Pick one Jaylen Brown or Caris Levert

Agree, I think this is where the discussion begins and ends. Talent level of what you'd get between the 2 next year is arguing apples to oranges but what we do know is Caris would only be here 1 yr, Jaylen maybe more.
Sure, but there is no guarantee that Brown will be great. We all think he will be, as do the scouts and coaches, but high profile recruits are sometimes busts. At least we know how good Caris is. Of course, Caris could also have a bad year, but the smart money is on he won't.
And you can also make the argument that Brown is going to light the place up, that's why I didn't make the comparison. The only things you know are Caris can only come back for 1 more year and Brown can potentially come for 4 (not going to happen but you can possibly get more than 1).

really a "turnaround" job though. It may be a final peice to the puzzle situation.
After 3 years he can't even grab 5 boards per game? Give me the high school kid...

Not even close? LeVert, if he returns, may well be the Big Ten's best player next season. Maybe Brown can outperform him next year, but that is by no means certain.
He was leading the team in points, rebounds, assists and 3-point shooting at the time of his injury. That's POY-level production.
How did that kind of make your point?
Even if he could make it through the year healthy, I haven't seen him show anything that he can be the alpha dog.
I think his production when healthy is enough to show he can be the "alpha dog".
Fragile how? This isn't Drake Harris. I can't think of other injuries off the top of my head. Dude's get hurt playing high-level sports. It happens.
minus the 3-point shooting. And he was not considered a serious POY contender. His numbers from this year would make him a serious POY contender in a down conference.
Whether or not he is the POY, a guy good enough to lead the team in all those categories is hard to replace. It's quite possible Brown might not be able to do all that.
But being a POY candidate means more than just leading the team in those categories. A lot of average to poor teams have one guy that can do that. And there's no guarantee that Caris will come back next year with the ability to match his 2014-15 numbers.
I'm sorry but I don't see Caris as anything more than a good role player while Brown has the potential to be a star. With the team coming back, I'd rather have the potential star who might be able to take them to another level.
Assuming his surgery was successful, I don't see why he wouldn't be able to make a full recovery.
If you want to argue that his 2014-15 stats were inflated because we didn't seem to have many other options, here are his 2013-14 numbers, when he played on a B1G champion, Elite Eight team:
12.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 2.9 apg, 1.2 spg, .439/.408/.767
That's a pretty nice stat line, and was done when he had much less experience under his belt.
Actually I never said that.
Really? What are you basing that on? Do tell...
really tough. Levert is more a known quantity but that injury is a question mark.

I'm a bit wary of proclaiming an incoming freshman to be a better defender than a senior. The college game is a big step up from high school.

Before we build up the hype train too much for Brown, let's not forget what happened to our top 30 recruit (Chatman) this past season. Yeah, I know, Brown is rated even more highly, but you never really know how these guys will fit in. Beilein's offense isn't necessarily that easy for freshman to grasp off the bat.

How do you know there's a huge difference? Did you predict Chatman to struggle this year?

Caris, he's experienced, knows the system and I'll take experience and leadership all day every day.
... doesn't mean that he will light up the stat sheet and help this team going forward like LeVert can. The pros are looking for athletes who can develop into a superstar in the NBA. LeVert is known commodity with great production. He is a first round pick player this year, despite missing most of the season. I go with LeVert

I know. My point still stands.

This thread is surreal. People are acting like Brown is somehow the proven commodity and LeVert (who was leading the team in points, rebounds, assists and 3-point shooting at the time of his injury) is an unknown quantity. It is, in fact, possible that Brown turns out to be a merely good player next year.
Not so, jmblue. You apparently have forgotten that every highly ranked basketball recruit is an immediate star player.
Way to jump to one of the best players ever....JB cann't hold Lebron's jock...How about Michael Bennett?
