Proposal re "Michigan Bars"

Submitted by marlon on
I've seen a number of posters ask where a they can watch Michigan games in X city. As someone who is occasionally on the road during autumn weekends, I've found myself with the same question. To solve this problem, I propose the creation of an MGoBlog/MGoBoard comprehensive list of "Michigan bars" across the country/world that could provide quick answers to fellow Wolverines who finds themselves in foreign territory, far from the motherland. Thoughts?

hopefully the google spreadsheet auto saves my changes. I added the San Diego alumni assocation bar, PB Bar and Grill, in Pacific Beach. Edit: http://www.pbbarandgrill.com/ Its a crappy bar (IMO), but its the 'official bar'. Personally I like to go next store to Moondoggies, the official OSU bar and talk shit with their fans. The Michigan fans in SD are just like going to the blue-hair section of the stadium - all quiet and sober. Nothing better than tequila and beer at 9am on saturdays :)

Will the Google Doc have a link to a Google Map of all the locations? If not, I'd be willing to work on a way to auto-generate said map whenever someone updates the spreadsheet. It will go along with my quest to map out the ballgames of the day.

Good idea, but it was brought up by TTUwolverine already. Check the mgoboard history from a few days ago for more details.

go to UMalumni.com, "get active" "find a club", click on the map. If there is a club in the area you will find it. You dont need to be an alum or an alum assoc member to find the football parties.

Since you're already on top of this, maybe you can search through the old threads for other bars. Off the top of my head there were at least 2 NY threads, a Boston thread...

I don't know who's updating this, but the spreadsheet is a great idea. 2 more in Chicago: Newport's (chill, games, dive bar, good atmospere) Lakeview Matilda's (smaller and trendy, but great specials on jars of Bells) Lakeview

Baltimore http://www.crazylils.com/ Mackinaw The Key Hole Bar 323 E Central Ave Mackinaw City, MI 49701 There are both MSU and UM fans in this place but it's in tourist-y Mackinaw. After watching a few season openers here on Labor Day weekends, I can attest to the owner's and bartender's allegiances.

It doesn't seem to make sense to put up the bars in Ann Arbor but the other parts of MI shouldn't be neglected. I think it's assumed that most people using this list are traveling and that some will need to know where to watch in say, Kalamazoo, Petoskey or Alpena. Those places aren't exactly close enough to just go scalp a ticket.

Or someone else put it on there. Everything I've put on there was from: My own experiences (all of the Chicago bars pretty much) and from other people who said "hey put the stuff from this site on there" So I cannot judge the authenticity of any of these places and would recommend calling the bars if you plan on making a venture. We should also have a weekend round-up of bars that you've been to that weekend so that people can have an idea about what is good and what is not good?

More than a few of us on this board need to know the best bars to hang out in front of and beg, er, secure loans from patrons going in and out (we WILL pay them back). And it would be helpful to know which ones have TV's nearer to the windows so we can peek in and keep up with the action. Thanks in advance!

I think it would be really great to make this thread a sticky so that we don't get so many posts on it now that we've taken the step of making a list. Brian or someone else with special powers?
