Plain Dealer: Our coach is a "one trick pony"

Submitted by MGoBlue95 on

In yet another feat of epic hack homerism, the Cleveland Plain Dealer's resident sports opinion douchenozzle, Bill Livingston, finds it impossible to write an article about OSU without taking an unecessary and factually inaccurate swipe at UM.  The latest:

"It is true that Ohio State has huge advantages over the rest of the Big Ten (except for Michigan) in national visibility, quality of facilities and alumni base. Michigan, of course, cast its lot with a one-trick pony of a coach who runs the spread, an offense more suited to schools on the make than elite schools with a big recruiting net."

Clearly, no elite, national championship quality team has run the spread in the past few years...I plan on giving Mr. Livingston a little education.  His e-mail is listed at the end of the article for all others who feel compelled to do the same.

Of course this is true. Why else would OSU have gone out and gotten themselves two running QBs.  Wait, what?

Not so fast my friend.

Elvis Grbac and Desmond Howard are from Cleveland

John Kolesar is from suburban Cleveland (Westlake)

and Charles Woodson and Dennis Franklin are from Northern Ohio (Fremont and Massilon)

plus a few hundred more...

And more future Wolverines will undoubtedly be from Cleveland.

So ignore ALMOST everything related to Cleveland.

Yes, friends, I rely on the Cleveland Plain Dealer's sports columnists for insights into all things in the world of college sports.

Yea, it's trenchant insights like this that make us all profoundly not worthy.  I, as we all, have been intellectually humbled.

To call this guy a dumb ass is an insult to stupidity in all its forms.

...he's certainly goading us a wee bit, isn't he?

This is the year RR must prove the naysayers wrong by winning at least eight. Fewer wins will expose the program to increased skepticism.

I think we'll make the eight and perhaps even nine. We're a stronger, more experienced team this year and we could have won seven last year save for a few miscues.

This year, more than a few B10 teams will realize:

What exactly is writing the Plain Dealer going to accomplish? Is Livingston going to have a come-to-Jesus moment as the scales fall from his eyes and go kick Tressel in the shins? Just let it go.

Make it even better. Also the second is much better than the first because the ending is amazing yet true and sad. Also Cleveland is screwed they should come out with a new one since LBJ is gone.

1.  It's Cleveland and he needs clicks.  He's playing to the crowd.

2.  That "one trick" has revolutionized college football, and even allowed NW to beat a lot of BT teams with more talent than them when they installed RR's offense and didn't even bother to change the terminology.

I could have sworn that some school down in the SEC beat the pants off of Ohio State in a recent National Championship game using that gimmicky spread offense that serious schools avoid.

Knowing what we do about OSU fans, I'd think that writing in to this guy (and thus showing that he got under your skin) is about the worst thing you can do.

That guy's an ignorant moron, just leave him alone. That spread offense sure as hell isn't working at Florida, it's only for programs on the make.

Sorry Cleveland Wolverines.

Do you really need to post this in every single thread?

I'm glad you posted your email address in that other thread because I'm going to sign it up for 500 spam email lists!

EDIT: I thought I was replying directly to tateforcier4heisman

This is inappropriate across the line homerism, but it also serves to reinforce how out-of-the-mainstream the Freep jihad agains the home team is

And the Cleveland videos are the two best things in the history of the internet.

A one-trick pony will never work against OSU.  Obviously, we need to go back to multi-trick pony like Lloyd if we want to beat Tressel on a consistent basis.  Right?
