Potential grad transfers for Michigan football

Submitted by ThadMattasagoblin on

With the loss of the Miami tackle to UCLA, I was wondering if we were still in on any grad transfers. It can't hurt to add bullets to the chamber I guess unless they have character issues. We could use help at defensive line, the defensive backfield, and offensive line. Are we still actively pursuing Korrin Wiggins from Clemson? Maybe umbig11 can chime in here.

What I heard from someone who covers MSU sports (also an acquaintance) is that it has something to do with "new" standards on academics and other things in the department, a totally top-down initiative in this case an not the brainchild of the coaches. My understanding is that Peat didn't meet the "new" academic standard, but I couldn't tell you exactly what that standard is now.

If that's the case, you would think somebody would have informed Peat about it.

This would also close the one advantage MSU had in recruiting over Michigan (that Sparties always denied ever existed)  :  their ability to accept students with questionable academic standards that Michigan couldn't accept.

I'd prefer to not know. I can't recall one of these guys ever choosing to go blue. Maybe the better tactic is to be happy with the chance of being surprised.

I think the fact that we are not dependent on grad transfers is a good thing. Outside of Jake Rudock, I don't think these graduates transferring in have made much of an impact on our team and the team doesn't have any glaring holes IMO. True there will be some younger guys playing but they're very talented. And with the exception of the offensive line there's good depth at each position. Given Harbaugh's track record with putting players into the NFL, I'm guessing the reason more transfers aren't jumping at the opportunity to play here is this talent.

Transfers - especially Grad transfers - are often transferring because of roster squeezes and playing time. Our OL could use experience at any position. DL could use depth. We lost our candidate for OL and the DL from Clemson will likely seek a favorable roster.

The transfer season has concluded.
