Predictions for Mich/NW bball
Michigan returns home tonight against Northwestern 630 BTN. This is the 2nd time for Northwestern and will have Reggie Hearn this time. Very likely Jordan Morgan will miss this game tonight. So who starts Mitch or Jon? I say Mitch but they may start Jon to bring Mitch in off the bench for the spark. I hope we push the tempo in this game and get out with a win so its on to Indiana. Be close early on but will pull way get a home win tonight.
Michigan 72
Northwestern 57

I would like to see Morgan sit this one out so he is healthier for Saturday night (if he plays).
Good guys by 14 due to us looking ahead a bit.

by 50 I'll count it as a loss.
January 30th, 2013 at 9:10 AM ^
Well that seems a tad extreme.

76-58 Michigan
January 30th, 2013 at 8:52 AM ^
Michigan starts off hot and doesn't let up off the gas all game.
A very satisfying 83-65

No overtime.

simply because you're the MGoVideo guy. Know this - every time you post I will upvote you because without you I would be stuck with the blurry-ass TCS highlights of the games.

My dad used to work in Welch Hall right across the street from that huge penis.
January 30th, 2013 at 10:28 AM ^
I've never heard of Welch Hall.

Did you ever go bowling in the basement of the Union? Don't know why they ripped out the alley and the arcade, but it was awesome while it lasted.
January 30th, 2013 at 8:55 AM ^
Finally this thread was posted the day of the actual game and not three months prior like they have been lately. See how easy it is?
I like M to win by 17.
January 30th, 2013 at 9:03 AM ^
Second half adjustments gives Michigan the game. We get to see how focused the team is on each game at a time.
January 30th, 2013 at 9:11 AM ^
Caught looking ahead and start slow, only up four at half. I'll say 73-59, pulling away in the final ten minutes.
January 30th, 2013 at 9:15 AM ^
Blake McLimans will get a chance to play and will record a basket.
January 30th, 2013 at 10:39 AM ^
Eso Akunne will come in with enough time to jack up two 3s, miss both and piss everyone else on the floor off.
January 30th, 2013 at 9:18 AM ^
Goin to the game tonight for my birthday. First time at the Crisler Center. Go blue
Michigan: 82
NW: 64

You'll be amazed at how well the building has held up over the last 30 years.

Upvoted for waiting until day of game.
January 30th, 2013 at 9:34 AM ^
I have done the same.
January 30th, 2013 at 9:23 AM ^
handily, 88-52
January 30th, 2013 at 9:23 AM ^
Jon does a pretty nice job providing a spark himself. I say start Mitch.
January 30th, 2013 at 9:25 AM ^
UM wins 73-57 in a ho-hum routine win before Basketball Armageddon.
January 30th, 2013 at 9:31 AM ^
Prediction 1: because this game is at a stupid time I will still be at work an not watch it
Prediction 2: m by 13 with more pt for stars than I would like before this weekends game (it's hard to pick when someone mopped the floor with Illinois and lost to Nebraska)

GRIII destroys something.
January 30th, 2013 at 10:12 AM ^
Game feels a little closer than fans would like with Indiana this weekend. I'll say 77-65. I'm bad at these predictions.
January 30th, 2013 at 10:24 AM ^
A big man will switch on a ball screen onto Trey and he will shake and bake him and take a terrible step-back 19-footer.
BOOM EEYORE'D
January 30th, 2013 at 10:25 AM ^
Perhaps looking forward to the showdown in Bloomington will make this a closer than expected win.
January 30th, 2013 at 10:25 AM ^
gets up big early in the second half and backups get a solid chunk of time tonight to give the starters some rest for Saturday.
Pain for Northwestern

PAIN!

Blouses.

This game cannot be overlooked. Northwestern is not Penn State. However, we should blow them out. I'm thinking 82-64
January 30th, 2013 at 10:52 AM ^
who is faked out of his jock.
Mitch McGary will dive for a loose ball.
No one will have a worse hair cut and acne than John Shurna.
The game will be over by 9:00.
January 30th, 2013 at 11:01 AM ^
Shurna is now playing overseas somewhere, but yeah he probably still has one of the worst haircuts around (and the acne of a 13-year old to boot).
In his absence, Kale Abrahamson has taken over Shurna's role of weird-looking white guy with a cringe-inducing shot and a $4 haircut.

Michigan 79-28
January 30th, 2013 at 10:54 AM ^
70-42. Michigan holds serve.
January 30th, 2013 at 10:57 AM ^
Michigan 78 - 57 and Mitch gets his first start. Horford first off the bench with Max getting 6 - 10 minutes.
January 30th, 2013 at 10:59 AM ^
The camera will focus on Jordan Morgan sitting on the bench 7 times. Bkfinest it!
January 30th, 2013 at 11:16 AM ^
73-59
Please don't look ahead. Maybe we get a nebraskaesque performance where we learn a free lesson and get the win anyway
January 30th, 2013 at 11:17 AM ^
Northwestern can't be overlooked, but against the #1 team in basketball, at Crisler? If we put together at least a decent game, we can still beat them by 10-15. Just don't get caught looking ahead to Saturday.
81-60 Blue
January 30th, 2013 at 11:22 AM ^
Gets the win. The #1 team isn't going to come out flat in a game against an inferior opponent.
My guy to have a big game tonight is GR3.
Michigan wins 75-59

Good Guys-78

Michigan
January 30th, 2013 at 12:08 PM ^
71 to 55. Michigan.
January 30th, 2013 at 12:18 PM ^
We come out to a very slow start, we're unfocused and thinking about our No. 1 ranking and Indiana this weekend. Wildcats see an opportunity to strike, and I think they keep it close in the first half. Michigan hits the locker room with a lead of 6 before breaking the game open midway through the 2nd.
83-70
January 30th, 2013 at 12:21 PM ^
Michigan- 81
Northwestern- 63
January 30th, 2013 at 12:26 PM ^
First, some quick comparison stats to help everyone:
Offensive Stat Comparison
Northwestern | Michigan
Points/Game | 64.2 | 77.4 |
Avg Score Margin | 2.8 | 18.3 |
Assists/Game | 15.1 | 15.4 |
Effective FG % | 49.00% | 57.70% |
Turnover % | 15.10% | 13.20% |
Defensive Stat Comparison
Northwestern | Michigan
Opp Points/Game | 61.5 | 59.1 |
Opp Effective FG % | 46.60% | 46.40% |
Def Rebounds/Gm | 21.5 | 24.8 |
Blocks/Game | 3.4 | 2.8 |
Steals/Game | 6 | 5.7 |
This wouould be the sort of game Michigan should be able to win by a very comfortable margin. Conservatively, I would suspect something in the 80-60 range given the numbers above and Michigan's overall performance of late. Massey is going with a 96% win likelihood for Michigan actually.
January 30th, 2013 at 1:09 PM ^
61.5 to 59.1. Man, I hope NW can't muddy the game that much.
January 30th, 2013 at 12:31 PM ^
by actually shooting hot from 3 briefly and annoying all of us, before remembering that they are Northwestern at halftime at which time they will proceed to be outscored by 20+ in the 2nd half
