Possible serious injury for Willie Cauley-Stein.....

http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/2010148-willie-cauley-stein-injury… This could have an impact on Sunday's matchup. Nothing is concrete yet but Cauley - Stein is definitely an elite defensive center for Kentucky and a big loss if this injury proves to be serious. Kentucky still has Poythress....Randle and Dakari so there won't be any tears shed for their plight. Let us all bear witness to the ever- growing legend of Jordan Morgan this Sunday as he rumbles with more bigs that he "has no chance" against. I like the 5th year senior's odds once again.

I don't think there is any way Cauley-Stein plays. An ankle injury bad enough to put you out of the whole game is not getting better 40 hours later. I read several reports on this and a few had Cauley-Stein saying he heard the ankle "pop."

If we can get Randle or Johnson in foul trouble, UK's interior won't be the land of the trees people are saying it is.

Tracy Wolfson of CBS said that she heard his ankle pop from the sideline actually, and with everything going on down there, I would think that if you can hear that, it definitely does not bode well for Cauley-Stein. Hate to see people possibly end their own tournamenent run like that, especially when their team is still in it. I know John Calipari was quoted by SI as saying, "It's not a good ankle injury, let's put it that way."

Class of '97, University of Michigan. I assume it's common knowledge that we can claim her as our own around these parts, but it's worth repeating. Sideline reporters have become mostly an annoyance, imho. That said, Ms. Wolfson stands out as a professional, and as one who actually attempts to provide legitimate hard news to the viewer. Her reporting of this injury last night based on overhearing, "I heard a pop," was some excellent work.

Keep in mind, he went down pretty early in the game and UK still managed to handle a very very good Louisville team and pull out the W.  Don't think losing him will have quite the impact we would hope for.  Certainly doesn't help them any, but they're plenty deep enough to roll without him.  Should be a good game either way.  Can't wait.

If they seriously need an ankle injury from a teammate to motivate them in the tourney, then there are bigger motivational issues at play.
And in anticipation of the "but Kevin aware..." response. That was a whole other level of injury and Louisville was a TEAM, not a collection of one and fines.

I hate to see kids go down with injuries. I'm sure Kentucky will be happy to know Mitch will likely not play as well. Tough time for Willie too with the Draft around the corner.

right out of the game at the end with out the big guy. KY has exceptional young talent and did a great job rallying back to win. So him being out wasn't that huge of an issue for them. But I get your point.

Michigan will have to get back to playing error free ball. The last half was atrocious on how many errors they made. The team needs to take care of the ball better and play smart if they want to beat those lubers from KY.

Since we're missing our one player who probably would have been a first round pick (or one of two since Stauskas may have worked his way in there), I don't feel sorry for any other team that suffers an injury. It sucks for Cauley-Stein himself, of course, but I hope UK doesn't use it as an excuse if they go down at some point.

about this thread is the number of people who are waiting to hear the MSU reaction to the Kentucky injury. Who cares what Sparty thinks?

Feel bad for the kid, hope his ankle is OK, and hope we can send him (and his teammates) home to recover.

..."popped" ankles several times playing basketball. Never an achilles injury. Always torn ligaments with lots of swelling and pain. It can take weeks to heal depending on the degree of damage.

Agreed. The last time I heard my ankle pop, I was on crutches for a few days and gimpy for a week. I would be very surprised if Cauley-Stein can play in an Elite 8 game two days later.

Kentucky likes to switch on all pick-and-rolls. Cauley-Stein has an elite ability to stay in front of guards on the switch, which would have created some problems for Michigan's offense. Johnson and Randle do not share that ability, so Michigan should be able to exploit them on the pick-and-roll.

You never cheer someone getting injured but I won't be upset if he can't play.

Kentucky scares me. A really talented team that's finally coming together. I can't figure how they're only an 8 seed.

(Also, just saw Izzo mentioning injuries again in his postgame presser. lol)

Seems there are some good people amongst the Michigan fans. I do not like some comments but hey no biggie. This season has been better for Kentucky than I really expected and I hope Kentucky wins it all. But if we lose to you I will be ok. The big topic is I want Willie and any other college level player to not get hurt. If you need them out of the game to win is it still winning because you didn't beat the real team? Anyway good luck Sunday and see you all then.

Did you hear anyone say they need him out of the game for us to win?  No.  We're saying we've had our share of injury problems and we're still an Elite 8 team just like you guys.  No one is wishing bad things upon your player at all.  However, if you have to go through a tough game without one of your star players....welcome to the club.

Injuries are part of the game.  Of cousre it is still winning.   We've been without arguably our best post player pretty much all season.  By your logic, we're practically undefeated.

Cauley, great player. The team came together and we got it done without him. Using him as an excuse due to a loss to wittle mich program on Sunday? Nah, The Cats are coming! We have a better coach, better players and a better program all together. Mich sucks! Go Cats!!!
