Pissed about fans selling tickets to OSU

Submitted by bringthewood on
What I was the most disgusted by today was not the play on the field but the number of Michigan "fans" who obviously dumped their tickets to a Bucknut to make a buck. I know many of the tickets are bought and sold by ticket brokers and there are also single game tickets that could be snapped up by OSU fans but give me a break. Please don't tell me "it's the economy stupid". Don't want to go, eat your tickets or give them to a real Michigan fan. Please do not renew your season tickets so maybe someone who actually gives a crap can attend the game next year. The last two years have been frustrating for everyone but selling your ticket to a Bucknut is not the answer. I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here... I also like our chances vs OSU with Tressel and Pryor at the helm the next two years. Tressel makes Carr look like a member of the mad magicians.

Why was he negbanged for this? It's not a popular sentiment, but the guy's got a point. Michigan's economy is in the toilet, and the less than diehard fans might be fine with 7/8 home games and using the OSU ticket to finance some of or all of the cost of the rest of the package. Especially if that's the only way they can cover the cost of the package. Let's face it: the OSU ticket alone is so valuable that it could not only cover the cost of the package, but it might make you a profit. Combine that with a down year, and you get what we saw today - an awful lot of red. Say what you want about "true fans" and all of that, but money is a powerful force.

If I pay for my season tickets I will do whatever the hell I feel like with them. I personally would never sell them to the enemy, but I am not going to get down on those who do sell them, that's life. And to you and the idiots on the radio saying there was too much red in the stadium today, I would say it was about normal, there was no more OSU presence than any other team I have seen in the past. Yes it sucks that even one of them can find a seat, but that's life. In a year when we suck, yes suck, and the economy is about the worst its been in 25 years there are going to be a few enemy fans about. Deal with it, put on your big boy pants and man up. Aug

How about this, contribute to the site in some viable way for longer than a freaking month and then you can maybe offer some comment on what I post. I dont want OSU fans in our house either, but I have some knowledge that times are tight for people and sometimes you have to sell your tickets. Like I said, I personally wouldnt do it but some people have to. Maybe someday when you grow up and actually have to make choices about what to spend your money on you will understand what this means. As a Michigan fan, you have to understand there are going to be enemy fans around, I guess I got lucky in section 35 that there were not many OSU idiots around me, to me it seemed like there werent that many more there than any other game. Like I said whether there are 3 enemy fans, or 30,000...man up...scream your lungs out and support your team. I am more disheartened about how quiet our crowd was at times then whether there were random bucknuts around... Aug

Its funny from what I am seeing on the boards apparently there were a metric butt load of OSU fans hanging about, but my section was honestly pretty much bucknut free. We had the usual few you are going to have for any game, but nothing special or especially bad... Aug

If times are so tough then what the hell are people doing spending hundreds of dollars on football season tickets anyway? I had to sacrifice and not buy season tickets this year because I just flat out couldn't afford it. If a person could shell out the hundreds+ to buy the ticket package, they can sell the ticket for a little less to a damn Michigan fan.

"I would say it was about normal, there was no more OSU presence than any other team I have seen in the past" is insane. there was an overwhelming number of them. in the last few minutes there were eeeasily far more buckeyes in there than michigan fans. when all the maize-clad fans started to leave it was incredible to see how red the stadium was

"And to you and the idiots on the radio saying there was too much red in the stadium today, I would say it was about normal, there was no more OSU presence than any other team I have seen in the past." I have never read a more incorrect statement in my life. You're just skewing facts to back your point.

At Alabama, fans who sell their tickets to opposing schools can be reported to the ticket office and have their tickets revoked. We should do the same. I'd rather have some empty seats than fans rooting for the opposition. I'd guess that there were at least 15,000 OSU fans in attendance today. That is shameful.

There was WAY more than 15k, at least 25-30, minimum. It was ridiculous, I couldn't believe it or how many of our "fans" left with five minutes remaining, only down 11. Way to support our seniors in their last game, especially one where the D finally showed up and stayed. Go Blue

No, I would say it was in the 15-20K range. It really varied depending on the section. The west side of the stadium and the north endzone didn't have many OSU fans; the east and south ends had more. But to be clear, I think it was embarassing that there were as many as there were, regardless of what the exact number was.

Anyone who defends selling tickets to Buckeyes are not true Michigan fans. Can't believe how much red I saw today, it is embarrassing.

My mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer in January. She moved here to live out her days with my wife and me. She spent 4 painfully agonizing months in the hospital with my wife and I swapping nights on and off there with her. I had many friends visit, but only one was there every single night to bring us food, give us company, and show us sympathy. He is an OSU graduate and a rabid buckeye fan. If I wanna give him a ticket to the game, and I did, I'm not gonna mind one bit if he roots for OSU while he is there. He had sodas, water bottles, and batteries thrown at him while we there. I was hit by quite a few misfires. I have never been this ashamed of some Michigan Fans in my entire life.

This is a nice story about a very kind hearted person who helped you through a tough timeand I wouldn't hold that against you, but let's get back to reality: I would like to do a quick survey of how many of those OSU fans that bought their tickets from a Michigan season ticket holder have a similar story to share. I'd guess not more than 2 of 15-20,000 OSU fans in Michigan Stadium today and the rest were motivated by much more frivolous reasons such as, but not limited to: "We are not good", "Rich Rod sucks and this is UNACCEPTABLE", or "this ticket is going to make me a lot of money - highest bidder, osu fan or not, will get it".

Agree completely. If showing up for this game is too much trouble, don't buy tickets. This goes double for the sorority girls and other students who show up after the first quarter, pay no attention to the game, and leave before the end, then sell their tickets to the big games. You don't deserve your tickets. I realize this is too much of a generalization, and it is out of anger from today's game, but I'm tired of the students who are fair weather fans, dont know anything about the team, and spend the game complaining about things they don't understand.

Student section was all Maize...it was everywhere else where there was more than a dash of red sprinkled throughout the stadium. Another point: It wasn't just the lighting on the camera...the closeups of the crowd showed OSU fans in full Bucknut garb everywhere intermixed with UM fans as if it were a neutral site.

I was appalled at how many OSU fans were at that game, but today sets a new dubious record for sure. There had to have been double or even triple the number of red-clad individuals that there were in 2007. If the university does nothing else, they need to start setting aside a single section for visitors. I'm SICK of this bullshit where opposing fans are sprinkled around the stadium. There were PSU fans in the student section this year, and OSU fans sprinkled through the entire Big House. That's a fucking disgrace. There's no other way to put it. NO other major Big Ten program would put up with this shit. Not OSU, not Wisconsin, not Penn State. Shit, even the hapless Gophers manage to make their stadium look relatively homogenous, and they have tough team colors to deal with. There is no excuse for this bullshit any longer. The athletic department and the university need to seriously rethink some of their policies.

blue_shift

November 21st, 2009 at 5:59 PM ^

It's a fucking disgrace, to be honest. And the university doesn't help by being so accommodating, either. Start selling the OSU tickets in a package. Not a four game package like I think they did this year, but one with five/six games or even the entire slot of home games. If anOSU or ND or PSU fans want to visit the Big House, at least make them pay Big Bucks for the privilege - if they don't use the other tickets or fail to re-sell all of them, the university profits and there are fewer opposing fans at our home games. A win-win. Secondly, enough with this bullshit where the OSU fans are dispersed around the stadium. Pick a section, like the northeast corner of the stadium, and put ALL of the opposing fans you sell tickets to in that section. It concentrates them in one place and keeps them marginalized. PSU, OSU and Wisconsin all do this - why aren't we? Season ticket policies need to change, in my opinion. It should be a "what have you done for me lately?" attitude - if a fan with season tickets doesn't attend the games, then for the love of god RELEASE those tickets and give them to someone more deserving. Maize is a lot more visually striking than blue - I'm personally in favor of making every game a Maize-Out. It simply shows up better - in the stadium and on TV. At the very least, ND, PSU, Wisky and OSU should all be Maize-Outs. And don't give me that bullshit about not having maize gear for cold weather. There sure as hell isn't a lot of pure white winter gear, but nonetheless PSU manages to pack Beaver Stadium with 100,000 screaming fans for White Outs. A maize sweatshirt is like $35 - if you can afford tickets to the game, then you can afford to get cold weather maize gear. Even assuming the big games aren't Maize Outs, the university could still hand out maize versions of the Terrible Towel or something. I remember getting a maize towel for the PSU game in 2007, so why didn't we get anything this year? It's frustrating to know that there are some steps the university can take to reduce this problem, and so far they haven't.

And they are "traitors," because no true Michigan fan would EVER sell their seats to Ohio fucking State fans, deserve to lose their season tickets. I'm a big fan of the way some of the SEC schools do it - there are people who actually report asshole fans and the university penalizes them. As much as I despise the SEC, I would kill to have some of their fans right now. At least they would actually show up for the game, wear the school colors, and make some goddamn noise.

Just an FYI on Wisconsin and their visitors sections....I was there last weekend and they had Michigan fans in 4 or 5 different areas of the stadium. They were at each end of the upper deck at the top half of each section. They were at the top few rows of the end zone opposite the student section/gigantic scoreboard. They were down in the lower level in the corner on the Michigan sideline. And they occupied the first 4-5 rows along the sideline behind the Michigan bench.

Why the FUCK would you buy season tickets and do that? There may have been 25,000 bucknuts at the big house today. There are at least 15,000 people who have purchased U/M season tickets (don't ever call these assholes fans again) that sold out their souls today. FUCK THEM ALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

East Lansing two years ago to see OSU's #1 team and they completely owned Spartan Stadium that day. I never thought I'd see anything close to that at UM but today almost was........very shamefull and disturbing on so many levels.

On the same page with everyone on here, it was disgusting. It's pretty bad when you're in your own stadium are in the minority in a section. I sat in sec 40 and looking across to I think, Sec 32, was downright sickening.

I've always wondered why it was like that. It was disgusting to see so many people wearing red. It did look like it was a neutral site besides the student section. Maize out all home games. Like someone said if you can afford tickets to the game, then buy a maize shirt!

"if you can afford tickets to the game, then buy a maize shirt!" To be honest, I'd be fine with that being next year's slogan instead of, or at least in addition to "All in for Michigan." I can see it now:
ALL IN FOR MICHIGAN "If you can afford tickets to the game, then buy a MAIZE shirt!" Go Blue! Wear Maize!"

Seriously, no one should have tickets based on longevity alone. If season ticketholders can't be bothered to attend the games and not sell their tickets to the enemy, then the university can't be bothered to renew their tickets. Simple as that. Students were generally good today, but I hate the fact that there were so many Greek guys/girls that either wore the wrong color of blue (there was actually a 2007 letter in the Michigan Daily about this very subject) or left at halftime. I don't know if there's much that can be done about that, but I would at least think that people attending a Michigan football game could be, you know, passionate about the game. I don't understand why people just show up and then ignore the game and do other stuff - frankly, it baffles me. There's lots of blame to go around - the university, Benedict Arnold fans, ambivalent students, etc.

As a devoted football fan and an active member of a Panhel sorority, it pains me when sh*tty fans make the rest of us look bad. The guys I know in fraternities are also really hardcore football/hockey/basketball fans, so they get similarly pissed at useless fans. As for the HIDEOUS tshirts, I wore them to pregame for Western but wore a maize shirt under it for the actual game. A girl in line to get in the stadium gave me shit about it behind my back; luckily my friends didn't tell me until after she was long gone because I would not have taken kindly to that. We're only supposed to wear them to the first game FWIW. I continually tell my sisters, "I have been to every home game since I was a freshman, never came late and never left before 00:00." I've actually bitched at girls for selling their tickets, because unlike most of them, I have a job and have to pay for things on my own, including football & hockey tickets. I like to think I'll make a difference eventually.

Earlier this week I posted briefly about how frustrated I was that people were selling off their tickets on Facebook. I didn't go into the fact that I was pretty much insulted when I publicly posted there for them to stop selling their tickets, but honestly the student section looked fine today. Everything else, not so much. There were at least 25,000 Bucks fans there and it's disgusting to me that people who are already paying significant money for that ticket are just...selling it off. The atmosphere was incredible though, so thank you to everyone who was there, it was worth the decade of waiting to be there.

Alot needs to change as far as our stadium culture goes. The people who've had season tickets for years and never actually use them themselves need to go. Too many people have season tickets and use them as a profit center, specifically the OSU game. It's a shame and NEEDS to stop.

It's so frustrating to see the efforts of our fans who are cheering, wearing the colors and supporting the team get buried by the mass of lazy, apathetic asshats who are supposedly "fans." As cliched as it sounds, a great deal of the blame belongs to some of the blue hairs who never wear maize, rarely cheer passionately, and often sell their tickets. It's time to review the attendance records of some of the season ticketholders and release their tickets if they haven't shown. There are thousands of deserving, supportive fans who would kill to have those tickets but can't because the asshats have monopolized them. Michigan season tickets aren't the Supreme Court - you shouldn't get them for life. They are a privilege, and only the true fans deserve to have that privilege.

The Buckeyes were everywhere. They did a O-H-I-O waive around the stadium for fuck sake! In the 20 plus years I have had tickets, that was the worst I have ever seen it from any visitor. If someone doesn't want to go because they are pissed at the program, they should at least have the common decency to sell their seats to Michigan fans. And hey, here's an idea - talk to the people next to you! When my wife and I can't go to a game, the people next to me get get my tickets and vice versa. They have family who are passionate Michigan fans and I am positive the tickets never end up in enemy hands. If you dont want to go any more, don't renew your tickets. If you can't afford the whole season, well that sucks. I really do feel for you, but buy a package or sell them to another fan. You are responsible for who ends up in your seat. Hell, even 'Bama fan gets that. I disagree that you can blame this on the "blue hairs." I sit in Section 9 (SE corner, the cheap seats). We were lousy with Bucktards. Season ticket holders of all ages share in this one. If you are one of those who did this to the rest of us, well, thanks a ton. Use the extra money to buy a Boren jersey.
