I was really looking for ward to this, but I guess it was not to be.
Probably won't have both Hokes
I would have liked him as the DB coach but wasn't in favor of having him, as the DC.
Welcome to the board! Just liked the name and Avatar!
did your username used to be RICHRODJUNKIE4LIFE ???
No. I don't know who that is. Just made this account yesterday. I've been reading this site for about a year now but just made an account yesterday.
with the hoke and the name and the rodriguez and the name and GLEEBON
And the Bears have a game this weekend...
Lets see what he says after the Bears are out of the playoffs.
If he doesn't like to recruit, I think this is for the best. Ask Gerg.
Yes. This makes me happy
Probably won't happen, but what about Rob Ryan? I hear he is out as part of the Mangini regime change in Cleveland. The defense was actually pretty good for Cleveland most the season. The Ryans always have a nack for making pretty good defenses.
DC to come to CFB as a DC. I think it's viewed as a step down. The Weis hire was a pretty big surprise.
Weis wants to become a HC in college again. Being the OC at a top program and be an active recruiter will help him become that again.
Weis also has an oldest son (I think it's son, might be daughter) who just enrolled at Florida. I think that had more to do with it than anything.
In a case like that it isn't viewed as a step down but I'd venture to say you're right about lateral moves from college to the NFL, not a lot of people are doing that.
I'm not sure he's the right fit. I bet we will lose Florida as a major recruiting ground. I think we want a DC who will reinforce that midwest recruiting area. Maybe Denard gives us an added presence in Florida but I would prefer a midwest guy.
Just curious.. what's Wannstedt up to? I wonder if our defense needs a stache.
If you can recruit Florida, you damn well better. All this Midwest talk is just fluff for the old guard. If you want to win in this day and age you better recruit Florida or the entire south for that matter.
Hoke has plenty of ties to the midwest himself. Keeping the Florida line would be great as well, and Shannon runs a 4-3 if I'm not mistaken, something we will odds are run this year.
Yes please, I would like to go back to the 4-3. I think Shannon would be the perfect hire, he has fielded some great defenses especially when he was a DC.
why would we lose Florida as a recriuting ground if we hire Shannon? I would think the opposite.
I do not want Wannstedt anywhere near a team I like. As if his work with the Bears wasn't enough, he upped it with the Dolphins. He had a few good years as Jimmy Johnson's sidekick, let's leave it at that.
He'd another GERG to me.
This is probably good news.
I'd also like Glen Steele as the d-line coach and Jarrett Irons as LB coach.
weird mine's Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration.
"Soo, uhhh... what line of work you in, Bob?"
Renes > Steele
pad level muthafuckas
I'd rather have Steve Morrison as LB coach. He was DC at Western and current LB coach with Ron English.
To be honest, the Bears DBs are easily the weak part of the defense (although he seems to have Danieal Manning playing like less of a moron this year when he plays in the secondary, which is an accomplishment), and the Texans secondary has been getting strafed for years. Tack on that he apparently isn't interested in recruiting, and it's probably for the better that he remain where he is, I think we've all had enough of "NFL defensive coach whose NFL track record wasn't actually that good" for the rest of our lives after the last two years.
Is it that 2 Hokes are bettter than 1?
Or is it that a Hoke in the hand is worth 2 in the bush? I always get those confused.
No Charlie Weiss under any circumstances.
I am not liking the DC options people have mentioned so far. Brady Hoke will probably be defacto DC. Either we get a puppet DC or hire an up and comer, possibly from the FCS (formerly Division 1-A). Anyone obvious from there?? Any assistance on identifying good 1-AA D heads would be appreciated.
