Poinsettia Bowl

It seems like SDSU has an unfair advantage in the above named bowl. I love the service academies, but Navy's pants are horrible. They look like they're on the way to their aerobics class. [ed-S: did you not read the front page today?]

One of the more ridiculous bowl titles in history along with the Gator Bowl now named the TaxSlayer Bowl.

Not that it's close to the Poulan Weed-Eater Bowl, though.

I changed thread name because reasons today.

Two very disciplined defenses vs two offenses that screw with you cerebrally. SDSU does the things we thought Borges should have: packaged power plays. Navy is a 3O which SDSU has fared well against. Lots of smart guys playing football chess out there. Watch Navy's QB on his option reads. Best in the game.

San Diego State played Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl and we hired the winning coach.

The more things stay the same, the more they change....

(Assuming Ken Niumatololo isn't the mythical Plan B, anyway.)

I would be very surprised to see that.  I think Niumatalolo ends up being a Navy lifer, much like Fisher DeBerry was at Air Force.  He's a good coach and while he's been a thorn in Air Force's side, college football is more fun when the academies are at least competent.

Once again this is proof positive that there are way too many bowls.  I guess this was inevitable as this was the generation that when they played youth sports, every child gets a ribbon or a trophy, but now this has been extended to what is now the wussification of college football.  Bowls should actually mean you had a "GOOD" season, not that you had a .500 record.  FWIW, both teams are 7-5, but go ahead and celebrate mediocrity.

Even though they aren't doing so hot, man is Navy's offense so interesting to watch. Small playbook, no real surprises to defenses, and it's still hard to stop. That's football.

SDSU just missed an easy FG to lose to Navy. Glad I could donate to the annual Office Bowl Pool, as usual (even though I follow CFB more than anyone at work). FML

I can't stress how badly both teams/coaches deserved to lose... From all the turnovers, to Navy rushing 3 which never accomplishes anything but giving up chunk yards, to SDSU throwing the ball and running out of bounds when they could've bled the clock... And then, when SD was gonna leave 20+ seconds on the clock and 2 TOs for Navy to get back into FG range had SDSU's kicker made it, Navy's coach takes that option/possibility away by wasting a TO to "ice" the kicker who was 3/3 and 20/24 on the season. What a joke of a game.
