Pretty solid hype video
That was one depressing ass hype video.
As I was watching it, I thought, well, skip the first minute and maybe it'll be pretty good. Then it was, skip the first two minutes, then Billy Bob and Rocky started talking and I figured you could skip the first three minutes. Basically, what that video shows is that Smith and Green each had one good run last year. I give that video a thumbs down.
I looked up the word "hype" in the dictionary just to be sure I wasn't missing something. The first definition is, "to stimulate, excite or agitate." The music didn't really stimulate or excite me. Some of the clips were good, but there were too many negatives to get excited about the coming season (OSU followed by the PSU and MSU games.) Next I looked up agitate. One of it's definitions is "perturb." So in the sense that this video greatly perturbed me, I'm willing to concede that it's one solid hype video.
That says "hype" or "pump up."
How do we know that was the intent of the video? Just because the OP wrote it?
I'm not responding to the creator of this video. I'm responding to the OP.
Or Billy Bob Thorton. Not the best I've seen.
he edits these videos really well. But at the same time, starting with the OSU thing sucked. Just exemplifies that he didn't have a lot of material to work with from last year. . .
This is produced by Luke on here. I am subscribed to him as his stuff is pretty solid. If you watched that and didn't walk away from it saying "F' Yea! Let's get this season started", you may want to look into the possibility that you may just need to keep the tv off for the next year and take a break from Michigan athletics.
The production of it was very good, just poor selections and voice over. It was definitely not "hype" though.
Even the best sometimes put out a crappy product. It doesn't mean he sucks, just this particular video.
I think it relates perfectly to the fan base right now. I being one of them. I still think Hoke is the wrong selection and these last couple seasons proved it. But last year wasn't all horribleness. Those kids did go out there and try their best. Last season isn't always indicative of what this season will be. It's a video of hope that things will change. Even for the most 'down on the team' fan, it should get you pumped for this season to start.
Hope never made things better, hope never creates change. It is a message to the players that they can be better but it has to come from within themselvers. They have to dig down deep and find that passion they used to have and what their teammates from yesteryear had.
His voice overs are usually a little shaky. Not sure why, but they just seems to not mix well with the soundtrack that he has going on.
The OP put that...the video title says nothing about "HYPE" so really everyone needs to relax on one word that the creator of the video NEVER used.
Here's the other video he produced for this season.
I'm just not feeling it. The first five minutes of this one was even more depressing than the first one. The last 45 seconds or so were okay, I guess. I only counted five positive plays for Michigan in that whole video.
Where's the hype?
it is supposed to be all about the speeches. The better speech wins right?
I think i'll pass on the one saying "Why Do We Fall.?" I can throw some acid in my eyes and it will be less painful.
Too much dwelling on failure is as bad as ignoring failure. When there is failure it has to be accepted and owned before overcoming it, but the point doesn't need to be belabored.
That is the worst HYPE video I've ever seen unless your Ohio, Michigan State or Penn State-Delete
don't show me shit from two or four or six or more years ago
how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can be hit and keep on moving forward. About how much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. And that's what the video is about.
The video is about reminding the team where they were and why they were there. No sugar coating it. Then the the video transitions into some sage advice over video depicting Michigan teams from the past but also from last year. The theme of those clips is about success, they're about overcoming adversity, they are reminding the players that while they truly did suck last year they also had brilliant moments and the future is theirs to grab.
Now if you didn't get that, if you don't understand it, then you should take the advice from the earlier writer that suggested you turn off your TV and not come back until after the season.
Not so much hype. But a lot of reality.
This program needs to confront reality. And fight back.
Dig it.
I have but one point to give.
Personally used to be all about hype videos... Now there are only certain ones that really excite me... Luke's videos seem to be just about the same thing over and over: same clips (I know there isn't much to choose from), same types of background music (Hans Zimmer/classical), same format (depressing clips followed by clips showing bright potential), etc. I really do admire his effort and editing abilities, but his hype videos seem really monotonous at points.
...don't watch? Just a thought...I could be way off though.
Because we all should have known prior to actually watching them. You choose some strange things to defend.
I'm SHOCKED by some of the comments. What the fuck did you guys expect? We've be AWFUL (by our standards) since 2008 when Lloyd Carr left except for one year.
Guys...that was SIX YEARS AGO!
What highlights did you want to make it hype?
The only thing we have going for us is our history and the promise of our future. There has been nothing outside of ONE year to pull from.
I thought this was one of Luke's BEST videos. He got the depressing stuff in to set the tone, he brought in the history to bring us back to our roots and then gave us the few recent highlights that we have.
This isn't supposed to be some intro video with RAWK behind it and a bunch of big hits, fumbles, INTs, and stiff arms...if we had a bunch of those, we probably wouldn't have been 7-6 last year. When you go undefeated you get shit like Woodson climbing to the sky to take away a ball that the opposing QB was trying to put into the stands. We didn't go undefeated.
That thing was awesome, I hope every player sees it because it gives perspective and then gives you that "TIME TO GO TO WORK" feeling that every player needs to have.
They haven't accomplished shit on the field...what the hell do they need to celebrate from previous years outside of the OSU/Sugar Bowl win? I wouldn't want them celebrating anything because they haven't done anything.
This was perfect, great job Luke. Maybe we can play like we all want MICHIGAN to play and then next year's video can be RAWK and big hits and big plays and victory celebrations. In the meantime, this was spot on because it's exactly where we are, it's where we've been and it's where we're trying to go.
Let's go to work.
That's my hope for this year leading into 2915. Give me a B1G Championship, no excuses.
I hope my great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grand kids enjoy it.
With my wealth, and the extreme advances in technology, it's not crazy to think I won't live to be like [1067] years old.
Very slick, professional editing. Nice work.
I don't know if I'd call it hype video as much as a period piece. It captures the mood of the fanbase right now: highly frustrated, still hopeful, still proud of who we are.
is directed more at the players than the fans. Definitely the message of the video was directed at those that can change the environment. The fans can't do that, we're only observers.
About this team and where it is...I mean it's titled something like "Team 135: Remember Who You Are."
If the OP doesn't call it a hype video, I don't think anyone reads that title and assumes they're going to be pumped up by watching it.
For me, I was trying to remember where "remember who you are" came from. I remembered that "why do we fall" is from the 1st Batman, but this one had me. It's the Lion King, which is odd, but whatever.
Nonethless...neither title for neither video makes me think oh this is going to be a highlight video!
I'm sure Luke could do that if he wanted, but again, what highlights is he going to pull? Even on of the highlights that he used in this was Countess running down the sidelines doing nothing else when we were up 4 touchdowns on Minnesota. That's a positive play, but it doesn't get me hype.
Hype comings from big moments in big games. If he made one and it was all EMU, WMU, Ohio, Deleware St., and Minnesota...people wouldn't be hype. That's why all this bitching is so stupid. Think about that for a second...even if we did have a bunch of sweet plays from those cupcake games, would that make you more excited over an average play in a big moment?
No. The Henne to Manningham is a routine throw and catch...it's hype because it won the game vs. a kind of B1G rival! Neither Desmond or Woodson's punt returns were THAT great...put those against a MAC school in the first game. We don't even remember them.
It's Ohio State and the fact that those two plays literally won two Heisman Trophies and BOTH were against our biggest rival.
You don't really have too many outstanding plays that stand alone regardless of team or situation. Woodson's MSU INT, various Denard plays, Braylonfest, Manningham/Arrington vs. Florida, UTL 1, UTL 2...those all stand alone. I suppose you can say the Clark hit on Miller or a Funchess hurdle or Devin @ Minnesota scramble and launch can go in a tier below because they're "cool."
But I guess we need more Desmond Morgan INT vs. UConn highlights to make people happy. Cue up that big stop to win the game vs. Akron. Let's get fired up!
they get the fact that winning is tough and wins aren't handed out like candy canes at a Christmas party. excellent video.
