Provide your speculation on current Michigan topics

Submitted by 1464 on

Baseless speculation is like the engine for the internet.  Given that, I wanted to kick around a few topics and get the board's temperature on a few items.  And for you Festivus fans that don't like this thread - I challenge you to a wrestling match.  Best answer will have a donation given, in their name, to the Human Fund.

1. Will Devin Gardner's last game in a Michigan uniform be a playoff game?

2. Is Michigan the next B1G team to go to the Final Four in MBB?

3. Who is the final unbeaten team in the B1G this year in football?

4. How many recruits commit at the BBQ in July?  Who are they?

5. Which current recruit is going to shock us by picking Michigan?  Which recruit is going to shock us by not picking Michigan?

How Bout this:

When will Brian give us back MGoPoints? When will we rise up in defense of the greatest tradition of Michigan football?

A former employer of mine once had a backlog of IT related issues so large that if there were any manual work-arounds, they would not dedicate any IT time to providing a solution.  This inspired me.  I think we should adopt a work-around for the points system.  From now on, whenever you want to "+1" someone, just say so in a post, remembering to explicitly say who you're awarding the point.  For example:

+1 to uniqenam

Then, we nominate someone to read every post, and manually tally the points.  Once a week, that person can post an update of users' points, so we all know where we stand.

I nominate one of the following two people to be in charge of this new system:

1.  uniqenam

2.  not me

Just in case anyone thinks this is actually a good idea:  /s

An offshoot of this:

I think that if a post is at -1 or +5 and we want to add our opinion, we simply reply with "-1" or "+1" as the entirety of the post.  Eventually, Brian will be forced into making the change, as his entire board will be littered with these comments.  It would make life suck on here for a few weeks... but greater good, man.

but I think you're overestimating the time Brian puts into reading the board and the willingness to write the code for a fix that will only matter briefly, before MGo3.0 or whatever is released. It's been confirmed that points are coming back, but tripling the amount of comments in a thread probably wouldn't do anything other than serve as a minor headache for people trying to read those threads.

So, Brian puts out the best college football blog on the foodchain, and the way someone wants to repay him is by tripling his workload and mucking the comments up for the rest of us?

At least we now know that athletes aren't the only people who have a "sense of entitlement."

The Detroit Lions finally give up on the pretense of ever fielding a worthy football team and recast/rebrand themselves as the "Michigan Wulverines" of the NFL.  The Wulverines uniforms are identical to the Michigan Wolverines of college football legend except for their chromed wing helmets (Dave Brandon takes note of this favorable development)

The Wulverines draft recent Heisman Winner Devin Gardner who eventually leads the Michigan Wulverines to 5 Super Bowl wins.   With nothing left to prove, Devin retires early from professional football -- playing his last Super Bowl game in the Michigan uniform he wore for his college national championship game-- and becomes a legendary Kung Fu actor/director/producer.

i speculate that, based on his tweet below (which was retweeted by Tom VH), Jalen Brown will NOT be commiting to UM during today's visit:

1. No, probably not.  We should be a very good team in 2014 (the first year of the playoffs), but there are too many unknowns to confidently project us as a top-4 team by then.  Plus, our 2010 and 2011 recruiting classes, who should be forming the senior leadership of the 2014 team, are far thinner than they should be for a realistic championship run.  Assuming Morris or Speight is the real deal, I think 2015 is when our championship window will start to open.

2. Again, probably not, but just because of numbers.  We have as good a chance as anyone in the B1G, but just based on the number of teams in the conference who have the talent/coaching to make it there, chances are that someone else does it before us.

3. Due to a ludicrously easy nonconference schedule, I think Ohio State will be undefeated well into October.

4. Two.  Damien Harris in the class of 2015, and one recruit (don't know who) in the class of 2014.

5. Adoree Jackson is going to pick Michigan.  Da'Shawn Hand is going to pick Virginia Tech - don't know if that's necessarily a surprise, but I think a lot of us on the board are getting our hopes up.

Its a Monday, and its the offseason. I'll bite:

1. Not sure. I know its a bit of a cop-out to say "I'll play the wait and see game," but I'd really like to see how Gardner elevates his game this Fall. If he lives up to his potential, then yes, his last game will absolutely be in a playoff. Unless he does so well this year that it'd be stupid of him to not bolt for the NFL. But in a yes/no scenario, I say yes. 2014 should be the year where our overall depth/talent level is where it needs to be to compete at at that high a level. 2012 guys will be juniors, 2013 guys will have had a year of experience under their belts and become stud sophomores, and the 2014 playmakers will all be coming in at the right time.

2. You'd certainly have a good case for it, but I think MSU has just as good a shot next year, if not a better one. But if we want to make another Final Four run, the Albrecht/Walton combo has to at least partially make up for the loss of Burke (You can't wholly make up for it. Not that kind of production). McGary and Robinson will do their part and be better than they were last year, but if you're asking which team will make it next, I'd say MSU has the best shot, by a slim margin, then us. Indiana will be down this year w/o Oladipo and Zeller, and OSU lost the only guy on their team who can score.

3. I hate to say it, I really do, but Ohio. I don't think they'll go undefeated, but I think they'll be the last ones to lose, whether its against us, or a stunner against Purdue (somehow Purdue has their number). They'll be damn good next year, but they won so many close games last year, that I think next year they're just going to lose one game that they shouldn't. Or they'll lose to us. Or both, which would be nice. But I think they'll be the last to lose. There's a chance it'll be us, but I think we might slip up somewhere next year, maybe Notre Dame or, God forbid, Penn State.

4. I don't know who all is going to the BBQ. If Malik goes, there's a chance he'll commit, but that's just pure speculation on my part. I have no clue.

5. I want to say Leonard Fournette, but I can't say it with a straight face since that's essentially a pipe dream even if he comes on campus. I'd say the one that shocks by coming to Michigan is Adoree Jackson. I can see he's really intrigued by the idea of playing with Jabrill, they both really like each other, and he seems to really like Michigan. Granted, he could end up anywhere, but as far as pure speculation goes, I've got a good feeling about him.

6. I have zero basis for this, and again, pure speculation, but Da'Shawn Hand. When he said he wanted to go the engineering route, I figured he'd be a mortal lock for Michigan. Unless he ever considered Georgia Tech, Michigan is the best option for that in America. But now that he's going the sports management route, I'm not so sure. I also think he might be a kid that is enticed too much by getting to play for a top-SEC program. And I certainly couldn't blame him for it. Its obvious that we're not going to land every top recruit we come across. For all the good fortune we're having now, we're going to lose out on someone eventually. Hand still has a serious shot of coming here, but who knows what will happen.

1. Will Devin Gardner's last game in a Michigan uniform be a playoff game? Sadly, no.  Our division + B1GCG is asking a lot and until I see evidence we CAN do it, I'll remain pessimistic.

2. Is Michigan the next B1G team to go to the Final Four in MBB? Sadly, no.  It's sooooo difficult to reach the Final 4.  State is stacked and their little "Final 4 streak for every 4 year player" is on the line.

3. Who is the final unbeaten team in the B1G this year in football? Us.  I have high hopes this year.

4. How many recruits commit at the BBQ in July?  Who are they? No Idea.  No idea.

5. Which current recruit is going to shock us by picking Michigan?  Which recruit is going to shock us by not picking Michigan? Don't know who is shocking us by picking Michigan, but Malik McDowell will shock us the other way.

1) He will be wearing a playoff uniformz that 90% of MgoCritics will hate

2) Michigan's Basketall team has the most likely success in returning to the MBB final four over any other sport, since they play more BB than any other Michigan team.

3) The team that loses a game in which they were previously the only undefeated team

4) #EATMOARSUBS

5) DeShawn Hand, Jay Harris
