Post on Mitch Albom Website
Apparently Mitch Albom does not have a public e-mail. So, I went to his website. There were all of 2 topics and 5 total comments on his radio show portion of the site. Now there are 3 topics.
Notice, I was very nice to Mitch. As others have noted, when you contact a person and would like them to actually read what you wrote, pissing them off is not a good idea.
Here is the post:
Hi Mitch, Love Your Show!
I agree that a large percentage of bloggers don't provide a lot of value added.
But, some bloggers do a lot more than just cut and paste. Check out MGoBlog.com and I think you will see why the internet is gaining popularity.
Newspapers and radio shows just can't go into the depth of coverage that a blogger can (the paper would be hundreds of pages long). And, by using links to other sites, the blogger can provide an immediate source for the material so you know it is not just one person that has made stuff up.
BTW, MGoBlog is the most popular sports blog in the US (average visits per day is over 80,000 for the past year - total was 1.8 million in August). Brian spends 10-12 hours a day, seven days a week on his blog. It is his only job and his only means of making a living. He also has 2 degrees from U/M in Electrical Engineering.

Good post. Not to take anything away from it, I believe MgoBlog is the most popular college sports blog in the US. Still makes your point, though.

Didn't Brian also major in Computer Engineering? Doesn't take away from the OP's point of course.

He's never made up a story.
Is that in his definition of a reporter? Since he claims Brian is not one since he doesn't do interviews

I wish Album just STOPPED and went away after publishing his claim to fame book.

I once posted on his website and did not get a response. The jist of the post is below:
Dear Mitch,
What's the deal with the ears and your hair covering them up on TV?
Thanks.

people to know that he's a Hobbit. I don't know why, though. As Hobbits go, he's actually sort of handsome.

The reason that he doesn't understand the value of blogging is probably the same reason that he approved the design of that POS website. Oh...click on the bookshelf to learn more about his books, or click on the globe for foreign language translations? So intuitive!
This website is the poster child for horrible usability.

civil is always better than being an ass.
My question is what did he do? Was it on the radio show earlier? If so, I guess I missed it.
GO BLUE.

It was on his radio show today. I'm sure Brian will post a podcast.
EDIT: After Brian was off the air a caller said that Brian has more in depth coverage and more info than the Freep article. Mitch and his sidekick totally lost it. Going on a rant about the only thing bloggers do is use Google and cut and paste.

That is priceless. I can't wait to read Brian's article (yes, I said article and not post!) on this.

It is unfathomable to me that there are still people that (a) lump all "bloggers" together (and rest assured, they would use the scare quotes), and (b) refuse to acknowledge that some bloggers know a thing or two about writing an article.
It strikes me regularly that Brian is simply one of the best writers I've read. Are his articles perfect in every respect? Of course not. But his writing speaks to us in a way that one hundred traditional journalists never could.

surpise me.
I used to like his radio show years ago with Stoney. In fact I used to like his writing. I even thought that some of his fab five reporting and follow up was pretty good. But Mitch slowly but surely got very arrogant. Very high on himself. It seemed to coincide with his move away from sports specific writing to more general stuff, including that horrid radio show on JR -- I assume he's still on it in Detroit and that's the show you're referring to. I'm not sure if it's me, Mitch Albom, or both of us that have changed to make me cringe whenever I hear him commenting or my wife happens to read someting he wrote.

Mitch definitely feels he's on the moral highground of every issue. I hope I'm as smart as him when I grow up.
