Pick one Jaylen Brown or Caris Levert

Submitted by MgoHacker on
Title says it all who would you rather have for next year if their is truly no Beileinien way to get both. Both will be great offensively and both will head to the NBA after the year commences. Levert is almost certainly the better defender given his experience. Senior leadership is important however with Spike, Zak and Derrick there will be plenty. Caris is also very injury prone which is why I would lean towards Jaylen. What are your thoughts?

Sure, but there is no guarantee that Brown will be great. We all think he will be, as do the scouts and coaches, but high profile recruits are sometimes busts. At least we know how good Caris is. Of course, Caris could also have a bad year, but the smart money is on he won't.

And you can also make the argument that Brown is going to light the place up, that's why I didn't make the comparison.  The only things you know are Caris can only come back for 1 more year and Brown can potentially come for 4 (not going to happen but you can possibly get more than 1).

fragile. He is like the old Jaguar XJ6...was a really nice car when it was not in the shop. I want Levert and Brown. I just don't think he can handle being QB1 and stay healthy for a complete season in the rugged Big Ten. I also think his professional career is going to be more Manny Harris than Burke/Sauce Castillo.

But being a POY candidate means more than just leading the team in those categories.  A lot of average to poor teams have one guy that can do that.  And there's no guarantee that Caris will come back next year with the ability to match his 2014-15 numbers.

I'm sorry but I don't see Caris as anything more than a good role player while Brown has the potential to be a star.  With the team coming back, I'd rather have the potential star who might be able to take them to another level.

Assuming his surgery was successful, I don't see why he wouldn't be able to make a full recovery.

If you want to argue that his 2014-15 stats were inflated because we didn't seem to have many other options, here are his 2013-14 numbers, when he played on a B1G champion, Elite Eight team:

12.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 2.9 apg, 1.2 spg, .439/.408/.767

That's a pretty nice stat line, and was done when he had much less experience under his belt.

I had to look at it assuming perfect health. Really hard choice. Hope we get one of them for next yr. Team could be really good next yr. Just need an Alpha dog. I do think Irvin could turn into one if neither came

I don't really prefer one over the other. LeVert will be a Big Ten POY candidate - Brown will be a Freshman All-American candidate. In a perfect world, Caris stays, Brown comes, and we find another scholarship elsewhere.

Jaylen Brown is said to be an elite defender coming in so I don't think that Caris would be the better defender especially since Brown has more size. Idk if I could really pick one. They are very different. If I had to pick one it would be Caris bc there wouldn't be any early struggles with players finding their roles. Would be ecstatic with either tho.

Before we build up the hype train too much for Brown, let's not forget what happened to our top 30 recruit (Chatman) this past season.  Yeah, I know, Brown is rated even more highly, but you never really know how these guys will fit in.  Beilein's offense isn't necessarily that easy for freshman to grasp off the bat.

Huge difference between where chatman was and Brown. But yes Freshman are not always locks to live up to hype. Brown's athleticism will bail him out a ton. He probably isn't even thinking about coming here. That's why this thread is just so weird. Setting ourselves up to be let down when he obviously won't go here

... doesn't mean that he will light up the stat sheet and help this team going forward like LeVert can. The pros are looking for athletes who can develop into a superstar in the NBA. LeVert is known commodity with great production. He is a first round pick player this year, despite missing most of the season. I go with LeVert

This thread is surreal.  People are acting like Brown is somehow the proven commodity and LeVert (who was leading the team in points, rebounds, assists and 3-point shooting at the time of his injury) is an unknown quantity.  It is, in fact, possible that Brown turns out to be a merely good player next year.
