome (if you're into that genre, anyway). If you're into killing time, watch Rome or Deadwood on Prime. Deadwood is the best.

We recently finished the seasons that were available of "Strike Back," which is free on Amazon Prime and was made jointly by Sky1 (Britain) and Cinemax, about British MI6 special ops guys.  Suspenseful and fun (with some Skinemax elements thrown in).

The Samsung we bought for the family room is a Smart TV and it is a feature we rarely use save for Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime, and even then, the load times on the apps and the interface in general is pretty clunky and sometimes rather unforgiving if you make a mistake. Strangely enough, there are many days where I seem to live the digital equivalent of my previous analog life and just watch TV. It's easier somehow.

The Pope needs to get his priorities straight. He should be watching the game. Either that or it's going to be live footage of the Pope watching the game which would be gret.

Words could not even begin to describe how pissed I'd be if I lived in Philadelphia over that programming decision.

Prolly the first (and last) time I'll be able to say "sure glad I live in Cleveland".

In 2008, the local ABC station in Philadelphia elected not to show the Michigan-Ohio State game (!) in order to show the Pennsylvania High School quarterfinal game (!!) between LaSalle HS and George Washington HS.

The Michigan-OSU game was supposed to be bumped to ESPN in Philadelphia, but many households did not get it at all.

That is kind of weird that WatchESPN is not on Samsung TVs. I have a Samsung and never even thought to look for WatchESPN. The main reason I bought the Samsung is because they're the only smart TVs that allow HBO GO, but that app hasn't been working for a long time and it pisses me off. Now all I do is connect my Macbook to my TV in case I want to watch HBO GO there. I can do the same thing with WatchESPN, of course. That is the living room, though. I have the Xboxes in the theatre room downstairs, which both stream HBO GO and WatchESPN.

I have no idea what this means.

EDIT: Im not saying I dont understand people who like religion. I'm saying I dont get what church is like I guess. Like I've never been to one. It was like watching Aussie Rules Football. Stuff happening, people doing things I didn't know you could do. What are the rules? Why did that guy kick that thing? I was more curious than anything.

is really not a part of the American society anymore, at least not "mainstream" society.  I don't think it is surprising that you were completely lost(and if you were like me, slightly uncomfortable).  The entire concept of religion is really not part of our culture anymore.  I'm NOT saying that is a good thing, just that it is a thing.

I wasn't uncomfortable really other than when people just knew when to stand up and I didn't. It was just super weeeeeeeeeird. From the dippy bowl at the door to the random speaking from the crowd in unison to the face touching. Super weird. And there was this kid who just followed the old guy around the whole time and didnt do much of anything that I could see.  The kid was just there like a minion. Super weird stuff I've never seen before.

There are more churches in the Charlotte area than you can count. In fact, we have churches at high schools here. The church traffic at midday on Sunday is worse than rush hour on a weekday. Church and religion are front and center part of the social fabric here, though I agree that across the country fewer people belong to churches and consider themselves religious.

It seems to be a part of so many arguments that are not allowed to be discussed on here.  I've been in the south where religion is still king.  I work at a Jewish organization where their religious beliefs are still big in that community.  And look at how the Pope is dominating headlines.

I think we just have more going on thanks to technology and our diversity as a nation, so religion has company at the top of the food chain.

Sit behind an old person, watch the guy with the biggest hat at the front of the church, follow along using the books in pews (look for the grey shaded margin pages), and if you're not an active Catholic in good standing, don't go to the front at the end for the free bread / wine. Basic construct is:

- Sing a song to start

- Get forgiveness with a prayer & a song

- Hear some Bible stories (1 Old Testament, 1 New testment, 1 Gospel)

- HALFTIME! Preacher preaches. Use restroom if necessary.

- Food prep with prayers & song, bread / wine magically transformed into Holy Eucharist

- Catholics get their free snacks while everybody else sits

- Dismissal

That's only applicable at churches with James Brown as pastor (see The Blues Brothers).

Although I've been to some great Catholic churches in US Virgin Islands that do the whole mass in reggae / calypso style. It's great.

Gotcha. Went to one last summer, had no idea where we were in the program. But the worse, was going to my cousin's all Greek Orthodox wedding, where the bride and groom were led around the sanctuary by the priest in some Byzantine ceremony. Afterward, my cousin called the priest the "dark one." He eventually divorced his wife. Guess the ceremony was the cause of future issues, strict Greek orthodoxy versus not so much.

crap!  I'm in Philly and could care less about any Pope.  Why are people suggesting 'Watch ESPN' app?  I fired it up and it doesn't look like they carry ABC games.  Am I missing something?

Also, assuming local bars won't get it either?  Any other options anyone can think of besides finding a shady online streaming website?

it. I typically am a man of reasonable self-control, but if I go to a bar for the stated purpose of watching a Michigan game without any real social purpose I will return home in a cab or after being picked up by my disgusted wife, wasted, with a receipt in my pocket for $73.00 that reflects double digit beers, wings, and possibly jalapeno poppers that I paid by credit card and tipped with my $8.00 win on my last Keno game.  Not a good scene.
