Here's a video on youtube.

These are the defensive highlights since that's more than likely what side of the ball he'll be on in college. There is also an offensive video too where he plays TE.

On these kids early....he doesnt have ANY other offers, at least according to scout.

We'll see how that strategy pans out in the next few years...............great scouting, or just plain stupid?

This kid looks like a solid DE prospect. I have no clue what division he plays in, but he seems to get to the ball really well.

Im also loving the scouting by RichRod. We find sleepers in Carvin Johnson, Ray Vinopal, and Jake Ryan. I'm not saying this guy is going to be a total sleeper cause we haven't even ended the 2010 recruiting class and the rankings haven't came out yet. In the coming classes I'm sure the doubt in RichRods recruiting will simmer down a ton.

FWIW Allen Trieu on the Scout board said he will be a top 5-8 range player in Michigan and probable top 300 player Nationally, so at DE I'll take that any day. His defensive film was impressive, and apparently he is thrilled about the offer because he was not expecting it this early.

This is a textbook example of the problems inherent in evaluating high-school talent. He plays against weak competition, so his film is of limited value. But he is tall with a good frame and relatively fast and quick for his size. No way Michigan offers him without some kind of measure of his speed, probably from his coach or opposing coaches.

My guess is this is an anti-MSU move. In the past, UM probably could have waited to offer someone like this, someone unlikely to get national attention because of the inferior competition level. But MD has been very aggressive lately with in-state talent, so I take this as a good sign -- RR is not going to be complacent about that.

I wouldn't say his film is of limited value, I'd say his highlights are of limited value. (They kind of always are anyway.) Coaches breaking down film get a lot more than the highlight videos and they look for flaws and weaknesses as much as they look for big plays. Those'll show up just as glaringly against weaker competition as they do against the top teams.

what I really mean is there's not going to be any film of him going up against an FBS prospect on the other side of the line.

For somebody like Jake Ryan, playing in Ohio's top division, that film exists. It's easier to get a sense of his tools and skills relative to other known quantities. Nothing like that exists for this kid.

But your point is well taken -- I didn't mean to suggest his film is entirely useless.

We all realize that by referring to all of these players as sleepers we are assuming they end up being players right? Just want to make sure since it seems that every non-bluechip recruit we get is automatically referred to as a "sleeper".

Technically, given the definition of the word, referring to someone as "sleeper" must be done in past tense. Meaning we won't know if they are indeed a sleeper until they produce on the field.

Just sayin...

I think part of the strategy must be to try to lock down some early commitments so they can focus on closing strong with the big time recruits, since they tend to hold out longer. Last year and this year both, RR has closed strong. You don't want to lose a kid you like to Iowa because he likes that they were the first to offer. I trust that if they're offering early, they feel pretty good about him.

It is a good strategy for us at this current juncture. However, with a limited number of scholarships available and the need for at least 3-4 of them to be OL, I don't really understand an early offer to a player like Hollowell after we already had a commit from Greg Brown. I would be happier if the earlier offers were given to OL.

I remember all the talk on here was that Hankins would likely commit if offered at the camp he came to last spring/summer. People here seemed to be pretty high on Hankins until the offer didn't come.

Edit: found it. According to the Tuesday Recruitin' from March 31:

Despite the increased competition a Florida offer brings, I'd regard the above as extremely good news. Hankins has been rumored to be a Michigan fan and lean for a few months now, and if he's got the talent to reel in a Florida offer he's likely to pick one up from Michigan.

Plymouth is Division 1....My old hs played in that division(also austin white's division).. Not very strong football to be completely honest...I've never heard of him, and I usually know about the good players in the area, but who knows?

to say who is or was a sleeper until they play college football and prove themselves at that level. David Harris was a sleeper. Mike Hart was a sleeper. Vincent Smith if he stays injury-free will be a sleeper. Vinopal, Ryan, Johnson and the others we'll just have to wait and see.

Hey, he is from my hometown. Plymouth is part of the three high schools on one campus mega complex called PCEP(the park). There is also Salem and Canton on the same campus. They have one band for all three schools (that is obnoxiously good) but separate sports teams.

To be honest, the D-1 football in Michigan is not very competitive at all in relation to other football states, as someone pointed out earlier (sorry if anyone is offended). Canton regularly dominates their division and in all my time since going there they have had only 1 FBS level player (Devin Thomas I think his name was, went to JUCO and then MSU)

Still, the guy looked quite good on tape.

I think we need to take it REALLY slow for 2011 with the offers. We don't have many scholarships to give out, so I think we should be very selective with who we give them to. We should still recruit hard, but be picky as to who gets the offers. If August rolls around and some of our targets are looking elsewhere, we can get a little more generous. Until then, I say hold off.

They know that they will have limited schollie spots for '11 class. They offered him which obviously means that they think that he's more than good enough to earn an super early offer. Most of the offers for '11 class goes to elite players like LeMay, HaHa, Braxton Miller, etc.

for '10 class, Michigan offered Carvin Johnson in the spring when he was a JR in HS. They obviously liked him and he didn't commit until a few months ago. Just because a player gets an offer, doesn't mean that they're going to commit right away. It's a way to get your foot on the door so you stand a better chance of landing them against the big boys.

As a former Salem football player, I can tell you that our division is very weak. Yes, we get killed by Canton year in and year out, but that's not because Canton is so great as much as the rest of the teams are just meh. I don't think PCEP has produced any notable division 1 football talent in 942 years. I can't speak for this kid's abilities, but just let me say Canton wouldn't fare well against Ohio and Florida's weakest divisions.

Good motor, plays intense but really light for a DE (215 lbs). I think RR should be much more selective in the 2011 class though and focus on the highest priorities until we're out of the picture for them. Then we can move to plan B instead of starting with it.

I like the slow play technique and explosiveness, but I have a bit of a problem with all the arm tackles he makes.. I dont think hell be able to pull down many B10 Q's or RBs like that..
That being said, thats about the only concern I have about this, and thats just a tweak with some coaching. He looks like a potential beast.
