Procedure For A Monday Release?

So let's assume that Brandon has gone into full CYA mode and the administration has finally had enough of the Hoke regime's incompetence. Assuming that Michigan wanted to give him his walking papers on Monday, how would the logistics even work? It's obvious after the Morris situation that Hoke is done, but will Michigan's culture prevent a Kiffin-ing / Weis-ing of Hoke?

I'm assuming Hoke would be notified first, then his staff, the AD, and the players. But if there's no interim replacement waiting in the wings, can you realistically announce to the public that he's out? You don't want a power vacuum to develop in the absence of leadership, although if the reports of offense v. defense in the locker room are true, it already seems like there's borderline anarchy in the first place.

Do you start negotiating with other college coaches / NFL assistants behind the scenes while the interim guy does his thing? And what role do the Regents play? Are they really going to let Dave Brandon torpedo another coaching search? Even if he does find a top-tier candidate, what elite coach is going to want Brandon in the film room with him looking over his shoulder?

Basically, I'm confused on how the timing of a Monday dismissal would work. Personally, I think it should happen regardless of the logistics, but I was wondering if anyone closer to the program than I could provide any insight on how it would actually go down.

Weird statement...I thought that the common criticism of Dave Brandon is the exact opposite of what you say. I thought most would say he is always trying to control every issue, tinker with everything, make changes constantly, and react to everything. I think your comment better describes Bill Martin and his yacht voyages than it describes Brandon.

Not happening. I'm betting that he gets to finish the season, and if we finish without a bowl game, Hoke gets his pink slip on the Monday after the OSU game. If the season keeps going down the toilet, DB will start searching for a replacement sooner rather than later. Call him an egotistical SOB, but he knows how much money he stands to lose from donors and ticket sales if he keeps Hoke. Also, remember he played for this team. I guarantee he hates watching us lose just as much as the rest of us. If not moreso.

You better hope they don't beat one of MSU or OSU. If they do and lose the rest of the games, he may not get fired.

I just don't see him getting fired on Monday. As much as I want him to be relieved, it is not happening.

He will have the same answers on Monday presser. Can't wait for the presser!!!

Unless, some solid news comes out regarding Morris incident and Brady had a direct hand in the incident, he is not going to be fired.

We all can just complain for the next 3 months and miss the bowl. I would not even be surprised, if he gets another year as he will only have his recruits and he can show what he can do.

I am done buying tickets and just going to focus on school. F Brady and the clowns. F the coach. F our rival fans. We will be back, with a vengeance, in 2018!!!

I think Brandon has ambitions that go beyond this job. Turning a blind eye to what happened to Morris yesterday would make for a really bad campaign commercial. I think he acts, and soon.

If Brady were to get canned now, the interim would almost surely come from the current staff. Mattison, if he'll do it, Jackson or Hecklinski otherwise are my guesses. I'm in the camp that believes he's going very soon. $1M isn't going to dictate that decision. Under the circumstances it's chicken feed. How much did the bad publicity from yesterday cost? Buyouts get negotiated anyway.

I dont think it happens tomorrow, Give a little time for the lawyers to negotiate and to make it not look like an emotional reaction to Saturday. I'll be very surprised if he coaches another game in AA.

We're not serious unless we actually start playing the game that the rest of the top programs are - $10 million/year for coach and the OC/DC. I am skeptical that Michigan is willing to spend that kind of money, even though the donor base is one of the few rich enough to bank roll it. They don't want to seem desperate, but they aren't flashing the cash to bring the big names in. That's another barrier we need to pass. Let's not kid ourselves here - this is a business, there is no such thing as amateur athletics anymore.

the standard operating procedure in firing a coach at year end is to do it after the last regular season game, regardless of whether the team is going to a bowl or not.  The replacement coach is almost always hired before the bowl game.  The reasoning is to get a leg up on forming a new staff and to hold the recruiting class together.

Remember how unusual it was that DB kept RR twisitng in the breeze leading up to the bowl game after 2010?  It needs to be done sometime before standard public appearances by the outgoing coach on Monday.

If $1M is going to be the justification to keeping Hoke the QB Killer until January 1, we have far greater issues than getting rid of a coach.  The only thing that this AD has done well is to stock pile cash like Scrooge McDuck.  This is a time that it needs to be used and hiring the new coach is another critical time to use some of the stock pile.

I just don't see Hoke getting fired before DB.  I could see both getting let go on Monday.
