Ignoring something won't make it go away.

1. There were unsubstantiated rumors that Kellen Jones was kicked off the team for something along the lines of "no means yes.' Rumors removed accordingly.

2. News that Kellen Jones is not on the team arrives via the official UM media guide.

3. Rumors resurface because now they seem substantiated.

4. A facebook account with the name Thomas Gordon and Cass Tech/Mich networks writes on a public page that Jones is off the team for assaulting a woman.

5. 4+3=9?

Stop negging me, or keep negging me, whatever. This is news now. Refusing to talk about it because you don't want it to be true is just as delusional as OSU fans complaining about a witchhunt

I'm not saying people shouldn't share the underlying info.  Once it's confirmed, it's both (a) news, and (b) big news.

I'm just saying that Thomas Gordon f-ed up by posting something that's SURE to get him in trouble with Hoke, so maybe you could have done him a solid and not displayed that screenshot.

EDIT: Also, I'm pretty sure TG is running pretty close to the line of defamation. So... yeah.

For everyone wondering what the rumors are, they are just that: rumors. Granted this development lends the rumor a little more credence than when it was just board hearsay and speculation but nobody should want more uninformed speculation on these rumors. They are pretty unfortunate and are made even worse for the individual when they're slung about on the internet. We should all just sit tight and trust that the truth, unfortunate or not, will be made known when appropriate.

EDIT: I go through all the work of crafting a carefully worded, thoughtful response, and then Facebook makes my work old news. Oh well...

LETZ HIDE THINGS THAT MAKE OUR TEAM LOOK LIKE WE MIGHT HAVE SOME BAD APPLES BC WE ARE TEH MICHIGAN AND PEEPLE WHO GO TO MICHIGAN DONT DO BAD THINGS. MODS DELETE.

if what is said is true, and guess what: it very likely is, THAT'S ON HIM. we've got threads daily pointing out the fucked up/poor choices of players on other teams and then try to bury as quickly as possible the items relevant. he's no longer a high school kid. he's a big boy. a guy on the damn team confirmed it and we still have people trying to bury it. only by transparency can our program ever try to hold itself to a standard of "Leaders and Best," not through hiding our own crap while pointing out that of others.

embarrassing.

I believe most people want it to be deleted because they are rumors and nasty ones.  If they turn out to be false it is not fair to him to be spreading this all over the internet.  If it is confirmed, then I will have no problem posting it here.

My only problem was with the original rumors that were unconfirmed. It wasn't fair to the kid to  post something like that if it may not be true. Now that Thomas Gordon posted it on FB, I don't have a problem with talking about it on here because we pretty much know it's true.

That's an important distinction. If Hoke kicked Jones out b/c of this, that doesn't mean that he did it, just like it doesn't mean that the MSU basketball players accused of similar things last year didn't do it just b/c Izzo didn't punish them.

The part you gloss over is the "if what is said is true."  When it's just a rumor (even a persistant one), you have to compare the cost of potentially spreading a false rumor with the cost of temporarily going mum on a true rumor.

IF he did what is alleged, then your "he's a grown-ass man" speech is accurate.  But grown man or not, speculating about criminal behavior is iffy ground at best.

Agree 100%.  If the rumors are false or overstated, nobody will remember this insignificant thread.  In my life, the TRUTH trumps everything else.  If there's nothing to hide, then nothing to worry about.

A frenzied MGoBoard keruffle, over a current Michigan football player not named Kellen Jones.  Similar allegations in the rumor-mill.  Similar confirmation -- of the allegations alone -- by a member of the team.

And. The. Investigation. Went. Nowhere.  The player in question remains on the team; he was not charged, not prosecuted.  These sorts of rumors are particularly sketchy.

I make no predictions.  Just a suggestion that everyone simmer down.

man am i sick of your constant consternation. we get it. you're above the fray while the world burns itself, womp womp. i'm guessing you don't know the full details of that incident or else you sure as hell wouldn't bring it up as an example of 'rumors falling far from the truth.'

Yeah. It's hard to see how a guy would get kicked out off the team when there's been no arrest or charges. Unless it's a Demar Dorsey situation involving juvenile records. But I've got to believe even RR wouldn't have been stupid enough to make that mistake twice. So, barring proof, let's assume for now that there's a simpler explanation for Kellen's absence from the guide.

If a coach is convinced a player did something that constitutes a "violation of team rules," that's sufficient.  The standards in court and a coaches office are very different.  Coaches don't need evidence beyond a reasonable doubt. They aren't restricted by the rules of evidence or Miranda rights.

for a bowl game and even the season without waiting for the Feds to complete their investigation?  That "team rules" thing seems like a good way to stay in NCAA compliance when you're all confused by emails of a federal criminal investigation.

Just noticed that the media guide says of Ricardo Miller:

Freshman (2010) ... redshirted ... made his collegiate debut on special teams vs. Massachusetts (Sept. 18).

It also lists him as having freshman eligibility. What's up with this?

(Edit: I realize that this was discussed at length during last season, but I thought that it was concluded then that he had not actually played in the UMass game.)

Our OL recruiting seems odd if Pace truly has a serious enough knee injury to not be on the roster.  It seems like we would have gone after a center in this class or at least a guard who could play center.

Of the guards or potential guards, I would think Posada, Bryant, Kalis would be rather large to play center.  That leaves Stacey and maybe Bars along with Miller as the only center options in 2013.

If Pace is out, seems like the last OL scholarship would need to go to someone who could play center.

Not as huge a concern as you might think. Molk's in this year and any of Barnum/Mealer/Khoury could play C next season. After that, Miller will have been here for 2 years and Stacey one year. Yeah, we'd probably look for a C in 2013 but not a huge priority right now. Now if we had the option of landing a C then great but pretty much all of our remaining targets are tackles or guards

TG has also said other statements regarding players that may or may not be playing come this fall which have yet to be confirmed but seem plausible given the media guide. If that profile is authentic, then there could be some truth to what he says...

It was his dream that his son play football at Michigan.  Kellen, if true, did himself in and I don't feel sorry for him at all.

Sucks that in this country, you're guilty till proven otherwise.
