Predictions for Mich/NC State bball

Submitted by goblue85 on

Tommorrow night at 730pm ESPN.  Michigan will take on NC State in Big Ten/ACC Challenge at Crisler.  They will also be hanging the Big Ten banner as well.  I expect a sellout tomm night.  I like how this team is playing and expect us to protect homecourt.  I like McGary coming out of New York and Hardaway is a different player from last year.  Burke will be fine as we go.

I go to NC State now for graduate school, and I am glad I came here at the right time, when their basketball team just got really good. They are just like us with 2 studs and 3 phenomenal freshman. We have Burke and Hardaway alongside McGary, Robinson, Stauskas. They have Brown and Leslie, alongside Purvis, Warren, and Lewis. They also have Wood, who is a bigger and better Stauskas and rarely mises. They also have Howell who is a bigger and better Morgan, who is simply more dominant, he put 23 and 15 against UNC-Asheville, and was the difference in that game. So he can be seen as a real threat also.

I think we win a close game 81-80, simply because we have home court advantage. I think they played poorly against Oklahoma State, because their two key big men Leslie and Howell got into early foul trouble, and only played 17 and 16 mins respectively that game...they usually play double that. UNC-Asheville is no walk over team, they gave Syracuse lots of trouble last year in the first round of the NCAA tournament, and Syracuse had to come back after hafltime and barely beat them in the end. I think we are pretty evenly matched, but I don't think people should look at them as a walk over team, just because of the last two games. They have a lot of talent, team chemistry is an issue according to one of my friends who is a manager on the team. I went to 1 game when they played Miami (OH) and they looked great...

As always, GO BLUE!!

I checked the team's websites and came up with the following:

Stauskas     6' 6"  190 lbs

Wood           6' 6"   169 lbs (sounds light....but that's what it says)

Morgan        6' 8"   250 lbs

Howell         6' 8"   257 lbs

Those numbers look pretty close to me.  I realize that Howell has had a good start to the year but he's REALLY foul prone and tends to make bad decisions during the game.  I think that Morgan can hold his own here.  Michigan can roll more effective big men on the floor so Howell's foul trouble could be the key to the game.

He stays in foul trouble, and is pretty passionate (that sounds better than "emotional", right?). Wood (very good spot up shooter) and Leslie should be Michigan's main concerns, with Warren (SF, three point range) and Purvis (early on many said his game reminds them of Wade's. "Reminds"...) being the heralded freshmen.

Their frosh PG is very slight but is scrappy and has good vision. Thing about NC State lately (coming from a UNC basketball fan for years) is that they've become increasingly athletic (especially after they moved on from Lowe and Atsur at pg), but they haven't been terribly disciplined. CJ Leslie was prone to hunting for his shot outside of the offense, and he's a very athletic slasher type. Still slight frame though.

Gottfried had a reputation as a very solid recruiter but average coach and, by the looks of things, it's spot on. I still expect Michigan to win (by 12 points or so), but if it turns into an up and down game, that would increase State's chances.

will give us their best game tomorrow night but seeing as it is in Crisler I give UM the advantage with a 76-68 game. I think it will be closer than expected. Hope I'm wrong
