Poll: Did you renew your FB tickets this year?

Submitted by Bluegriz on

I know the mgoblog audience is not necessarily a representitive sample of the overall Michigan Football ticketholder universe, but it seems like there are enough people here to provide an indication about 2014 football renewals.  There have been several times in the last couple years when people on this site confidently declared they will not renew season tickets anymore (due to losing games, ticket price increases, dynamic pricing, The Noodle, Dave Brandon, etc).

So I'm curious, now that we are past the renewal deadline ... did you ACTUALLY give up your tickets?  Either you did or you didn't.

Not sure if we'll get enough responses to draw conclusions, but I'll suggest a template for responses and include my own responses as an example.

  1. Student/Alum/Did not attend:  Alum
  2. Number of previous seasons you purchased season tickets, as student or not, excluding 2014:  9
  3. Number of tickets renewed for 2014:  2
  4. Number of tickets NOT renewed for 2014:  4
  5. Bonus question:  Did the Nuss hire or the Penn State night game announcement sway your decision?  (No for me)

I thought about letting all 6 go but just couldn't do it.

it still is .. are you getting what you paid for?   If Michigan was always fighting for a B1G title, I doubt the "pricing" would be an issue.  Do ohio, LSU or Alabama fans complain about the price of tickets.  When you add the cost of parking and tailgating and travel costs (I spend $60 in gas round trip from Indiana) ... the tickets cost is just a portion of the expense.

Bottom line is that I love football Saturdays in AA.  Grew up in AA during the 60's and I renewed my 4 tickets (2 mine, 2 my son's - UofM alum). I normally travel to couple of away games each year.

Last season was about as pathetic a display of coaching as I have ever witnessed at Michigan (yes including RR).  And now the AD is seeing the impact of last year ...which followed another "bad" season.  So 2 bad seasons back to back after everyone thought the second coming was upon us.

I am going to get what I paid for this coming season ... time will tell, but I'll be there.

Go Blue!

I did call and ask if they would waive the PSD because of how crappy the schedule was, I got the impression I was not the first to ask and they were highly annoyed at the question yet again.  I recommend it in the future, I felt better afterwards.

What percentage of season ticket holders actually attend every game? I get the impression that a lot of people renews mostly for tradition and to guarantee a spot at the best games, but try to unload a good portion of their tickets on the secondary market. The lousy slate of games and the poor performance of the team would tend to hit these people pretty hard financially. Anyone here in that boat?

  5. No.  The trends are that I am enjoying the games less, growing more irritated with the expense and inconvenience of traveling to the game (3 hours away), growing more discouraged by the team's performance in general.  Plus the schedule this year just blows.  There's no way I can re-sell any of those tickets for more than face.

Bonus: gave up season tix with MGoWife asking about 1k per season ticket, and not being able to come up with a good answer. 4 tickets equaled a good trip to both Ann Arbor and another to Vegas each year...

Alum/4 seasons/4 tix not renewed/0 renewed

Slightly tempted to renew with Nuss but not enough.  West Side Chairbacks, overpriced for product on field and frustrated AD won't allow sale on StubHub.

Student/Alum/Did not attend: Alum Number of previous seasons you purchased season tickets, excluding 2014: 17 seasons Number of tickets renewed for 2014: 2 Number of tickets NOT renewed for 2014: 0 Did the Nuss hire or the Penn State night game announcement sway your decision? No Although there was a gap in season ticket purchases after kids, we would still go to one game every season, so I've been attending games for over 30 seasons. Michigan football is passion. Losing sucks, but either way, I'm a fan and love to be in the stadium for the games vs. sitting on my couch.

This chain of posts is interesting, it is hard to know what this means given the small sample size and obvious posting bias. Many people indicate they can save money buying tickets on Stubhub. Are there any data to back this claim? Last year I went to the Notre Dame game and the tickets cost as much as half the cost of season tickets. I expect this year you could do ok going through stubhub but next year I doubt you could do this, unless you plan to miss out on the best games.

    • Number of tickets renewed for 2014:  1
    • Number of tickets NOT renewed for 2014:  0
    • Did the Nuss hire or the Penn State night game announcement sway your decision?: Penn State, maybe a tiny bit, even though that's far from a heavyweight title bout it should be a fun experience. Nussmeier, yes. I really don't know if I could have justified shelling out $300 to watch another season of the Al Borges Experience.

    No,

I don't get to hang out with my UM friends often enough.  MI football is when we get together, tailgate, watch the game, and then either celebrate or bitch and moan together afterwards.  Still nothing like being inside the stadium on game day.
