It's not working, it's disrupting any rhythm we get going. The kid is talented, but he's not ready for prime time. Denard may throw some ducks, but HE IS OUR BEST CHANCE TO WIN MORE THAN 8 GAMES THIS YEAR. Let him play!
No kidding. This offense has no rhythm let alone an identity.
I don't understand this one play after Denard threw a nice first-down, and the next play Devin came in throw an interception. Totally momentum killer.
God Aweful today. The debate is over.
Agree, but just run a normal offense, I-form, shotgun with 1 Rb and plow this team over.
Yeah! What are you thinking trying to voice an opinion?
are easily our most productive.
I get trying to mix it up, but really right after a 60 yd pass?
Especially if we did some genuine zone-read plays with the two of them in the backfield.
But I don't see those results in this game at all.
What I do see is that we get some movement going with Denard at QB, then we have a play with Gardner at QB that either gets little or nothing. Then we have to get rhythm going again, and it's not easy.
Same thing against MSU. Guess it worked against Minnesota, though...
This post sucks. Stop posting in all caps and making stupid posts.
There's a Goddamned liveblog.
It really is that simple.
If nobody tells you that this is fucking stupid to post, you and others are more likely to make the same mistake again.
If you don't want to waste your time on something, and yet you waste your time on something, then who's the real fool here?
I waste my time hoping that you, and the other MGoIdiots like you, will learn not to post this stupid shit. Thus enhancing the MGoBoard experience for me and everyone else.
I'm glad the site has guardian angels like you, making sure that every thread you don't want to waste time on gets lots and lots of replies.
I'm also very glad you took the time to say why you think Gardner should be put in at QB on random plays in such an articulate and well-reasoned manner. I thank you for that, sir.
is easily the least productive offense this team can muster. Unless Sheridan is still on the team somehow.
I'll let hoke know you posted this.
MY OPINION IS TOO IMPORTANT TO BE BURIED IN THE LIVEBLOG
AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD
For keeping Gardner in the game that people have posted on here. Way to put that Michigan education to work, assuming everyone who posted substance-free, negative replies did actually get a Michigan education.
If you DO have a good argument for keeping Gardner in the game at QB here and there, then by all means, please do tell.
Why don't you wait until the game is over before posting your knee jerk reaction? As many, many people have pointed out there is a liveblog for this type of comment. Nobody takes these midgame comments seriously.
Thanks for sharing!
So what youre saying is, if he wants to tell you not to create a new thread for your every thought because there is a liveblog to do that, he needs to make a new thread in which to tell you?
To respond to an unreasonable argument.
Irrationalality and frustration build upon irrationality and frustration. And ending a thread in 'ARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG' is both irrational and frustrated/frustrating
I here everybody and I understand messing up the rhythm, but DG has to get live game snaps early and throughout the game. It's going to be valuable for us down the road. We need him. Better to take some lumps and learn, & get coached up.
But we want to win football games now. Save it for garbage time.
However, do you think it's the best time to give him those opportunities early in a tight game, when you've just gotten a massive, 60-yard play on 3rd and 20 from your starting QB?
Like I said above, I'm not averse to the dual QB thing in theory, I'm just not sure we've got something that works in the here and now. Well, that diamond formation thing looked great against Minnesota, but we also haven't seen it since...and that was Minnesota.
Do you think the way we're using Gardner is the best way to do so, assuming we do put him in the game for a play or two here and there?
Also, INTs and ducks aside, doesn't Denard and his 300+ yards of total offense/game give us the best chance to win games?
Coaches coach and players play!
WE BELIEVE IN HOKE!!
Hoke yes, Borges not quite there yet..
I'm not frustrated with DG. I'm frustrated with the play calling. I was just as fristrated with the playcalling on first and goal as anytime DG has been in. Anytime we run off tackle we get good yds. There is no reason to lay DG right now unless it's simply to get him pt.
This is better than the year after the preceeding coaching change...He is adapting the best and as fast as he can. Give him a break and just remember that he could be calling nothing but power iso.
I clicked on this just to reply and say that this thread is Zzzzzzzzzzz....
I got to "its not" and fell asleep.
Is Denard still banged up? It seems as though he doesn't want to run, or we do not seem to be calling many designated runs for him or much zone read.
Am I wrong? I know their pass D is average, but...
But it could also be that Purdue is selling out against the QB run and thus leaving things open for Fitz and the passing game, which is a crappier version of what MSU (who were helped by the wind) and ND (who were not) did.
THE PLAY CALLING SUCKS. START LLAYING MICHIGAN FOOTBALL.
By the end of the year Borges is going to look like a genious for working in Devin now. It's Purdue, and he needs to take snaps.
And that last screen was very well executed, but I have concerns with putting him in when the game is still in question. Purdue or not, they've beaten us 2 of the last 3 years and last year was tighter than it should have been.
We do look like we have it in hand at the moment, though. In that kind of situation, I'm all for giving Gardner reps.
...and at 22-7, I can see why he's in. We do need this TD though...
Take DG out of the game. It's not fair the way he is shredding PU.
If this kid can stay healthy UM will have their feature back.
I hate formations that average over 10 yards a play
Clearly Devin is a great QB, and it's good to give him time on the field and that last TD was because Devon was in
Oh come on, really? Devin is a great QB? I just need to put on the Maize glasses and rack up karma points I suppose.
Is winning. This thread is losing.
Woooo, yeah Fitz TD on a multiple QB formation.
To quote a great philosopher: "How does Borges' ASS taste, OP?"
This shit didnt work against MSU and wont work against ohio, iowa or neb
But it worked against Purdue, i.e. the team Michigan was playing today.
two theories borges has uber genius ideas or their preparing for the invediable denard injury.
If that is the case, and the strategy is borne out later on in the season, then I'm with you on this.
4 games to go, Denard in much better shape than last year.
And those 535 yards of total offense were highly ineffective in the 34 point offensive showing.
Nebraska is just laying the Pipe on Sparty, It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine!! 24 - 3
Would love to see them let Devin spread the ball around a little bit.
Yeah, he's a better pass punter than Denard too.
Tom Brady and Elvis Grbac weren't very good as Freshman either, and that is essentially what Devin is.
That's why they didn't put Brady in every three plays for a "change of pace" during the '97 season.
all thirteen seasons of Friends.
I wish my jungle juice was as strong as the one you drank this morning...
"Oh no start Gardner...." - MGoBoard last week.
Agreed. Please for the love of god stop putting devin in. Dumb
It's terrible. Please, it's not helping either player. Devin is clearly not ready. I realize it opens the run by forcing the D to focus on where Denard is lined up but it's only a matter of time before it's been figured out. If I can see the two plays coming I'm sure opposing coaches will too.
Why is anyone bitching about the coaches or the decisions they make? Sometimes it seems like if Michigan won every game 75-0, someone would still find a reason to whine.
Why not just trust and support your coaching staff? We have been lucky that Denard hasn't missed a game yet, and that all he has sustained so far are "boo-boos." Devin needs some playing time in case he is needed. He is the backup, and needs to be ready to step in if anything bad happens.
I trust the staff to make what they feel are the best decisions. They are doing a pretty good job so far.
Devin needs to be mixed in. he clearly has the talent to play alot in a couple years as a starter. The coaches know you have to get him snaps so a. he doesnt transfer, b. he is ready if Drob goes down, c. it obviously can confuse a defense if they can execute. someday soon this kid is going to be dropping accurate long balls..you know the ones we havent seen in 3 1/2 season? the kid has earned some time if you ask me. Good luck and health to both our QB's. GO BLUE
He goes in if we are up 21 in the second half. He kills the rhythm and my buzz.
Lets see, game was in hand at the half, it was homecoming, team is 7 -1 with most of the same players we watched in that bowl game last year. Damn these coaches!
Oh, and freshmen starting on defense - wow. They did a nice job and the experience should pay off in the future.
Maybe the OP is pointing towards that 2-play sequence where Denard steps in to a nice third and long pass, converts it, and is then replaced on 1st down by Devin, who arm-punts it.
And I haven't seen any good arguments yet as to why it was actually a good idea.
Ii think the same thing but I can also see denard coming in motion against ohio state and the throwback to denard from devin for a td. I mean the throwback to smith today shouldve been a touchdown. Seems to work just fine to me, the problem is we have two talented QB's who love to compete and always want to make too big of a play sometimes instead of making better decisions. Thats the reason we have so many INT's.
He's not ready to be the featured QB, I think, but the misdirection plays in which he has been taking the snap are looking better and becoming more effective. We managed some pretty good yardage on a few of them today. Yeah, the turnover after the pass early on stung, but nothing came of it. With practice and game time, this is mitigated.
tl;Dr/idc. denard throws that what ... 25yrd or so completion and Devin comes in... and throws a pick. that's dumb. denard throwing into a spy lb/safety with a man on the wr. bad decision.
I like the sweep options but don't have Devin throw without some quick rhythm short outs.
I like the fact that Gardner is getting snaps because it's helping him develop and it's making our offense more diverse. You may not see it now but down the road you will also get a great play from Devin in the offense that will be one of the 6-8 plays that change the game. In the future when Devin is the primary quarterback I will be happy knowing the young man has some valuable game experience to help him succeed early on.
