Poggi Official Visit to Bama per 247

Submitted by gutnedawg on
I'm not sure if this was the coaches had in mind when they cleared the visit... EDIT: Poggi has arrived in Tuscaloosa for his visit. I know the coaches cleared him to join his father on a business trip but I'm not sure if they cleared an OV.

A) Dude's name is Biff

B) Is this really the type of Helicopter dad you want around your program?  Craig James anyone?

C) An adult male responds to the name "Biff"

D) I didn't realize Kentucky, Tennessee, and Auburn were such juggernauts last year compared to the bottom teams of any other conference

E) Geography anyone?  Most of the top players are in the south

F) Biff.  LOL.

Alright everyone, take a deep breath and think about what you're going to say before you comment.  He IS STILL a Michigan commit, we do not know all of the details.

I say this with a bit of sarcasm, but if we lose out on Green and Poggi it will indeed be another disappointing ending to a good recruiting class.  For the second year in a row, what started out early as a top 3 class would slide to just a top 10 class.

Good, yes.  Great, not quite.

While some of us are a bit disappointed in how in how this class is shaping up relative to how it started, there are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Our program is all of 2 years removed from the 3-year fiasco that was RR's tenure and the process that left us essentially without any real 2011 class. Ending up with a top 10 class after that is still pretty impressive.

2. Skill position stars. Sure we all would have loved a treadwell or Isaac level player. And we will be sorely disappointed if we don't land green in 19 hours and 38 minutes. But, reality check: for the past 4-5 years, these kids knew Michigan as a team on which Denard was the entire offense, RBs did virtually nothing (yes, fitz had a decent 2011, but it's not like he was a top 15 RB), and aside from a few hemmingway catches, the vertical passing game didn't exist. That's been a widely held perception of our team since these kids were in junior high school. We all made fun of MSU thinking of itself as receiver U, but in recent years, they have featured mote star wr talent than us. So, I can somewhat understand why these kids are not choosing Michigan. We need to change the perception, and I think that this will happen next year with a full year of running a more traditional offense with devin.

3. Competing with the SEC. If poggi drops us for bama, it will suck but at the same time, it is hard to blame the coaches when the sec schools have such a decided built in recruiting advantage. Put aside what I believe to be widely acknowledged improper recruiting practices, the weather is amazing, the girls are smoking hot and the schools get more ESPN love than we have seen in a decade. Being features on 2-3 gameday games a year and playing in primetime almost every week matters. Doesn't hurt that Bama has not only won a get titles recently, but their entire roster seems richer drafted on day 1 annually. Again, we can whine about the unfair advantages, the oversigning and the rest, but these things exist and will always put us at a disadvantage in recruiting.

Ultimately, I think that as hoke builds line depth, gets a somewhat more mature (upperclass) team and installs hosnfull system, we will be back to regularly going to b10 championship games, which will help recruiting, which will help us win more, which will help recruiting . . .

a coaching change and NCAA sanctions and it has not hurt their recruiting one bit. I'm sorry, but excuses don't really cut it in big time football these days. If we lose Poggi and Green goes elsewhere we will have only a couple top 100 recruits under most of the rankings (Scout seems like an outlier) which is far behind the top programs. Hell even PSU has 3 top 100 guys and they are a tire fire. Depth is great but at some point you need difference makers. Just rewatch the South Carolina game if you don't agree.

Ohio State had one bad season, and prior to that they were Big Ten Champs like 6 years in a row. And that bad season was only because they had their coach leave 3 months before the season was supposed to start, the Upperclass QB didn't pan out as a Game Manager, and the Freshman QB couldn't handle it all.

So their situation isn't really comparable to ours, and of course their recruiting would pick up right where they left off

Oh, who gives a shit?!? A bama site poster is already equating Poggi & Dad as the Cushman's from Jerry McGuire for Pete's sake (word stronger than oak, Sugar being Saban, etc). How arrogrant and hollow do you have to be to do that? If he stays here: Muppets and great. If he goes to Bama he probably always wanted to and it's his life so who cares? Love to have him but not if he decides his life is better off there. As for Green, another kid I'd love to have! Muppets and great all around if so. If not, who cares? Board will melt down like a nuke disaster but who honestly is so pathetic that they'd lose sleep at night or let it effect them personally? MAYBE 1% of us have met or spoken to these recruits. You don't know them. Why care? Let Poggi visit Bear Bryant & Saban for all I give a shit, haha. Those who stay will be champions. Those who don't may or may not still have success in life. I'll personally care IF we have to go the SEC route to win. I'll care when urban truly starts turning osu into an SEC North team, forcing our hand to get shady or be an honest relic. Until then, great to get both but it's their life. Let them go or do whatever and the more we all pine and beg and hang on every tweet (ffs) the more these kids will do this stuff. Let kids, other human beings, live their life. That said, I love my school and want us to have elite everything....but not at the cost of "doing it SEC style". I'd rather lose than scam, lie and cheat.

So Biff is talking up the SEC, implying that Ohio does it right, and telling the coaches that they're going on a business trip?  Can't imagine this will end too well.
