Place to watch Michigan in Columbia, MD

Submitted by bkblue on
I have been a long-time lurker on the blog for a while, and I quite enjoy reading the various comments from the members here.  This blog provides excellent insight into our program.
I live in the DC area in Columbia, MD.  I know there are a few places to gather with other alum in DC, but that is a bit too far to drive after downing a beer or two, or more such as during the game vs. Indiana.
I decided to stay local to see what sports bars in the area are like, and I was able to find one that was more than happy to accomodate me and the other sole Michigan fan that showed up.
I talked to the owner about establishing it as a "Michigan" bar, since, to my knowledge there are not a whole lot of them in the MD area.  He told me that if a large enough group is interested, he would block off a section for "Michigan" that would have more than enough TVs to view the game.  This also includes drink special for the Michigan faithful, although they are not terribly expensive as it is.  I drank about 6 pints during the game, and ate as well, and still spent less than $40.00.
So, in that regard, the other Michigan fan that I stumbled upon, are doing our best to place the M flag in the MD area.  If anyone here is in the area, lets do our best to gatehr as friends bonded together by the maize and blue that we bleed.

I would consult with the DC-area alumni club to see if you can get some of their support (or the Baltimore club, after looking up Columbia, MD on google maps...)

There is no Baltimore Alumni club. I looked into it - too close to the DC club supposedly. Which bar is it in Columbia? I would be interested as a new denizen of the area...

Considering that there are at least a half dozen "Where can I watch the Michigan game in *enter location*?" posts a week, I wonder if it would be useful for someone to create a Google docs with a list of locations where people have had success getting M games on tv. For instance, it could include the location of the bar, ease of getting the game available, and some sort of overall M-fan-friendliness rating. It could be similar to the ticket sales post on the board, where anyone with an MGoAccount can add to it. Any thoughts?

Should have it - I.E. BWW's, Hooters, Fox and Hound, etc. If it's a national chain they've more than likely signed some deal w/ DirecTV and will have BTN - you might have to ask for it and it might be on a small TV but considering the God-awful slate of noon games this week (http://lsufootball.net/tvschedule.htm) I'd say your chances of getting a rivalry game on at least 1 TV are pretty good. You might go ahead and find a sports bar around the area and ask them if they have the BTN - I've done that before and they actually had a TV waiting on me when I got there.
