Polynesian Bowl Draft
The Polynesian Bowl draft was held yesterday and the rosters were announced. All of the Michigan commits except Kurt Taylor (Dylan McCaffrey, Chuck Filiaga, Joshua Ross, & Phil Paea) got drafted by Team Ronnie Stanley. Nico Collins unfortunately got drafted by Team Marcus Mariota. There is only one Georgia commit in the game (WR Mark Webb) who is also on Team Mariota.
It looks like Corey Malone-Hatcher could not play in the game because he enrolled early at Michigan. I didn't see Jay Tufele or Oliver Martin on either roster as both were originally announced as committed to playing in the game. Game is on Saturday at 8PM PT streaming live on ESPN3.

I hope Kurt Taylor is bringing his recruiting cap with him.

How much pull do you think Kurt Taylor has?
January 17th, 2017 at 2:27 PM ^
I hope kids committed to lesser schools are putting on their recruiting hats and trying to steal Taylor.

Classy.

No, I want him to leave the class.
January 17th, 2017 at 4:14 PM ^
And why do you want him to leave the class?
January 17th, 2017 at 4:19 PM ^
Because STARZ

and so we can be worse off recruiting kids out of power house HS programs in Georgia.
eat garbage, Mantis!

Did Kurt Taylor dump your sister?
January 17th, 2017 at 10:37 PM ^
WTF? Why would you want that for any kid? He's not holding a spot that some 5-star needs to get in. Or any other recruit, for that matter. What a shitty thing to say. Why don't you just tweet at him to leave?
You probably did... Asshat.

With those guns, I'd say he's got some pull.

Not sure he is still in the game. Michigan is visting him today and Ohio is on Thursday. UCLA yesterday.
Has two officals left. He needs to figure out where he is going.

will be visiting MSU, next weekend, so who do you hope he is recruiting for. I don't think he will be in this class, and the draft might be another example of that.
January 17th, 2017 at 3:23 PM ^
He's just going on a visit. He's still coming here if we'll have him

That's the big question.

Unless you want 0 RBs, that's stupid.
I think Samuels is gone. Unfortunately.

Why do you think Samuels is gone? Zero RBs would be fine though. We don't need to take one just to take one.
January 17th, 2017 at 6:44 PM ^
We should probably take on considering we just lost one, maybe two.

RIght. I don't disagree. I just think if it is worst case scenario it will be something we can emphasize next year since we have some pretty good ones in the pipeline currently with Evans, Walker, etc.

Pep visited Samuels today. Huge visit. Might even be the deciding factor in Samuels staying or going. Hopefully Pep was on it today

Pretty sure the draft and recruiting have 0 correlation lol

was going to explain how Samoans in their Paopaos and Soataus draft each other to reduce the drag as they cross the ocean. It IS a damn long voyage to the Polynesian Bowl, you know!

My bad.

But was still fascinating. Thanks for the link!

is still out there, in play. If no more receivers are added, maybe the focus could shift to bringing in a TE. Maybe another Asiasi, last-minute commit. Spending a few days with 5 or 6 current commits can't hurt.

I first read that as he didn't get drafted at all. His dad must be enjoying the trip too since he is a UH alum.

I'm very interested in seeing how Phil Paea stacks up against elite talent. The guys he went up against in high school were garbage. No offense, but they weren't physically able to compete with him.
Phil had to deal with 160lb. Guards. Not exactly difficult. He's not a camp guy, so there is no real film on him going against ther D1 talent. This week will be very telling for him.
January 17th, 2017 at 5:45 PM ^
"Very telling" in giving some indication of where he is today. Not so sure it will be telling about his ceiling a few years down the road.
January 17th, 2017 at 9:12 PM ^
My son played him twice. Phil was just so much bigger and stronger than everyone. I'm curious as to how good he is now against others of his size and strength.

It would be cool to see the draft order, not just the alphabetized results. Like, was Nico Mariota's 2nd rounder? His 8th?

I dont think the teams make a big difference. As we seen in the AAA game Tua and Najee were on different teams yet found ample time to hang out together
IMO the biggest blow is that Corey MH isnt going. He is clearly the teams player recruiter. He would've been all over any of our targets there.
