Prediction: Who to be first RichRod Wolverine to truly make it in the NFL?
I wonder, who will be the first of our players who make it and do well in the NFL, of the players Rodriguez recruited and not Carr. Carr's Wolverines had a tremendous run, especially at the wr position.
Graham, Warren, Molk, and to a minor extent, Minor (no pun intended), all will fall under Carr....
So... who will be the first from the Rodriguez pool to continue our stellar track record of players to make it and thrive in the NFL ?
My prediction is... DT William Campbell
and think probably a few of our defensive linemen could turn out to be beasts, but my dark horse pick is Tay Odoms. Although I'm hopeful to confirm my similarly high opinion of Roundtree this fall.
He will be the next Jared Allen, he just needs to start growing some awesome facial hair. I can see Craig Roh after 4 years of Barwis being a beast.
maybe grow a mullet as well
George Morales.
This is funny. You don't deserve the negbang.
I vote Roh
I vote Ricky Barnum.
Probably Roh of the RR recruits, but I'd say Graham fell under RR from a player development standpoint. He really turned into a beast under him.
I was going to say exactly that.
I'd also give RR a lot of the credit for Minor emerging, since he had more intermittent performance under Carr.
No to Graham.... he doesn't count... because we don't know if Rodriguez would have recruited him, or even landed him.
but if this is your line, Minor would fall under Carr in a major respect. So either there was a pun intended, or...well, I'm going to go with pun intended.
That he committed a Minor foul?
(That was bad. It was really, really bad. But I had to do it. It was just hanging out there like a curve ball on the outside corner of the plate.)
I think it is fair to say that Rich Rod would've recruited the 15th best player in the nation. One that went to a Michigan-friendly high school.
And if you mention Lawrence Thomas, you're an idiot.
Mike Martin
Mike Martin was recruited by Lloyd and committed to Lloyd.
Mike Martin committed to Michigan first and foremost. Second, he decided to stay on and RR kept recruiting him so he is therefore a RR recruit; the coaches on signing day were really excited about him.
Even if you don't buy that much, Martin received absolutely NO coaching from Lloyd Carr, who therefore would not have any hand in his development as a player and potential future in the NFL.
Perhaps you would rather comment on something substantive?
Still though, he never played for Lloyd and chances are very good that Rodriguez would have recruited him.
Roh, and depending on how they use Denard he could go as well (a la Percey Harvin); I think IF he moves around this year he could have a BREAKOUT year next year. Campbell . . . maybe. IMO he's a lil chunky (vs. mad-muscle that I was expecting 2 years under Barwis).
my runner up is a shocker.... Quinton Washington.
I can't tell if that's supposed to be serious.
How is that a shocker?
My GF said that it is not a shocker if you do it every time.
Roh's going to be one of those guys taken at the end of the first round by the Patriots or something. He'll get solid sacks/tfls his last two years and run a blazing 40 for a DE. He'll be one of those guys that quietly ends up a pro-bowler before most people know who he is.
He kind of reminds me of a young Drew Brees. Here's hoping he can turn into a matured Drew Brees.
Or Jeff Garcia.
I don't think Tate is gay.
OMG I'm just kidding!
In your face, Birkett.
WHO IS B*RK**T ???? He ceases to exist, so stop mentioning the name B*RK**T.
Starting with the '08 class? Mike Martin '09? Craig Roh
I guess those aren't original picks, but I like them both.
He may not be the first Wolverine to make it to the NFL under RR but I think that if he keeps progressing he will be a beast of an OT and has great NFL potential. Potential top 15 pick.
My bet...Patrick Omameh. He'll come out as a quick, smart, 300 pound beast of a tackle. First round selection to (consult crystal ball here) New England.
in that Omameh becomes a legit NFL draft prospect. That would mean great things for UM.
I still think that Lewan will end up getting drafted higher although in a later year.
Obviously, it is pretty out there to predict that a RS Freshman who is yet to see the field will be an NFL Draft prospect. But, that is what this thread is for... fun speculation.
This guy is going to shred up NFL defenses. My dark horse... DENARD
Justin Turner
Denard is a lock to get to the NFL. He won't likely make it there as a quarterback, but his speed and vision are too good to pass up.
With guys like Julian Edelman and Joshua Cribbs and to an extent Steve Breaston all making the jump from QB to shifty NFL return man/slot i think its almost guaranteed that Denard gets a shot in the NFL.
Will he stick? Who knows...but he'll get a shot
I don't really see how you can say Breaston made the jump from QB to WR/KR. That's what he played here at Michigan. Those other guys were QBs in college. I know he played QB in high school, but so does everyone.
High:
QB Tate Forcier
RB Fitzgerald Toussaint
WR Roy Roundtree
OL Taylor Lewon
OL Quinton Washington
CB Justin Turner
S Demar Dorsey
OLB/DE Craig "Death" Roh
NT/DT Big Will Campbell
Med to Low:
DE Anthony LaLota
TE Kevin Koger
RB Michael Shaw
Notice how most of these guys are Freshman or Sophomore! This team is going to be VERY good. Brandon, keep RR until at least 2012.
Well, RR's recruit should be Freshman or Sophomores. Doesn't make me any less excited though!
I'm with biabiakabatuka21. There's a lot there.
Does anyone have Coner's replacement on their list? If not, go with Jake Ryan, an undercover maniacal beast! Not limited to him, but think he will be a terror and an impact NFL player one day.
Mike Cox or Mike Martin.
Is running for governor of Michigan, and he's busy doing the Attorney General thing. No way he makes the NFL draft.
I don't know the definition of 'Make It,' but I think I'll go with Cameron Gordon. I've got a feeling about him.
considering he was heavily recruited by RichRod at WVU so he would have ended up here either way. But other than him, I think the most successful one from the first class (RichRod half) will be Patrick Omameh.
Carr might have been the one to recruit Molk, but Rich Rod is the one who will have coached him up.
My vote would be Nick Sheridan, as a very successful QB coach.

I think he'll be the first to the NFL, as a WR/KR.
I'm expecting a huge/breakout year here in 2010.
