Picture pages by Burgeoning Wolverine Star

Burgeoning Wolverine Star has a couple of new picture pages that are well worth checking out. The first is on Kenny Demens figuring out how to defend the jet sweep versus EMU:

and the second is about pulling linemen on the QB stretch play.:

Both are well worth reading. Take away points:

  1. Kenny Demens may make mistakes, but he corrects them. HOORAY!
  2. We should zone block more.

mistakes, they will very good by the time the scarlet and gray invade AA.

I always love reading about how a defender learned from a mistake and improved and/or fixed an issue during the same game.  I don't remember reading or seeing this during the last administration(nothing against RR et al).

Zone blocking or gap blocking, either way that play was in trouble.  Eastern essentially had 9 in the box.  The playside DT was in a 3 tech, and as good as Molk is at reach blocking, he isn't going to reach block a 3 tech.  Barnum has to reach the 3 tech and Molk would go to the next level where there is... no one to block on this play because of the LB alignment.

What actually needs to happen here is an audible.  Either to a pass play or an inside power to the offense's right side.  There is a huge bubble over Omameh that could be exploited either by inside zone blocking or probably better gap blocking a power play by pulling Barnum around into the 3-Hole.  By doing this there would be a well sealed hole with only the playside corner to beat.
