Problems Looming for Iowa Football

Submitted by Geaux_Blue on

As the other thread on this was killed because it was too paywall'd, that KCCI Des Moines is now reporting should place this topic into the public realm:

Jewel Hampton posted the following message on his Facebook page Sunday night: "Former Hawkeye!!! wats next???"

Iowa Spokesman Steve Roe told KCCI on Sunday night that he is unaware of any change to Hampton's actual status with the team. We should find out in the next few days if Hampton's departure is legitimate.

Hampton's sophomore season was cut short when he injured his knee against Arizona in September. The running back was considered one of Iowa's best players entering the year.

It has been a tough couple of days for Iowa football. On Tuesday, WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos was suspended after being arrested on drug charges. Friday night, running back Brandon Wegher was officially granted his release from the team.

I'll save JamieMac the work on recommending Missouri in that bowl game. FWIW, more rumors out there that more bad news looming.

Yeah I just moved to Iowa (6 weeks or so ago) for a job opportunity and there is nothing but miles upon miles of corn & soybeans. There seems to be much more corn than soybeans but soybeans is pretty huge here too. And most of the Iowans I've talked to don't mind Michigan because they're either Iowa fans who hate Iowa State or Iowa State fans who hate Iowa -- when I say I'm a Michigan man they just almost always say, "Your quarterback is fast" or "What do you think of your coach?"

Yeah, this is a mess. No one really seems to know Hamptons situation. He has had poor luck with injuries in his Iowa career so there is the chance that he is just giving up the game. If he is, then it doesn't really mean anything. The was something in relation to that Facebook status. Adam Robinson then posted something like "Live it up." That would concern me too as a Hawkeye. Is being a Hawkeye that bad? I don't know but that program really needs to find it's footing somehow. They already have a bi-polar fanbase, this could put them over the edge in getting rid of the staff.

You seem to know an awful lot about the situation for a casual MGoBlog commenter.  The only logical conclusion that can be made from this: Mustachioed Gentleman is the leader of  a Mexican drug-trafficking cartel with close ties to the Iowa Hawkeyes football.

And yes, your moustache did give you away, as anyone with a moustache is clearly evil.

in the BHGP thread (want to be clear that they're RUMORS, and are sourced by things like "I'm friends with a guy who lives with some of the players involved), then it sounds like a hilariously large portion of the team is failing drug tests and getting suspended.

most of his career at Iowa.

That's what I remember about him. Talented kid.

Interesting that Hampton was a 2-star, No. 182 ranked tailback in the nation and was outshined by a 2-star, No. 181 tailback in the national (Adam Robinson).

Sitting behind two other backs, missed the last two years and will have new freshmen coming in for PT. This would not be entirely surprising. He "was" considered their best back, who know what he is at this point. Smith took a long time to get back to somewhat normal in his running with one back knee. Hampton is a fat-back where I think that road back is a bit longer.
