play well to win.

Is the T A&M and Scar a conference game? And why are they playing it so early in the season?
August 28th, 2014 at 2:13 PM ^
Yeah they're both in the SEC. Auburn and Arkansas are also playing each other in their first game. SEC sometimes likes to do conference games as season openers or early in the season and then they play a cupcake in November.

The first Michigan game I ever saw was the season opener in 1982 . . . against Wisconsin.
August 28th, 2014 at 2:08 PM ^
I've been saving my Bell's Planet Series: Mars for tonight.
For some reason, I thought yesterday was Thursday and got all fired up right before I left work. I was disappointed to find out from my wife that it was Wednesday...
August 28th, 2014 at 2:09 PM ^
Wow that's a quality 6 PM game. Why the heck is it not at 8 PM? Strange.
August 28th, 2014 at 2:14 PM ^
Nfl preseason, maybe.
August 28th, 2014 at 2:34 PM ^
So they want to kick off before any other game and have everyone watching their shiny new network!
It's gross, they had a month of straight SEC on ESPN Classic, nothing else. That way they could put their countdown clock to the SEC Network on the ESPN Classic 24/7.
Now every promo on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU is for this game, which is automatically pushing the SEC Network.
Hopefully it dies down after a month, but I doubt it. They're getting their own College Gameday that is just SEC talk. Which is ironic because the current College Gameday is only SEC talk until a sexual assualt charge, Catfishing, or crab legs are involved.
August 28th, 2014 at 3:02 PM ^
Can you blame them though? Out of all the games listed, this is the only game with two Top 25 opponents. It's also the Post-Manziel/Post-Clowney era. I agree with the dying down part though. I think it will. Right now is just the "shiny new toy" effect.
August 28th, 2014 at 3:57 PM ^
They're pushing the biggest game of the day...
But they're the reason it's the biggest game of the day is what I'm saying. It directly/indirectly gave them every reason to push their new network by taking the biggest game of the day and putting it on the SEC Network and make it a random 6pm time so it's the only thing CFB fans will watch. It's the opener.
BTN kind of tried this when they put Michigan/MSU on BTN, I believe it was in their contract or something that they somehow got a big time game or something or another...I can't remember, but at the time, there was no reason for that game to be on BTN. Hell, there still isn't. But it certainly brought B1G fans to their network.

August 28th, 2014 at 2:23 PM ^
That is a long trip for the Knights to open up. Is the pirate still at WSU?
August 28th, 2014 at 2:24 PM ^
Will be a good game. We also play Washington State in a few years, i think...
August 28th, 2014 at 2:11 PM ^
I have a feeling the game this game is going to be painful to watch.
You never know though. Scar's weakness, based on my ten minutes of research, should be the secondary and if there is an offensive scheme that can take advantage of it the air raid would be it.

Who is replacing Johnathan Football? Is it the guy who passed out in the planters on campus?

But no, they found him passed out at whataburger like any self respecting Texan would have been after a night on the town.
/Texan.
I barely keep up with the aggies.

August 28th, 2014 at 3:17 PM ^
I wasn't sure what he meant. I couldn't figure out if there was a store or restaurant named planters or if it was a campus location I knew nothing about.
Boy, the aggie qbs are... different.
Wouldn't be surprised to find out an oklahoma resident carried him from the Whataburger to the planter.
August 28th, 2014 at 2:56 PM ^
when i read "Google image it" i processed "Google map it" and thought "man, what would be the odds that the Google map camera car drove by while he was in that planter"?
August 28th, 2014 at 3:29 PM ^
Well he was in there a long time.

One of many things I don't miss about Texas
August 28th, 2014 at 5:32 PM ^
If you like bread at least.
One of the things I do miss from Michigan is Whitecastle. Fast food wise.
I don't consider the pizza place that delivers deep dish pizzas fast food (left out the name on purpose).
It's impossible to find an actual deep dish pizza place where I live.
August 28th, 2014 at 8:07 PM ^
I had no idea there were places that didn't have whitecastle until a year ago, and my mind was blown
August 28th, 2014 at 2:26 PM ^
...he may want to get that checked out. Although the honey roasted kind are pretty damn good, they can certainly be addicting.
August 28th, 2014 at 2:12 PM ^
Ole Miss is 18th? Didnt realize it. ESSSSS EEEE SEEEE

Yeah, it's like conference Gerrymandering.
August 28th, 2014 at 2:15 PM ^
I'll be in Nashville tonight at Dudley (Vanderbilt Stadium) watching Temple take on the Commodores of Vanderbilt.
August 28th, 2014 at 3:56 PM ^
That is awesome. I think Temple may magically find a way to win. Possibly because I'm an idiot, but mostly because they have a good QB.
Edit: I'm definitely an idiot.

Great call. It was a massacre of SEC'ian proportions. I enjoyed it.

But who cares? I'm excited! College football is HERE! WHOOOOOOOOO!
(87.4% chance I fall asleep after work during the first game if I don't calm down...gotta pace myself!)
August 28th, 2014 at 2:29 PM ^
of the week.
Plus, they've got the time slot all to themselves! Think of the ratings.
August 28th, 2014 at 2:35 PM ^
We can all pretend we live on the west coast and watch it during breakfast.
August 28th, 2014 at 3:09 PM ^
How many of you Wolverines living in Cali, Oregon, and Washington are going to be waking up at 5:30AM for the kickoff? That's when you know you've gone too long without college football.
August 28th, 2014 at 2:43 PM ^
They're going up against College Gameday and the first one of the year...I'll definitely be flipping back and forth.
It'll be awesome to wake up to college football like they do on the west coach though.
They could easily play that game at noon EST and it not be late in Ireland...problem is, I bet both teams want to get back to the States ASAP so it doesn't affect their game/practice schedule the following week. If they leave by 3pm they should be back home before midnight which keeps them on track for week 2.

"want to get back to the States ASAP so it doesn't affect their class schedule or studies..."

Well done. I almost forgot, the NCAA is always watching.
August 28th, 2014 at 2:37 PM ^
Wow, would like to watch PSU vs. UCF, but no way in hell I'm getting up at 7:30am CST with family visiting to watch it. Hopefully wake up to catch the end and see UCF up big.
August 28th, 2014 at 2:42 PM ^
And there is no way, I'm waking up at 5:30.
August 28th, 2014 at 2:42 PM ^
Some pretty good games actually - GA v Clemson should be good. FSU v OK State should be good; surprised OK State is not ranked but I dont follow them closely. They quietly are putting together a lot of double digit win seasons and have a man as a coach. Will be interesting to see how Wiscy hangs with LSU - I am afraid for them with their losses on defense.
August 28th, 2014 at 3:17 PM ^
Also scouting ND against Rice.
