Pizza Bowl Open Thread
I managed to get out of a meeting earlier than expected, so this shall be the last thing I do at my desk here....
Continuing our series of non-flashy, non-relevant bowl games is the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, played right here in Michigan at the home of the playoff-bound Detroit Lions.
Our contestants are a 7-5 Western Michigan team versus a 6-6 Purdue team. Most pundits are predicting a close one that, either way, shows the world that Purdue has a way to go to relevancy.
4:30 PM on ESPN.
Later this evening, the Belk Bowl. Oh yeah, fun and excitement continues.

I've had this one circled on my calendar for awhile now.

Who's everyone rooting for? I've got Western. I'm from West Michigan and my sister went there. I usually root B1G so I had to think about it for a second.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:26 PM ^
I made a bet with a co-worker. If B10 wins more than 3 bowl games, lunch is on him. Otherwise, it's on me.
What are my chances of free lunch?
December 27th, 2011 at 4:28 PM ^
Pretty good. Seriously? 3 games? I know the B1G is only favored in 3, but we have 10 teams in bowls. I think you'll get 3.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:37 PM ^
3.5 seems like a fair o/u. I'd take the over. I see wins from:
- Michigan
- OSU
- MSU
- Purdue
I will not be surprised to see wins from:
- Northwestern
- Illinois
- Wisconsin
- Nebraska
I don't give much chance to:
- Iowa
- PSU

Personally don't like MSUs chances agaist Georgia. They're a pretty good team.
I do agree that OSU should handle Florida pretty easily. And I would be surprised if Illinois won. That team is completely deflated.

the 4th best team in the SEC is better than a team that was basically the equal to the B1G's best team.
I'm not putting money on MSU, nor will it hurt my feelings in the least if I'm wrong, but I see MSU winning by double digits.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:46 PM ^
For whatever reason, he's really down on B10 and thinks they've got tough matchups. We made the bet before bowls were assigned and before we knew that 10 teams would be eligible.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:51 PM ^
I think 5-5 is a good possibility. i think Michigan and Ohio should both win, and there are a bunch of 50-50 games (Penn State, MSU, NW, Purdue, Illinois). Even Iowa, who a lot of people have written off, could win. Oklahoma has lost most of its receiving corps, and their secondary is not good. Since Iowa is going to have to pass most of the time anyway, they could roll up a lot of points in that one.

As an alum this is a simple one.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:23 PM ^
I had no idea what Belk was until I looked it up.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:23 PM ^
These lame bowls are so awful. It's really bad when these stadiums they are playing in are half full or worse. The bigger bowls can't come any slower.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:33 PM ^
Double post. Sorry.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:24 PM ^
I'm gonna have to order a pizza now.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:26 PM ^
Damn that sounds so good, but I'm trying to lose about 20-25 lbs, so eating pizza won't do me any good.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:30 PM ^
This marks the beginning of my bowl pool. I've got 10 confidence points on Purdue so Let's Go!
On a side note, were the Little Caeser's end-zone scripts really necessary? Don't they get enough airtime from having their name on the bowl and from those awful commercials during Tigers games? #CmonIlitch

Hoping Purdue represents the B1G well tonight. While we're talking about it, I wonder what a pizza bowl would look like anyways...
December 27th, 2011 at 4:47 PM ^
I dunno, that's more of a pasta bowl, which is proly why it looks so good. I imagined a pizza bowl being alot messier like this
December 27th, 2011 at 5:11 PM ^
Now that's a Pizza Bowl

Could Caleb Terbush be more blonde?
December 27th, 2011 at 4:34 PM ^
Why in the world were there no bowls on last Friday but there has to be a bowl on at 4:30 on a Tuesday?
December 27th, 2011 at 4:56 PM ^
Only old people watch TV on Fridays.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:37 PM ^
Great sitting down touchback, Purdue. The 20 is a little different than the 1.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:38 PM ^
WMU grad here...I'll be rooting for the Broncos! Jordan White is the real deal, and I think they will pull this one out. They've had some recent luck against Big Ten and AQ teams. GO BRONCOS!
December 27th, 2011 at 4:40 PM ^
As a former resident of Kalamazoo I gotta go for the Broncos, but I won't waste my time actually watching this one.
December 27th, 2011 at 5:34 PM ^
When did you graduate?
December 27th, 2011 at 4:38 PM ^
Wow that was a nasty looking facemask.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:38 PM ^
Go Boilers! Every win helps how the B1G is perceived.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:39 PM ^
I've seen for a while. C'mon Purdue.....
December 27th, 2011 at 4:42 PM ^
Did Gholston transfer and somehow miss having to sit out a transfer year?
December 27th, 2011 at 4:44 PM ^
It's 2 minutes of necessary roughness!!!!
December 27th, 2011 at 4:42 PM ^
Gotta root for my Boilers, I've on occassion rooted for Purdue to not get blown out at Michigan Stadium too.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:42 PM ^
Nice pancake from Dann O'Neill # 68
December 27th, 2011 at 4:45 PM ^
I wonder if Big Dan-O regrets his decision to leave. Could be starting in a BCS bowl this year...Oh well.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:52 PM ^
Hoke definitely would've given him a shot, but he proly wouldn't be starting this year. I think he left for the prospect of starting. He never really got a shot a playtime behind Hyuge, Lewan, and Schofield.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:47 PM ^
I'm a freshman at WMU so i'll be rooting for my school. I didn't really go to the school for their athletics, but it would be nice to see them win.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:47 PM ^
The answer is: Dink, dunk, dunk, dink, dink, dink, dunk, dunk, dunk, dink, dink, dunk.
The question was: What does the Purdue downfield passing game sound like?
December 27th, 2011 at 4:49 PM ^
and giving up the 2-point conversion. Not a good start for the Fighting Hopes. Naturally I bet 7 points on the Big Ten team in the contest.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:49 PM ^
so much for controlling time possession.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:52 PM ^
Michigan beat Purdue by 22 and Western by 24
Illinois beat Western by 3 and lost to Purdue by 7
So I figure Purdue by 6 over Western
December 27th, 2011 at 11:42 PM ^
Wow....
December 27th, 2011 at 4:53 PM ^
good thing Purdue locked up Danny with that extension. I can only imagine the bidding war that would've broken out for his services had they not.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:53 PM ^
Just turned this on to see the P fumble, WMU touchdown and 2 pointer. Went to WMU for undergrad so go Bronc's!
December 27th, 2011 at 4:55 PM ^
I wonder if Graham Couch will anoint Alex Carder the best Qb in the state again with a WMU win today!
December 27th, 2011 at 4:56 PM ^
He's seen Western do a double pass, a flea flicker, and a fake FG 2-pt conversion. He's being out-Purdue'd.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:58 PM ^
...why isn't this the sponsor?
