Playing 4 of the AP top 5 in 4 consecutive weeks

Submitted by UMdad on

I don't mean to look past OSU, but Michigan could play 4 of the top 5 teams in this weeks AP poll in the next 4 weeks.  OSU will be #2 when we play them, Wisconsin is currently 5, and would likely remain there even with an OSU loss.  Wins there would put us in the playoffs where we would likely face #3 Clemson, and then #1 Alabama.  Wow.

Which site? I'm not seeing anything on scout or 247 for some reason and if it's just rivals I don't necessarily trust it.

Unless you mean the last paragraph of Sam's note from yesterday morning, which isn't at all conclusive.

considering Saturday for a while, I think he will be.  They did not play O'Korn like they were prepping him for anything to come, they played him like they needed to get out of dodge with a victory and show nothing.  They did not even run the jet sweep more than one time and that is an easy play for him to execute and is like a guaranteed 6-8 yards. I don't think the play calling would have been as conservative if they were relying on him needing to be the one to beat OSU.

I'd like to believe that but if we had any wrinkles to show, we would have at Iowa to save the game. Unfortunately, we are what we are and we might have some new stuff installed this weekend but I would not count on a hige back of tricks coming out to save the day.

the time those plays would have mattered against Iowa, we were in a mental hole and really would not have executed them well.  I think Harbaugh thought he could get through that game really, really vanilla, and we would have if not for some really odd occurences.  The punt, the safety, the Hill fumble, the running into the Rugby kicker.  I think Harbaugh fully intended on winning that game without showing anything but it just got away from him and we could not regain any momentum once the bad breaks started to pile up.

we got some snow in the second half.  This was not the snow bowl, It was not Super Storm Sandy.   it was a football game played outside in November.  They happen.  It is comfortable to blame everything on the weather but Saturday wasn't like a winter storm.  Trace amounts of snow fall and some wind.  Welcome to the midwest.

And it was his 14th start.

I mean, it was his first start in basically 2 years, in a completely different offense than the last time, under a new coach, at a new school, with totally different teammates.  And yeah, it wasn't a frozen tundra, but it was still not optimal game conditions for throwing the ball.

I have been walking around NYC today and there are 25-30 MPH wind gusts.  It isn't a hurricane, but I couldn't imagine trying to throw a football accurately in these conditions with any consistency, let alone while being chased around.  Yes it's the Midwest and it isn't a shocker, but there's a reason MSU, OSU, IU, and UM all looked terrible throwing the ball this weekend, and it wasn't all because they sucked at it normally.

experience. He also has had 2 years to learn the offense.

If he plays, I hope he kicks ass, but nothing in the Indiana game says that will happen.

Western's quarterback played more of the game in those conditions and had over 400 passing yards so please stop the excuses.

Yes Barrett sucked also but he's never going to be Tom Brady either.

Just because it wasn't those doesn't mean the weather was nice. What is your point?

It wasn't 70 and sunny with a light breeze either.

It wasn't whatever the weather was when we played Hawaii either.

And he was making his first start, on the road.

Should he get a pass? No. But should we be talking about Morris or Peters like some of you are? No.

That game really told us nothing about how O'Korn would do against OSU other than he's not some hidden Heisman candidate in game with who is unphased by any type of weather.

are sitting on the horse, and the cart is now so far in front of you that you can no longer see it on the horizon.

Welcome to big boy football. Take a look at the final 6 or 7 game stretches that Bama has played over the last 4 or 5 years. This is the tournament. If there is one thing the playoff system gets right it's the fact that whatever team eventually ends up being crowned certainly earned it on the field and left no doubt.

Clearly the Big 10 is a better conference than the SEC this year and hopefully that trend will continue into the foreseeable future. Conference dominance is cyclical but to say they haven't dominate the last decade or that it's been somekind of myth is ridiculous.

6 of Bama's last 7 games last year were:

LSU

Mississippi St.

Auburn

Florida

Mich St.

Clemson

Show me a stretch where we've had compeition like that in the last 5 years

That's looking more and more impressive every week.

That might be our signature win of the season thus far, especially considering the way we made a furious comeback, down fairly big early on.

Of course, I say "thus far" because our win over OSU will obviously eclipse that one.

I thought that was the Dienhart Theory, which states very clearly that all teams are allowed to improve as the season progresses and therefore improve their SOS perceptions except for The University Of Michigan. I could be wrong, but apparently this is a well-evidenced and accepted theory in Tom Dienhart circles.
