Nice, glad to get a WR. Hope we can still get a wide-out though.
Peppers at 10, which seems low.
Nice, glad to get a WR. Hope we can still get a wide-out though.
Holloway is a slot WR all the way. With the few schollies we have left, slot WR should be the last thing we should be even considering. We still need another OL, DT, LB, S, and outside WR. I really would prefer to get a true outside WR (Lucien or Flowers) instead of another slot. I thought Justice Hayes was our slot WR for the recruiting class? No offense to Holloway, but we have other needs that need to be addressed.
But prepare to be blasted by the rest of the board. That's what happened the last time he said he was going to commit
Hayes maybe a RB now?
I don't even think we will take his commit unless some of the other commitments bail.
..But I don't think he is one of the silent commits. It doesn't sound very silent for him to say "I will commit." Maybe Tom can verify/deny this
Let's wait and see if he gets his test scores up, otherwise, it looks like he won't qualify. The article said that he just retook his ACT on Dec. 4, so the results probably aren't back yet. If all comes back good it looks like he'll be a descent pickup, a little small but he must be pretty athletic.
Hooray. Another slot receiver.
Holloway has wanted to commit for a while.. I think the coaches finally gave him the go-ahead there. Frey visited him recently.
is he the one that is Crawfords cousin? IF so, this may keep him here. If not, I am sorry.
IN addition, he could also see time at corner. A position that you can never have too many bodies. Remember a year ago when we thought we had too many?
I agree, being Dallas's cousin can help. I think an issue is that we have some possible pure DB's still out there, if he can be flexible great.
I guess I don't see why recruiting this guy makes any sense? We have plenty of slot receivers.
And even if he could play corner, wouldn't it make more sense to find a true corner instead of trying to shoehorn someone into that position?
in high school a athlete of his caliber probably played both sides of the ball..they get projected at the next level by recruiting services etc..Just because he is being projected as a slot wr, doesnt mean he has never played any time at CB.
I mean im sure the coaching staff wants the same positions in this class some of us want, but they also cant strong arm anybody into a committment. Im not excited about this news, since I would love to see them land Ronnie Lott and Warren Sapp to close out this class also but Im not disappointed either. I still think with as good as Roundtree & Co is, this offense doesnt have that explosive playmaker from any WR (slot specific) position yet. Im talking turning a 2 yard route into a 30+ yard play (ie: Darius Reynaud, Jock Saunders, Tavon Austin, Percy & Florida crew). We still havent seen the slot motioned into the backfield for hand offs yet. So maybe he can? IDK.. Kind of confusing on this board with "we should recruit kids that want to come to UM", and this kid obviously does but he isnt what we want
Isn't Justice Hayes exactly what you just mentioned. A guy who is explosive and can motion into the backfield to play RB from the slot position. Sounds to me like he is that guy to the tee.
We can't take everyone who wants to come to UM. Scholarships are at a premium.
It just doesn't make sense that we're taking someone who doesn't "project better" at corner. If that was Holloway's best position, recruiting sites would be considering him for that.
Well this will be interesting if he is waiting till jan 15.. Hopefully RR will still be here, or he prob won't be coming to michigan. And if his grades are in line.. hopefully
To get those test scores way way up to get past newu admissions. Until then, any intentions to commit are irrelevant.
You're not going to see RR spending a lot of cachet points on a borderline slot. Nor should he.
We can always use players with good hands.
I don't understand this unless he can play DT
I don't understand everyones thought that we need another DT in this class? I thought it was clear the coaches viewed Chris Rock as a DT at the next level. That's one freshmen to develop behind senior Mike Martin, sophomore Quinton Washington, and redshirt freshmen Richard Ash and the big Talbott kid. Something I am missing here? Unless of corse we bring in a 4-3 guy in which case it would be nice to have more depth. But also if we move to the 4-3 I would assume RVB moves back inside, or is this way off base?
Rock is too small to play NT and would project more as a SDE in the current 3-3-5 alignment
Are you satisfied with that little depth? You probably shouldn't be. We're losing Greg Banks, Renaldo Sagesse, and Adam Patterson (and we'll lose Martin and Van Bergen next year), and so far this class we're replacing those three with . . . Chris Rock.
i was hoping he was being sarcastic
Nice to get another wide receiver! I really just wanted to post from my new phone!
Should work our real nice against Wisconsin and OSU.
At least he will decommit when Harbaugh gets the job, and we begin recruiting real football players again. Good bye Dickrod!!
You caught me in the negging you and commenting trap, but only because I wanted to ask, is this really fun for you or something?
I mean, what is not happening in your life where this is solid entertainment?
Haha, you're on a roll. That's the second post in a row I've +1'd you on.
Let's set the over/under at 4'8"
I'll take the under.
Damn bud, trolling on Christmas. I am going to +1 you out of sympathy. May next year be more kind to you.
Can someone go over the rules for (BellBlue) he seems to be really green!
I have no idea whether Prince Holloway can be a credible threat at the next level. But Rodriguez has taken two guys for the slot in each of his two most recent recruiting classes so it should not, perhaps, be a surprise that he's doing so again.
As for "positions of need" well, sure, on the face of it slot isn't a priority. On the other hand I think RichRod has some idea of what he's doing, not least on the offensive side of the ball.
Personally I'd still like to sign a QB since we're only a couple of injuries away from that becoming a super-high risk position.
But perhaps we should all wait until Holloway actually commits? Then again, where would be the fun in that?
Still, if he becomes a Wolverine then good luck to him.
I'm not sure I understand the " were just a few injuries away from QB being a super high-risk position" argument. I can't think of a school in the country that isn't "a few injuries away from being screwed" at QB. Hell, most NFL teams are one injury away from being screwed. I'd like to see a QB in this class as much as the next guy, but I don't think it's a big deal if we don't get one this year. It's probably pretty hard to get quality guys to come here when they look at our depth chart.
Agree on it possibly playing a factor with QB's. Denard still has two years. Forcier, a solid back up, has two more years and then you've a stud recruit in Gardner who has 3 and if the medical redshirt comes through, 4 years.
a team has 5 QBs every team is a few injuries away from having issues. If that happens, not much you can do about that.
He's not one of the two silent commits. He's been open about wanting to commit to Michigan for awhile.
Get out of Dodge!
Given the abundance of receivers RR has recruited, how could it be that we still don't have a burner? That's on him. Man cannot live by ninjas alone.
my name is Ja'ron Stokes, Daryl Stonum, DJ Williamson, Martavious Odoms.
Dude, "burner" doesn't just mean "runs fast." I wasn't aware that any of the players you name has turned into a consistently scary wide-out. Two of the four you mention hardly even see the field. Odoms is a slot. Stonum has had some impressive moments, and maybe he'll become The Guy during his final year. Maybe Hemingway will become faster and healthier.
So far, though, we haven't fielded the next Edwards, Manningham, or Terrell. No consistent home-run hitters. We've fielded many talented but inconsistent ninjas and possession-receivers. Seems odd, given that M is (or was) Wideout U.
Well considering Roundtree is one big game away, i believe 118 yards from being michigans 4th ever soph WR to have 1000 yards in a season, id say he is up there.
The only other 3 are Des howard, braylon, and streets
Could be. Hopefully. But players get judged, in the end, on how they do in the Big Games against the best teams. Our receivers didn't exactly burn up the field against Wisky and OSU.
Stonum did whatever he wanted to do in the 2nd half against Wiscy. And no, those were not prevent D's. He was also wide open on several go routes in the first half, but DR missed. And that happened frequently - DR's touch improved dramatically over the season, but deep balls were a problem all year.
If you thought any top flight WR's were going to appear under Threet/Sheridan in '08, you need to think about that again. True freshman Tate did well enough, but he was a true freshman with a poor OL.
We haven't found any once in a generation WR's?!!!!!!!11! UNACCEPTABLE
The halftime shows are going to be awesome!
Wow, next everyone will start complaining that we have too many DB's commiting. I think our coaching staff is smart enough to know who they should and shouldn't extend an offer to. Let them do their job.
...anyone who wants to commit to play for Michigan better make up their mind very soon.
It will be excellent to have a Prince to go with the Countess. The MSM will have a lot of fun with it. Hopefully, they will get distracted from their usual, lazy "RR hot seat" columns and sensationalist, anti-UM headlines.
It'd be a lot cooler if he did.
we don't have a WR in this class yet,so this commit is welcomed.Hayes was recuirted as a athlete as we all know.
does he tackle or shed blocks or make plays on defense??? I will gladly take him if he can do 1 of the 3.
We can always pickup another slot guy next year. I think one pickup in Hayes is enought this year.
Great news. Recruiting class is rounding out nicely.
