Sorry, no link just saw the paper on page A6 on my way out and wanted to get it out there. Gene Smith said these sanctions were hurtful because the Michigan streak was over, yet the douche still plans on handing out the reward.

What a joke. They are basically flipping the bird to the NCAA and daring them to punish them. The sad thing is that I think the NCAA has no balls and won't give them half the punishment they deserve.
The NCAA was about to sanction Kentucky for recognizing wins that Calipari had vacated. Kentucky ended up conceding to the NCAA. I would think the NCAA would do the same in this situation.

saw yesterday that Ohio State is in process of adapting a system where players would not get any memorabilia until they have expired their eligibility. I can't find it anywhere now, I think I saw it on ESPN yesterday. Can anyone confirm/deny?
You are correct, it was reported on College Football Live yesterday that no awards will be handed out until their eligibility is up.
It takes some considerable balls to do this. Thumbing one's nose at authority when you face potentially serious punishment is unwise, to say the least. Personally, I hope the considerable balls are removed rather clumsily with a rusty lapladder.
They probably just realize it's the last pair of pants they'll have for a long time.

The school can't display the Big Ten trophy or Sugar Bowl trophy, but Athletic Director Gene Smith said the decision hasn't been made if they will be returned. The 2010 Big Ten rings were already given out and players will keep them. The Gold Pants haven't been distributed yet for the 2010 win, but it sounds like they will be.
Why is this a surprise? They won the game. Most of the players that will get gold pants, I would presume, were eligible. You can't call vacating wins a truly empty move (which it obviously is) and then be OUTRAGED when you don't see it manifest outside of the most narrow and superficial way possible.
If you go to a RCMB and see the idiots there twist the numbers on MSU's basketball record vs. UM (counting Izzo's first five games in the rivalry as "wins" when they were, in fact, losses) and think that's cool, go ahead and bash this. If you, like most, think it is a bitter and certainly immature way to be a fan, then being upset about this is a bit hypocritical.
The game happened. It is silly for OSU or losing fans or anyone else to pretend otherwise, which was precisely the reason for yesterday's scoffing at the "punishment."
I don't think anyone is OUTRAGED and I haven't read anyone counting last year's OSU game as a win for UM. I think people are pointing out how funny/ironic/stupid it is for OSU to self-punish themselves by vacating a win while at the same time reward themselves for it after they made the decision to vacate. I understand if they don't want to go back and collect rings that were already distributed. But to distribute more awards for a season that didn't happen warrants criticism, IMO.
And just because "most" of the players in the game were elegible, does not a legitimate win make. Most ouf our bball players were eligible in the 90s too, remember.
I want Ohio to keep showing themselves to be hypocrites. The more the better....and the more the NCAA will cornhole them this fall.

I can relate to OSU on this one. A few times in my life I have found myself in the middle of a losing situation and said fuck it. How much worse can it get? The answer was much worse. I learned the hard way and soon enough so will they.
Like everyone else has already said, this is ridiculous. They claim "oops this season never happened, our coach is too much of a scumbag to count these wins, by the way, here's a trophy for a game that never happened".
Osu continues to find ways to make itself look asinine in this scandal.
In actuality the black eye this places on over a decade of the rivalry is what really sucks. I look forward to increasing our win streak to two games this November. Normally I don't count forfeits as real wins but I'll make an exception in this case. I'm sure 2010 was just another year of "tsou" doing what they do. Cheaters.
They didn't forfeit the game. They're vacating it. It's not a win for us.
One more clue that they should change their name to Fonzie U. They just can't admit they were w-w-w-w-w-wrong. And that is how FU operates in every way, shape and form.
It just proves their win at all cost mentality.
I just hope that THE Ohio State University is being so arrogant that the NCAA feels they have no choice but to make an example of them. Ohio seems to be operating under the assumption that the strategy that has worked for them forever (stonewall, obstruct, intimidate potential witnesses, admit nothing that isn't already documented) will continue to work for them this time.
It would be so great to finally see them get what they deserve. Their arrogance does scare me, though. If they get off with their self-imposed wrist slap, I will be very, very pissed.
