Pizza Bowl Open Thread

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

I managed to get out of a meeting earlier than expected, so this shall be the last thing I do at my desk here....

Continuing our series of non-flashy, non-relevant bowl games is  the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, played right here in Michigan at the home of the playoff-bound Detroit Lions.

Our contestants are a 7-5 Western Michigan team versus a 6-6 Purdue team. Most pundits are predicting a close one that, either way, shows the world that Purdue has a way to go to relevancy.

4:30 PM on ESPN.

Later this evening, the Belk Bowl. Oh yeah, fun and excitement continues.

that was an insane catch of a pass that never should have been thrown. Nice play to get to first and goal. How do you throw into double coverage like that?  It ended up being triple.

are you kidding?  Gutsy call.  I think the mathlete's analysis is proving accurate in this game.  MOAR two-pt conversions!  MOAR onside kicks!!

These games tend to start sloppy because of the long layoffs. I would expect the same in the Michigan vs Virginia Tech  game as well. So don't yell at your tv if Denard starts out a little rusty.

I didn't realize this until seeing Alex Carder and remembering the jackass reporter saying he was the best QB in Michigan, but we actually played WMU this year. That seems like an eternity ago.

Two great gashes of the Purdue D end in an interception. This is getting oddly entertaining for the turnovers alone.

OFFTOPIC: I spent most of the first quarter on the phone getting promoted - late Christmas gift to me.

Do you have the authority to redirect the repair crews to my area as well? In all seriousness, I'm in the northeast corner of Ann Arbor, and in an older neighborhood with above ground power lines which made it seem like any substantial snow storm came through we would lose power. It has actually gotten significantly infrequent over the last couple years. Anything that you guys did, or is it mostly the transmission line companies?

Loved that fan sign that said something along the lines of "Detroit belongs to Purdue". Only their fan base could embrace the Pizza Bowl like that. Take pride in it BoilerFan.

.....shouting, "MOAR ONSIDE KICKS!". That would be pretty funny, I think.

EDIT: Danny Hope storms the  field, distracting the officials with his facial hair. Looking at the replay, I think I see his point, not to mention the moustache.

OH,GEEZ EDIT: Did I miss something? Did someone grease the football?

My kids actually got me into the latest incarnation of "My Little Pony", which I obviously find amusing enough to make use of show-related memes, not to mention my avatar. It's actually a sort of Animaniacs-esque deal, where the animation is clearly meant for kids, but the references in the show are actually pop culture in their nature (it makes constant Broadway and movie references), and some of the humor is moderately adult. It helps that I actually know a few people that work on the show in Vancouver through my sister, so I've become mild acquaintances with some of its creators. I just find the show funny basically, and for someone that has to do what I do each day, somewhat escapist.
