Pace had a pretty bad knee or back injury, career threatening, IIRC.

You don't need it. Pace was probably two years away from being a starter, and Jones was viewed as being a decent contributor this year, but not critical. Our linebacker haul from 2012 lessens the sting from this, but now we have a hole to fill at center. I'd like for the future of one of the most important positions on the team to not be resting on the shoulders of a meh 3-star recruit (Jack Miller).
There are not many 5 stars centers you know? I'm not worried about our players there, I'd like to have more depth, but I've read somewhere that Caleb Stacy is projected by scouts to play Guard or Center, so he could fill that void, even if he's a "meh" 3 star
Seems like i remember reading at some point, probably on here, that most centers are meh 3-stars. The recruiting sites don't like to give them big rankings, least glamorous position on the line.

I see what you're saying about rankings, but Miller wasn't really highly sought after either, and he was listed as a DE. The way that recruiting sites underrate the importance of centers is baffling though.
about Jack Miller. Tim loved him and thought he was "criminally underrated." As we know from the Jeremy Clark Hello post, Tim doesn't bias toward the optimistic.
