I've watched a wings game or two up there before, but never college football. I'd imagine they will all be pretty similar. Scheldes wasn't too bad - they had pretty nice TV's.

I am originally from Traverse City so I get emails from the Grand Traverse U of M club all the time. They have a bus trip planned to go to the game, but I emailed and asked what the other members who can't make it are going to do. I can't think of any specific bars off the top of my head where Michigan fans meet, but I will let you know when they email me back.
There is no Buffalo Wild Wings in TC, but there are a fair share of sports bars around town. If I don't hear back soon I can send you a list. What hotel are you staying at?

There is Bubba's which is right down town and they have good burgers and a nice bar atomsphere.
Minerva's is the bar/restaurant at the Park Place hotel (tallest building downtown). More upscale but awesome drink specials: half off draft/well drinks and appetizers. TV quality is not the greatest because they only have 6 or 7 around the bar with no flat screens but the food is excellent.
Great Lakes Brewery is downtown, great beer and food not sure about TV's because I havent been there before.
Northpeak has a great bar with several flat screens. Food is great, they have their own brewery (get the cherry wheat if you go) and is also centrally located. This place would get my recommendation.
If this all sounds foreign to you, send me your email and I can give you directions to the places from your hotel. I'll let you know what I hear from the U of M club.

has a bus going to game, BUT, there will still be a lot of fans staying back. In the past, Blue Tractor, which is downtown on Union Street has been a destination spot, and I'd expect that will remain the case for Saturday.
Other locations, depending on your tastes and location would be the Holiday Inn bar near downtown, the Mackinac Brewing Co downtown,(the screens are small though) U & I Lounge downtown (dark inside), Hooters (??).
I'd strongly suggest downtown because if you don't like where you are, there will be another bar close with it on. The State game doesn't even start til 7pm, so you should have at least the first half to yourself.

Good food, good beer and nice folks all around in those places.
I like North Peak over Mackinaw Brewing, tho it's probably just me.
Sleder's is old-time TC, probably has both Sparty's and Blue fans.
North Peak will probably be pretty neutral -- lots of young Buffys and Skippys who don't really get worked up.
Kilkenny's is down stairs from North Peak, an Irish pub knock-off, and probably a young crowd.
U and I Lounge on Front Street is also old-timey, mostly younger folk, tho TC drinkers and gyro-lovers hit it up.
Anyway, those'd be my choices.

are downtown on Front and Union Streets, so I think I'll park and take a walk around and check all those out. I have GPS so I can load them all in and take a stroll.

You could try Hooters on Munson Ave. and Gordies on Garfield.
As mentioned above, North Peak would be good. They also have
an Irish pub right Below North Peak in the same building,
on Front a couple blocks east of M37.
Petoskey has a Wild wings if you want to make the drive
up there.

Thanks for your note! We haven't yet established a "home" for football game watching this year. For the first game of the year, a small group met at State Street Grill on State Street in Traverse City just west of Park Street. They have lots of plasma screens and good food. Another option is the Catch Island Grill who is our host for Happy Hour. The Catch has a big screen or two, terrific food, great drink specials, and a fun island atmosphere. The Catch is at 120 Park Street just north of the Park Place.
Hope that helps, enjoy Traverse City although this is arguably the worst time of year to be up there. I always hated fall, there will be a couple high school football games at Thirlby field Friday night if you are really bored, it is about 5-10 min from your hotel.

Elk rapids is only 20 min away from TC right up 31 not very hard to get there at all. Might be worth the short drive as St Francis is always a good team.
I am actually getting married at the A Ga Ming golf resort next August which is just up the road from Elk Rapids about 5 miles, and as a shameless plug has 2 very nice golf courses (The Torch and Sundance).

A short while ago my fiance when she read what I wrote about Elk Rapids said I should put it in my Garmin and see how far away it was from our hotel, and poof exactly where you said. I've been mulling it over ever since.

TCSF and if they play Saturday, then head to Pearls to watch the game at the bar. If Pearl's is too crowded try Towne Club. Have fun.

The owner, Jim Cartwright, is a Michigan Man. His folks both went to Michigan as undergrads and his dad went to Med School there -- that's a Blue family and wonderful, wonderful people.
Get the Jambalaya.
Saint Franny's should pound ER, but it'd be fun to see. The Bulloch kid is something, and their running back, Ben Swan, is a son of Michigan people.
Rock on -- that's a great weekend you have ahead.
