They used to come out in the Monday paper.  But now we've got some kind of digital stuff, or something.

It would likely boil down to how many teams in that 20-30 range get upset next weekend.  ND would drop below us for sure, and 15 SC plays @ 11 Stanford, so one of them will fall as well.  And I think we'll be ahead of Washington tomorrow because they had a tough time with a bad Hawaii team.

My guess would be more like 20 if we win, again, depending on how other games shake out.

Although I used to have a "can't wait to see the latest top 25!" viewpoint on them, over the last decade (or more) I've adopted the attitude of "who needs 'em!" for about the first half of the season.

Think about it:  how can anybody take them seriously, seeing that a good share of the voters in nearly every poll out there either are seriously uninformed/malinformed or simply don't care/don't have the time to take the time it would take to put together a well thought-out ballot.

And then there is this:  how can I judge any team based on what they accomplished last season?  or based on which players return vs which players need to be replaced?

No matter how much attention a poll voter pays to the system and the games themselves, no way can teams be ranked with any accuracy until having at least a few games under their belts.

And even then, my emotional side somehow just can't wait for the weekly poll...

that does not give a shit about the the polls. We just need to win every week and the polls will be fine. We have the chip on our shoulder and something to prove and that is what is going to make this year so much fucking fun.

I wholeheartedly agree. Right now I am more focused on seeing the team progress and gel as a team. I think this weekend will be a good indication of where we stand. If the O-line can provide good pass protection and make some holes, then I will be thinking positive thoughts and start care about the rankings. Although, I would prefere the team is never ranked, so they always hungry and never satisfied and it iseasier for them to do that when they are constantly on the outside looking in.

FWIW, you don't have to assume that the OP was asking in order to see where Michigan is ranked. I don't think we will be ranked, and don't really care at this point, but I'm looking forward to the polls to see to movement (or lack thereof) of for a number of other "top" teams after this past weekend.

The poll where Texas A&M moves up to #6 for beating then #9 South Carolina, who, on the other hand, only falls to #13 due to the fact they lost to now highly ranked #6 TA&M - and the self-perpetuating, SEC circle jerk continues on as usual?

Who cares about week 2 polls?? You think the win over app state moves us into top 25?? It shouldn't.

Let's wait to be ranked until after we play our OoC schedule. AsU was great and all... But there's still ND, a semi-Trap game with Miami (NTM), and a fairly decent Utah team to be played. I don't want to even be thinking about rankings until conference play starts.
