Poll: Favorite Michigan Sport Other Then Basketball/Football?

Submitted by WolverineBeastBoy on

I just though of this earlier today, what is your favorite Michigan sport other then Basketball and Football? There is many choices like Golf, Hockey, Lax, Baseball, Soccer, Swimming, Crew, Track/Field and more! Personally my favorite is Hockey. I just love the sport and play the sport! Yost is such a old, yet clean rink that has so much memories/history in it. Michigan has done a great job with Yost. Also, Red Berenson is forsure the best coach in NCAA, and Michigan has done a tremendous job with building the program up. Leave your thoughts and choices below and tell WHY! Go blue

That's kinda the way of it for me as well.  I've followed Michigan hockey on & off since I was a kid, and went to almost every home game while I was a student, cheered my ass off, the whole nine yards.  Hockey has been hugely formative for me, and I still get home to catch at least a game or two pretty much every year.

The results haven't been there as much the last few years, it's true, but that's only played a small part in my focusing more on softball.  I still know most of the players, I watch the games I can on TV & keep track of the ones I can't.  Softball, though, has moved in & captured my attention (as anyone who knows my posts around here can attest!).

Softball consistently produces wins & championships, and that's a big part of how I got hooked.  Even more than that, though, I just have the highest respect for the program, and for Hutch above all.  She's a great coach, and built a top-level program here against truly insane odds.  Seeing the great young women she puts out there year after year is an absolute treat.

Once hockey starts producing again, they'll probably jump back up & be at least close to equal with softball for me, but softball is here to stay for me as well.

Any answer other than hockey is wrong. Then fourth would be womans hockey since Im close with one of the players.

Hockey, because it's hockey

Volleyball. The power  of the ladies and the speed of the game. It is non stop action.

I have seen multiple sports, but volleyball is the one non-revenue sport that has me hooked.

It used to be hockey, but they are so difficult to follow any more.

My daughters have always attended the W basketball camps for kids, and I have always been impressed with how classy and generous the M women basketball players were in teaching the girls at the camp.

Therefore, my vote is W basketball.

Follow the football and both bball teams avidly - I don't separate the bball teams.

Then hockey, then baseball.

Btw was at the Bell Ctr tonight to see MaxPac and he scored 2, didn't disappoint.

Look at that recruiting class.

I coach youth development basketball where it is boys and girls mixed so just tend to think of it as a sport. My daughter watches the WNBA as well. We have college doubleheaders here (women's then men's games) so the feeling of one sport is reenforced even at that level.

It's my favorite sport and I try to watch every game I can. Also, as a big Wings fan, I'm looking forward to seeing Dylan Larkin for the next four years. He looks like the type of player that will finally bring us the 'La Decima'.

I love them all. I can't pick a favorite because that would mean I would like one less.

I have SuperGuides completed for Football, Men's Basketball, M&W Cross Country, M&W Lacrosse and am almost done with Softball.

Plan to get every sport a SuperGuide.

I've been to and enjoyed Michigan hockey and baseball games, but everyone knows there are only two major sports at Michigan and #2 isn't close to #1. My site has had more traffic the day after every game this dismal football season than any day during the last two basketball seasons.

Losing to Rutgers in football is more interesting than winning a Final Four game to the average Michigan fan. Other sports are mostly way off their radar. While the basketball program is in much better shape than football, Michigan is, was and will always be a football school.

Lax

Have followed the program since 04. Has been exciting to see the national championship teams through the first 3 varsity seasons.

Will say I am bias as I played lacrosse in high school and college

I didn't play sports in high school, so have no natural choices. I really don't pay attention to M sports outside of football and basketball.

I'm jealous of those that like other sports as I'd like to watch more year round.

I really enjoy watching them play, they're intense and play hard. I never feel like they're out of a game. Even when they blow someone out they're fun to watch.

Softball is presently very good and that's the only reason anyone really pays attention to non rev sports.

I mean look at the number of posters saying it used to be hockey, the unsubtle implication being that it's not worth following if we aren't winning. Even basketball is subject to this... in my day, a lot of people would have put MBB behind hockey at Michigan
