landing spot. will be interesting to see how he does.
Poggi Official Visit to Bama per 247
Do the coaches even know?
I didn't even know unless its what I read earlier today in the thread 5 below this one
I admit I didn't check out that topic and didn't even see it but this topic confirms the rumor so sorry for the double post.
How do you think they developed their depth charts the past couple seasons? By reading Emo's posts.
This is weird.
Yeah it is. VH said the Poggi's dad doesn't comment about stuff like this so it's difficult to establish the voracity of rumors. Like how did 247 confirm?
Dont think this is a big deal..Likely a mechanism for getting a free trip to Bama. But honestly, if we lose him we lose him. F*ck it. We will all survive.
Katherine Webb is like Bama's Snoop Dogg.
Or Michigan's Kate Upton?
can we lower the necessary point total to neg posts too?
other than it's bad news?
The only thing is the lack of links, I understand he said 247 and I can look it up. But that's all I see wrong with this post.
but it still had my "rumor" tag fixed to it at the time he posted. I'm assuming some people didn't see the need for the second thread, and that's partly to blame for the negs. I had thought about consolidating it, but the traffic to the other one has slowed down considerably and they are two distinctly different topics: one was a rumor early in the day, this is news confirming that he landed in Tuscaloosa.
If they want to visit officially, why not just tell the M coaches what it really is? There is no point of debunking in the first place.
VH greater than 247
I'll await TVH confirmation
Hopefully their campus is overrun by undersexed, angry male skunks this weekend.
PANIC. PANIC. ANARCHY IN THE STREETS. WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE.
Seriously, if he stays, fantastic. If he goes to Alabama, we'll get along just fine without him.
Twice in one day he must be pretty good to occupy two officials from bama.
This does not make me happy, happy, happy.
So is he a decommit now?
no he's not a decommitt, if the rumors true he's an alabama committ. just keeping it real.
Official visits after declaring bother me a little, but at the same time, I don't care a lot. I want guys that are "all in." If a kid has an inkling of whether or not they want to go to Michigan, it's a problem.
Maybe too much pressure to declare early?
Where is smoke....there is MOST always fire!! Just cause his dad a coach doesn't make him a saint....
You ever hear of smoke machines? BOOM DEBUNKED!
Is no smoke, is co2 vapor. BOOM. SCIENCED!
Biff poggi [email protected]
Until the #Big 10 learns to recruit like the #SEC it will be an irrelevant conference. Good news for #Ohio State
Is that seriously Poggi's dad? If so, then why even let your son commit to UM?
fwiw the Gilman twitter retweets Biff's account
Well reading his tweets, he seems like he wouldn't want any of his players outside the SEC. Geez...
When was that posted?
Two days ago. And if it really is the actual Biff Poggi, he's got nothing but good things to say about the SEC.
Why? Did they build him a church?
On Jan 12 he tweeted about recruiting being a continuous process with the hash tag #sec. Perhaps he felt that Bama was paying his son a little more attention down the stretch? Just speculation, but this one would hurt...
It certainly doesn't sound like something the father of a kid heading to Michigan would say.
And this shows poorly on Poggi's dad. You'd think he would want his son to go to the school that was the best for him, not which one recruited him the most.
Could this be another Spielman where a kids dad is basically making him go somewhere other than UM? I mean this whole thing kind of goes opposite everything Henry himself has said about recruiting.
I'm sure Alabama was paying his son A LOT more
If that really is his dad's twitter account, he should be careful. He's the head coach of a high school that has started to churn out a few good players lately. You don't want to piss off an entire conference - not all of his kids can go to the SEC or Ohio. You don't want to piss off an entire conference.
Don't really think a guy named Biff cares who he pisses off.
"Make like a tree and leave"!
You need to reacquaint yourself with back to the future, dont remember if its 1 or 2.
corrects Young Biff with the above quote in two, with some added namecalling tacked on the end.
Does this mean we need to start offering cars, cash, and girls?
Biff should really take a look at the recruiting rankings..
What's that supposed to mean? Start providing cash, women, cars, tats?
Damn double post
He knows Urban doing some crooked stuff
A) Dude's name is Biff
B) Is this really the type of Helicopter dad you want around your program? Craig James anyone?
C) An adult male responds to the name "Biff"
D) I didn't realize Kentucky, Tennessee, and Auburn were such juggernauts last year compared to the bottom teams of any other conference
E) Geography anyone? Most of the top players are in the south
F) Biff. LOL.
This is ridiculous.
Leave the kid's dad alone...please return to RCMB or MLive where this crap belongs.
I don't have much time to read MGoBlog anymore but with comments like these I will continue to make time to do just that. I've never laughed so hard from a comment since I started reading. This is how I picture Mr. Poggi
Game set and match.
Alright everyone, take a deep breath and think about what you're going to say before you comment. He IS STILL a Michigan commit, we do not know all of the details.
Michigan need to put that nice guy crap aside and start being tuff in recruiting
He was tweeting back and forth with David Dawson about how he was chillin and gettin ready for Michigan.
What else would you expect but a smokescreen...froma KGB sleeper agent!!!
And he was actively recruiting a couple guys at the UA All-American game. This visit seems fishy, but there has been plenty of evidence of him sticking to his M commitment.
has 14 tweets and is following 11 people..it doesn't look very legit
Gilman football, Tim Sullivan, and his sons follow that account though.
I never trust an egg on Twitter.
But apparently he is not very twitter inclined .... or drunk .. Took him 3 tweets to get the Big Ten recruiting comment out correctly
was following Lennay Kekua on Twitter...
Made. My. Day.
Follows the account .. I would say it's safe to say that it is his dad's account
That's a really spastic Twitter account.
I'm thinking he still winds up in the Maize and Blue when it's all said and done.
This is not how I wanted to start my day.
We find out who wants to be here and who just wants cars and twins. Virtue> Victories
But on the bright side, that would mean Shane is our top-ranked recruit again.
While some of us are a bit disappointed in how in how this class is shaping up relative to how it started, there are a few things to keep in mind:
1. Our program is all of 2 years removed from the 3-year fiasco that was RR's tenure and the process that left us essentially without any real 2011 class. Ending up with a top 10 class after that is still pretty impressive.
2. Skill position stars. Sure we all would have loved a treadwell or Isaac level player. And we will be sorely disappointed if we don't land green in 19 hours and 38 minutes. But, reality check: for the past 4-5 years, these kids knew Michigan as a team on which Denard was the entire offense, RBs did virtually nothing (yes, fitz had a decent 2011, but it's not like he was a top 15 RB), and aside from a few hemmingway catches, the vertical passing game didn't exist. That's been a widely held perception of our team since these kids were in junior high school. We all made fun of MSU thinking of itself as receiver U, but in recent years, they have featured mote star wr talent than us. So, I can somewhat understand why these kids are not choosing Michigan. We need to change the perception, and I think that this will happen next year with a full year of running a more traditional offense with devin.
3. Competing with the SEC. If poggi drops us for bama, it will suck but at the same time, it is hard to blame the coaches when the sec schools have such a decided built in recruiting advantage. Put aside what I believe to be widely acknowledged improper recruiting practices, the weather is amazing, the girls are smoking hot and the schools get more ESPN love than we have seen in a decade. Being features on 2-3 gameday games a year and playing in primetime almost every week matters. Doesn't hurt that Bama has not only won a get titles recently, but their entire roster seems richer drafted on day 1 annually. Again, we can whine about the unfair advantages, the oversigning and the rest, but these things exist and will always put us at a disadvantage in recruiting.
Ultimately, I think that as hoke builds line depth, gets a somewhat more mature (upperclass) team and installs hosnfull system, we will be back to regularly going to b10 championship games, which will help recruiting, which will help us win more, which will help recruiting . . .
a coaching change and NCAA sanctions and it has not hurt their recruiting one bit.
I'm sorry, but excuses don't really cut it in big time football these days. If we lose Poggi and Green goes elsewhere we will have only a couple top 100 recruits under most of the rankings (Scout seems like an outlier) which is far behind the top programs. Hell even PSU has 3 top 100 guys and they are a tire fire.
Depth is great but at some point you need difference makers. Just rewatch the South Carolina game if you don't agree.
Ohio State had one bad season, and prior to that they were Big Ten Champs like 6 years in a row. And that bad season was only because they had their coach leave 3 months before the season was supposed to start, the Upperclass QB didn't pan out as a Game Manager, and the Freshman QB couldn't handle it all.
So their situation isn't really comparable to ours, and of course their recruiting would pick up right where they left off
GO HOME, BIFF. YOU ARE DRUNK.
and he is still following a bunch of UM recruits. If he is decommitting he sure is going undercover to do so.
I don't think it's a question of whether Henry wants to come to UM. It's more of whether his dad wants him to. And besides, Dawson was saying Go Blue a ton like the day before he decommited.
I know for certainty that Poggi (and Biff) will do one of the following:
1. Stick with his original commitment to Michigan
2. Pick another school
Ha, that Twitter count is weird as hell.
That is too much common sense. You need to panic more.
I may just re-think how I live my life after reading this. I've clearly been living a lie
"the unexamined life isn't worth living"
Not cool what Biff said about the B1G, his son Jim is still an Iowa LB. If it's really his twitter.
So Biff is talking up the SEC, implying that Ohio does it right, and telling the coaches that they're going on a business trip? Can't imagine this will end too well.
Well we have chased them off for sure if they read this thread,
Because we're concerned when one out beat recruits is visiting another school? I would imagine a big time coach has a pretty thick skin to fans.
Has anyone thought that maybe the poggi's are just using the official to cut down some of the costs of making the trip to Alabama? And maybe they have talked to Hoke about this and he is ok with it.
I wouldn't believe one tweet from that account. Are you serious.
The coaches may not know about this visit.
WE know about it, and the coaches probably follow this stuff a lot closer than we do.
Coaches didn't know about Pharoah Brown's Oregon visit until he put a picture on twitter.
And did we know about that ahead of time?
And the reason why Brown lost his spot is that the coaches didn't know about it ahead if time. They seem much more flexible if given fair warning.
My point was that I'm pretty sure we didn't know until that point, either. He didn't tell anyone until he got on the plane. It's not like we're finding stuff out before the coaches are. On this one in particular, there's no way they haven't heard about any of this if we're hearing about it, and that probably goes for nearly every rumor we see on here.
Leaves. What. He was never here. We have no basis His loss. Life is good.
Sure if he leaves, we'll eventually replace him, we don't even know if he'll be worth a damn, let's just do what we would have done 25 years ago before recruiting was such a Hollywood deal and wait until NSD or until he actually plays college football before we declare the end.
Kate > Katherine
Eeeeh that's some serious homerism in my opinion.
He gone. Sucks, wish we actually had some time to find a replacement. Great parenting Biff, teach those kids to be men of their words. Or just lie and lie and continue to lie when you're found out and act like you hate recruiting. What is it about recruiting that makes all these people sneak around and flip flop on decisions. I really can't think of a real life parellel to anything like it.
You are the worst poster ever. There , I said it.
He has every right to pick a college of his choosing. Kid worked his butt off to get where he is at. And he hasn't even played a down in college yet and you think he is an all star. He's 17-18 making a bigger decision than most people at that age he should make sure.
I agree with you that every person has the right to make their own decisions about their personal life choices. However, I do think it is a shame how easily people commit to one school and then go back on their word. I know we are talking about kids 17-18 year olds, but that is still no excuse to have no integrity. In addition, I am not referring to Poggi taking a visit to Bama, as an acceptable reason to get angry at his choices. However, when a kid changes his commitment to a different school, I understand how that could make people a little unhappy.
go to Bama and get a one year scholarship, then get your scholarship cut like alot of other kids in the SEC do. We'll see how Biff feels about Bama after that
On here hating a kid who is visiting another school...if he stays at Michigan, then what? Quit acting like a bunch of buckeye idiots.
People are 1) criticizing the Dad's public tweet which is fair game, or 2) lamenting the potential loss, or 3) rightky expressing disappointment that a recruit might go back on his commitment.
Obviously we won't know where Poggi is going until the LOI is signed and he should sign whereever be wants, but I haven't seen any posts slamming the kid.
Even know if that is his dad for one. And lamenting the potential loss of a good recruit isn't going to do anything but make you look foolish. It's like a rocking chair, you can go back and forth worrying, but you aren't actually going anywhere. Just chill out...
Mods, take the Mlive trash out of this thread. This is ridiculous and everyone reads this board. People just want to sit here and trash the kid.
I just picked up some Sam Adams Boston Lager, took a chill pill, and am ignorning all these rumors. IMHO I think Poggi stays with Michigan, but I wish him the best of luck in his career if he chooses elsewhere.
Looking forward to relaxing this weekend and seeing where Green chooses tomorrow.
I would be surprised if this twitter account really belongs to Henry's dad. Let's all take a breath and be sure that we don't get catfished. This account has very little activity on it.
Talking recruiting is what makes the offseason go by quicker...its football without the game itself, BUT in all reality we have plenty of talent, if we loose a guy or two it shouldnt matter. Its up to Hoke and his crew to develop this guys and turn them into elite college players... Michigan has never had top recruiting classes, but we always had the coaching that have made some of the great players to play at this university. So lets chill, and lets hope Hoke gets these guys ready for next year.. I want to see smash mouth defense next yr
He's just going down to enjoy himself some good old fashioned Southern hospitality, if you get my meaning
You mean like sex with girls?!
A little dissapointing at the comment from his pops but I think he still goes blue. I'm curious what the SEC is doing, thats legal, that is differentiating them so much from Hoke and Co.
To know what they are doing? Winning National Championships.
but I think Poggi is more valuable to this class than Greene.
We need solid lines on both sides to start winning games...
The ESPN Bama guys don't seem to think it is a recruiting trip, which pretty much falls in line with what the other sites are saying too. I think this is just 247 being 247.
The discussion on here about Biff Poggi's tweats is ridiculous.
The Biff Poggi twitter is clearly a fake. Given the OSU reference it's most likely an OSU fan...trying to get all the michigan board to start flaming.
There are tweets from last summer that have nothing to do with football - they have to do with church, his assistant coach's surgery, etc. If it's an OSU fan, it's a very long and complicated plot.
You’ve got to be kidding. The account was never very active. And yes, a few (14 total) random nonsensical tweets (Moeller fan, bible study, Wizard of Oz, an Advertisement, and now a couple tweets criticizing the Big 10 recruiting with an Ohio and SEC reference) by a guy who is known to be pretty smart. Give me a break. Does this sound like the proud and smart father/coach who sends many of his players to the IVY league and who’s two sons are committed to the Big 10 for football. He never even tweets about his sons. People who know Biff have already stated that this account is far far far from his character.
I know a girl on the internet that would like to meet you. HaHa.
Why would I be kidding?
I never said it was Biff Poggi. All I said was that if it's an OSU fan, it would be a long and very complicated ruse. Is my statement untrue?
Thanks for clarifying. That's more clear. My point was that it wasn't Biff Poggi and the board shouldn't assume it was.
At least the elder Poggi enjoyed the Bama visit. A lot.
