Pictures of Our Upcoming Opponent

Submitted by mikoyan on

So anyways, thanks to another blog (http://easterneagles.wordpress.com/ ), I have found myself in posession of a press pass for the EMU games.  So I've been given a chance to take some better sports pictures than what I can get from the stands.  Anyways, here are some pics from the last two EMU games.

EMU vs. Howard:

EMU vs. Alabama State:

But the cool part is that I will have a press pass for the game on Saturday, so I will be on the sidelines at the Big House.  I can't wait for this opportunity.

This is one of those "cool story bro" threads, but... it's actually a cool story. A freaking awesome story, more precisely.

MGoBlog needs an exclusive of Denard's smile after the first big play, so it's all you mikoyan.

I'm not going to make any guarantees on my pictures as I have no idea what to expect.  I mean at the Eastern games, I pretty much have run of the field and I don't have to jockey around other photographers and what not.  But I'm going to suspect that is not quite the case at the Big House.

I go to every EMU game I can (when it doesn't conflict with U of M).  They looked bigger this year than in previous years (or Howard looked smaller).  Maybe they will put up a fight.  Hell, for $70 a ticket, they'd better.

This is one of the few games where I'm actually conflicted.  I went to EMU but I've been a Michigan for much longer than that.  I like to see EMU do well but I don't expect them to actually beat Michigan.  So I end up hoping for a good game where noone gets injured.  Last time, I got a decent game (EMU seemed to hang for a half) but someone got injured....sooo....

Now, I'm not conflicted when EMU played Michigan State.  Just once, I would love to see EMU pulverize them.

I think it's more of the English effect.  Eastern has been a spread team for as long as I can remember (at least since the mid 90's).  English came on board and wanted to transform them into a pro style offense.  I think he may do it in a couple of years (if he's given a chance).

In your pics of the Howard game, you have the quarterbacks name incorrect. His name is Alex Gillett, not Andy Gillett. Had to say something, I coached him in HS. Good looking pictures though, should be a blast on the sidelines of the Big House.

The Eastern game 2 years ago (which coincidentally followed an opener against Western and a Hollywood finish against Notre Dame) was pretty frustrating for a while as I recall.  We were only up 24-17 in the middle of the third quarter.  Denard had 2 interceptions...although that wasn't uncommon because every long pass Denard threw that year was picked off.

Here's the real shocker.  For time of possession, EMU had the ball for 40 minutes, 2 seconds.  And this was a team that went 0-12.

Sorry mikoyan, but I'd feel much better if we didn't follow that script again.  I'd like to see Gardner get some snaps.

Not to be rude....but when Brady Hoke was praising EMU's accomplishments for the year-to-date, I was not aware that both of their opponents came out of the FCS.  That sort of changes my perception as to the scope of the improvements that Ron English has engineered.  That is really not all that impressive, particularly since we put up about 6,000 yards on an FCS team 2 years ago with Nick Sheridan and Jack Kennedy seeing action.  However, if EMU was typically losing to FCS opponents on a regular basis then I guess this is noteworthy.

We are talking a team that was 2 and 10 last year and 0-12 the year before.  They haven't had a winning season since 1995 and haven't been to a bowl game since 1987.  They have one of the dubious losing streak records and were almost booted out of Division IA in 1984 or 1985.  So we'll take anything we can get for a positive outlook.
