Premium Seat Exchange

One of the mantras of the premium seating section has been "don't sell your seats". Basically, you don't want to irritate those who have spent a lot of money on their seats by having opposing fans spoil the experience.

Obviously, it is sometimes not possible to go to games as circumstances arise and the athletic department looks like they've come up with a creative solution to bypass StubHub:

We are building an online forum where all football premium seat holders can submit or donate their individual game tickets to the Premium Seat Exchange.  These tickets can only be purchased by other premium seat holders. Access to the exchange program is exclusive to premium seat holders to ensure that we protect your game day experience. Access is granted through your ticket account and the price of all tickets will be determined by the face value ticket price ($75 or $95 for the 2012 season). If your tickets are purchased, you will receive these funds.

Interesting idea and it seems that it would be a good idea to make friends with someone with premium seats so they can buy, at face value, club seats for you!

As a season ticket holder I love this idea, I'm always trying to buy my friends tickets from the ticket office before the season starts. This should help to get them the games they want.

Does this really help the problem?  People aren't bothered by EMU fans buying those games.  This program won't stop the ticket holder who is looking to make triple the face value on a big ticket game.

Right?  Or am I understanding this wrong?

My only concern is that you have to sell them at face value ($75-95).  My concern is that people won't sell them there because the price is so low.  I would prefer the option to sell for whatever we want.  I actually own two seats in the club, but would want to buy some additonal seats and I will pay more to get the opportunity.

I own 2 club seats and will continue to seek out alternative markets to sell the games we cannot attend. Sure the annual donation per seat allows a great game day experience and we are excited to be a part of it. But to have the athletic department deny the ability to participate in a free market is a joke.

Why would I ever sell tickets at face when they pull 3-5 times that consistently?

Dave Brandon is a capitalist and so are his season ticket holders.

If you know in advance that you can't use the tickets (or don't want to go for some crazy reason), you can donate the tickets to a charitable organization. This allows you to deduct the ticket price and a portion of your seat donation fee from your taxes. Of course, you'd want to clear this through your accountant...

If you don't mind clarifying further, would the ticket price be a deductible donation? The athletic department includes the PSD as a portion of the ticket price - are you saying that you cannot include that portion? (To some degree, it doesn't matter as for individuals, 80% of the PSD is deductible.)

You have to sell on other sites, which don't get as many eyes as stubhub and therefore not nearly as efficient of a market.

I had premium tickets (West side chair back) last year. It was the quickest way for me to get season tickets. I had been on the waiting list for 3-4 years and I had also purchased the All In package two years in a row. I live in Ohio and I can only make it to 3 or 4 games a year. Stubhub blocked the WSCB seats from being sold on their website so I was out of luck. Between the Donation and the Ticket cost I shelled out a lot of money for those seats. I have no problem with the cost however I do have a problem with UofM not wanting me to sell the tickets to anyone. I did sell my Nebraska seats for a little profit but that's not why I was in it. I bought them to attend the games. I gave games away to friends who are Michigan Fans, and I ate a few as well.

I also did not care for the section I was sitting in. I had numerous people tell me durring the OSU game that I needed to sit down. The whole stadium was standing. I stood until I had an usher tell me I needed to sit. The lady behind me told me that she paid A Lot of money for her tickets, and that her daughter was in the band. She was older (Maybe in her 60's) but not old enough that she couldn't stand. I ended up leaving my seats to go stand by the indoor seats entrance where we could be as loud as we wanted to be,

I did not re-purchase those tickets this year. I will only be able to attend 1-2 games this year with my work travel schedule. I will buy them on Stub Hub or scalp them at the game. One day when my kids are older I might look into the season tickets again but not now!

my folks often obtain tickets for friends of mine or theirs who want to attend individual games from other season ticket holders, and nobody ever pays anything other than face. so it's nice to have a way to do this that isn't dependent on having a friend with extra tickets. they should extend the idea, though, so that there's also an exchange to which all season ticket holders have access.
