Prove you are a Michigan Basketball fan
The joke replies in the "Michigan Basketball Resurgence" post made me think that this would be a good post. (and it is my first ever).
List your favorite michigan basketball players from the years that the teams were not as easy to watch as they've been the last few years.
My cool story bro - I shared freshman year orientation with Avery Queen and Josh Moore - one 7'3" and the other 5'8". They drove around in a red ford tempo.
My favorite player? Probably Senior year Graham Brown.
could have gone anywhere he wanted, anywhere. He's my pick, too.
Yeah, Blanchard led in scoring all four years and rebounding. Asselin never seemed to reach his potential. He was a big guy with good hands, good athleticism, and good footwork. He just never put it all together.
Daniel Horton 02-06
smooth like kessler
Tariq Abdul-Wahad was pretty good, too!
Les Abram (first saw him as a sophomore at Pontiac Northern. Injuries in college hurt him)
Ron Coleman
I really liked Chris Young. Nice guy, played hard. His freshman year was the first year of Michigan's nose dive to hell from the sanctions.
I went to senior night at Crisler in 2002. The team was awful. The opponent was Ohio State, who was finally starting to turn their program around. The game ended up being a 9 point loss. The Buckeye fans in the upper bowl were assholes. The game was already lost but during the final timeout, Chris Young ran out to mid-court, bent down, and kissed the block M. I loved his loyalty despite the team's unfortunate results over his career.
His parents kept going to games and got primo spots in the Maize Rage for almost ten years after he graduated. It was cool at first, but got a little sad after a while.
He totally crushed the Chris Rock lookin dude they had a while back.
Graham Brown did that to a few guys. It was always awesome to watch him truck someone.
Can't place that one over McGary against Kansas last year.
Yep, he would be my pick as well.
Another guy that comes to mind. He was the captain of the team, and went to my high school. He was a geniunely great guy - The type of person that remembers everyone he meets, and treats them like they are his one of his buddies.
HA! Talk about big man on campus. He knew EVERYBODY!
Yeah, he's a great guy. He knows everyone, moved back to A2 in 2005 for law school, and then ended up coming back again afterward. He was a good captain and a great leader for young guys.
It will sound a little odd perhaps, but I was always intrigued by the game of Lester Abram to a certain extent. He was a dead-on free throw shooter most of the time and played some pretty good basketball in his time in Ann Arbor, winning numerous team awards as well as a few conference honors. I think he might have been an AAU teammate of Graham Brown, now that I think about it.
The only problem was if anyone as much as breathed on Lester Abram, he'd get hurt. Every season, he'd start hot, get hurt, and limp through to a middling finish.
All of the above, except I don't think anyone mentioned Dion Harris. That guy would have been so much better if he actually had some help.
Beat me to it
started watching Michigan basketball in about JB's 2nd or 3rd year... so.. NOVAK!!!
While the teams were great the following years, Jason Bossard wasn't. But I loved watching him shoot during warmups
Bernard Robinson and Blanchard were my early 2000s favorites.
And Petway, Chris Young, and Josh Asselin were fun, too.
EZ E. Eric was so layed back, he barely had a pulse. He could walk on his hands....with his feet on the ceiling. His roommate frosh year was a 5'2" cheerleader/bodybuilder.
Blanchard was great too. I remember running into him at the IM building 3 years ago where he went to play pick up ball in the summer. Pretty sure I was one of like 4 people to recognize him as a former michigan stud
Bernard Robinson Jr. Spin move. FTW.
The Tractor. Sad he's gone.
no "cool story" moments, but some other names not already mentioned:
Gavin Groninger
Jerret Smith
Dominic Ingerson
LaVell Blanchard
This one was mind-blowing to see from the Maize Rage. I remember Jerrett chucking it and just thinking wtf, then complete insanity.
and Horton
