Potential soccer threads and a case for uniformity.

Submitted by itsbigcat on

Hey all. Friendly neighborhood MGOBREWER here. I've noticed there's quite a lot of interest in European soccer on here, particularly the Premier League and the UEFA competitions. My question to the community is this, would we like to have a weekend or Saturday and Sunday soccer thread on the weekends? When OT season opens back up, most competitions are in their back-half, are heating up, or are into their knockout stages. Soccer has grown into one of my favorite sports to watch, and along with College football, I try to watch as many league games as possible on the weekends.

I suppose my proposal would be (and I'd be more than happy to create these threads consistently) to post in the morning, and in the body of the post simply include the games, times, and television stations. The personal preference and perspective stuff can carry out in the comments. I don't remember who does the watching guides or the in-season nightly football threads, but the information shared there has been a boon to my sports-watching, and the comments and community shared in the thread have made keeping up with the games more fun.

If a resounding amount of you would like this to happen, then I'll start tomorrow with the FA CUP games. As well, if most of the responses here are "hell no" I'll simply continue on my way, get back to work, and keep counting down to beer-thirty.

Have a good Friday and, well, Go Blue.

You said you'd like a soccer thread as long as non-soccer fans don't show up and unnecessarily declare that they don't like soccer.

I'm sure that happens.  Kinda funny.

He responded to your semi-funny post by suggesting you beat the non-soccer crowd to the punch and just post in all of their non-soccer threads that you like soccer.

That would be ridiculous and a waste of time and would only irritate everyone if you were to actually do it.  That makes that suggestion kind of funny as well.

You made a funny.  Then he made a funny.

Then you got mad.

Hope this helped. Soccer is stupid.

Mine was kind of funny even though I wasn't trying. It came from the heart. His reply wasn't. Probably cuz he's a mouth breathing Gooners fan.

And I know funny. Big fan of funny things.

Did anyone see the "Zlat-trick" yesterday?  Ibra was credited with a goal on a free kick, where it dribbled into the goal after he hit the wall...rather pathetic.  His second goal was legit - a nice cross that he slotted home.  But the third one, well, I was laughing at him collapsing when he got fouled in the box...was a legit penalty, but his histrionics were a joke (still amusing though).  He then of course drilled the PK.

And yeah, I'm in favor of your proposal, OP.

Yeah, it's funny that he got credit for that first one, where Aguero's goal on Monday couldn't have been ruled an own goal quicker.  Man City gets treated like Michigan does by the media.  David Silva has been majesterial through his whole career and never been on an EPL team of the year?  laughable.

I do like the OP's proposal though.  I will be here every saturday and sunday morning!!

By "soccer" do you mean "not MLS" because, obv, one thing is not like the other.

And I have no rooting interest in EPL or UCL but do think it would be hilarious if Leicester both wins the UCL and simultaneously gets relegated.  Of course, I think Sevilla is going to butcher LC worse than Bayern/PSG did to Ars/Barca last week.

Perfect reason to remodel the site similar to eleven warriors. I'll probably get begged for that but their organization is great. Not just one clusterfuck and a board where you can't see the second page

Especially if Arsenal gets treated the way ESPN treats the SEC.

Aaaand...bonus points if we all have a tacit agreement to downvote to Bolivia anyone who shows up in the thread to state how much they don't like soccer and how it is such a giant waste of their PRECIOUS TIME to see a thread title about soccer and rather than take the millisecond of time required to read past the thread about soccer and ignore it.... they feel utterly compelled to take the 2-5 minutes of their PRECIOUS,  IMPORTANT TIME to click on the thread title and write a diatribe about how they HATE soccer sooooo much and how having threads about it on THEIR blog is a major inconvenience because of how IMPORTANT THEY are and how PRECIOUS THEIR TIME is...and that they hate soccer and don't see why anyone would like it.  Then....when someone politely points out that they could have just not clicked on it...they explain that....SOMETIMES what happens is it makes other thread titles that they feel are more important move farther down the list of titles (putting Internet back of hand to forehead for dramatic effect) and THIS is a big problem....for ME.  Soccer doesn't have as much GOALS SCORED so it is boring and sucks...nothing happens when you're not scoring a goal. Don't change the subject...we are not here to talk about how much of my PRECIOUS TIME I have wasted on writing this compared to how little time it takes to right click on the "more" link and open it in a new tab to see if I missed any thread titles...we are here to discuss why I hate soccer and why you should too AND how important I and MY TIME are! Because my Mom said I was important.  Why do you like soccer so much? I can't  keep arguing with you...there are windmills to joust and Dulcinea awaits!

Amirite?

I agree, I am not a baseball or hockey fan at all, but when there is a thread about those sports, I just don't go into them.  I would hope to be negged to death if I did that.  I used to be a soccer hater 10 years ago, now it's right under Michigan football as my favorite thing to watch.  Once I understood the sport and started playing in an indoor league, I haven't looked back.

But let's go further - I'd be OK with anyone coming to a soccer thread to whine about why there is a soccer thread to just get sent straight to Bolivia, pass go do not collect $200.

I'm not even a soccer fan so I wouldn't be participating in a Premier League thread but there's clearly a lot of people who are so weekly threads would be great for helping to strengthen the MGoCommunity.
