Games are still going on. There's another game tomorrow too, so I would guess the polls will be updated on Tuesday.

And you want to see a poll that Michigan won't be in.

They used to come out in the Monday paper. But now we've got some kind of digital stuff, or something.

And guys at RCMB will actually think this comment was serious. Pure comedy over there. I don't post at all but I read whenever I'm in a bad mood and need a pick-me-up.

I don't expect us to be ranked already. Maybe if we do well in South Bend.
August 31st, 2014 at 11:51 PM ^
We won't be ranked. If we win Saturday we can slide in as a #23-#25 probably after that.

I respectfully disagree. 23-25 seems about right. We've got a lot of fans but a lot more haters. Including some of those that vote.

It would likely boil down to how many teams in that 20-30 range get upset next weekend. ND would drop below us for sure, and 15 SC plays @ 11 Stanford, so one of them will fall as well. And I think we'll be ahead of Washington tomorrow because they had a tough time with a bad Hawaii team.
My guess would be more like 20 if we win, again, depending on how other games shake out.

Mrh, I'm not sure about that. UM has beaten ND a lot recently, with diminishing returns. Unless they just blow the doors off of the Fighting Irish, bottom 20's seems to be the ceiling for a ranking.

Although I used to have a "can't wait to see the latest top 25!" viewpoint on them, over the last decade (or more) I've adopted the attitude of "who needs 'em!" for about the first half of the season.
Think about it: how can anybody take them seriously, seeing that a good share of the voters in nearly every poll out there either are seriously uninformed/malinformed or simply don't care/don't have the time to take the time it would take to put together a well thought-out ballot.
And then there is this: how can I judge any team based on what they accomplished last season? or based on which players return vs which players need to be replaced?
No matter how much attention a poll voter pays to the system and the games themselves, no way can teams be ranked with any accuracy until having at least a few games under their belts.
And even then, my emotional side somehow just can't wait for the weekly poll...

I wholeheartedly agree. Right now I am more focused on seeing the team progress and gel as a team. I think this weekend will be a good indication of where we stand. If the O-line can provide good pass protection and make some holes, then I will be thinking positive thoughts and start care about the rankings. Although, I would prefere the team is never ranked, so they always hungry and never satisfied and it iseasier for them to do that when they are constantly on the outside looking in.

georgia get the top spot and some of the top teams should fall a bit based on their games. Alabama and ohio didn't look very good.

Generally a win over 4-8 teams vaults teams upward.
