Pizza Bowl Open Thread

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

I managed to get out of a meeting earlier than expected, so this shall be the last thing I do at my desk here....

Continuing our series of non-flashy, non-relevant bowl games is  the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, played right here in Michigan at the home of the playoff-bound Detroit Lions.

Our contestants are a 7-5 Western Michigan team versus a 6-6 Purdue team. Most pundits are predicting a close one that, either way, shows the world that Purdue has a way to go to relevancy.

4:30 PM on ESPN.

Later this evening, the Belk Bowl. Oh yeah, fun and excitement continues.

I didn't care why you chose it.  I just thought it was hilarious and awesome.  You are also cool b/c you are an avid CFB junkie like myself.  There is no suck thing as a bad bowl game.  It gives me the opprtunity to watch teams I would never get to see play unless they had them.  Maybe there will be 30 next year!

I was amused by the fact that they ESPN is not "counting anyone out". Given the teams involved, I wouldn't either. It's been pretty ugly overall.

EDIT: Is it just me or have both teams just had immense trouble with dead-on run plays and QB draws all game?

Wasn't really paying attention, but was that last fumble a designed QB run?  Or was it Carder tryiong to get away from the sack?  Either way, what a sloppy game by both teams.

Just got back from the game.  Went with several family members.  I was rooting for Western but I guess it's good for the Big Ten to win.  I won't be rooting for MSU, OSU or PSU, however.

47,000 fans showed up.  Much more than I expected.  That was probably the weirdest game I've ever been too.  Purdue tries two onside kicks and recovers them both.  Western fumbles, Purdue picks the ball up and then fumbles back to Western...that happened twice.  Carder could have easily had a couple more interceptions.  There is no defense in the MAC.  All the teams just throw, throw, throw and score a ton of points.  Not that Purdue is any good themselves.  The game might have been different if not for that 99 yard kickoff return by the Boilers.  Still hate Danny Hope.

We-he-hell.....47,000 was the announced attendance, yes, but I wouldn't put 47,000 in the stadium.  Maybe 38-40.  I mean, it wasn't too bad for an eighth-tier bowl (it's not like anybody showed up at the Hawaii Bowl) but I had my doubts about 46-47,000.  Was at the game myself, my brother is a Purdue grad so we made a family trip of it.  Second time we've gone, both games were pretty tight and entertaining if a little sloppy.
