Pharaoh Brown update via twitter

Submitted by zohizzle101 on

Pharaoh Brown just tweeted-

For everybody who wants to know I never de-committed from michigan. They said they don't consider me a commit b/c my OV that's their policy

and

Yes I am changing my position and will be weighing all my options

Looks like there is still a chance we end up with him but it does look doubtful at the moment

Brown sounds like a lawyer with his slippery definition of "decommitment."  If he's "changing his position" and recognizes that what he did broke his earlier commitment . . . isn't that a decommitment?

And I doubt he put that much thought into his wording.  He's an 18-ish year-old kid making the biggest decision of his young life.  If he comes here, great.  If not, that's OK too.  The overanalyzing sometimes boggles the mind...

Yeah, wouldn't analyze it too much. Especially since I think he meant he wanted to be recruited as a TE and not a DE by "changing [his] position."

I realize I just kinda contradicted myself, but oh well.

It is actually the same way that Texas does it and that really seems to work out for them pretty well. I think it is too bad that he will not be in this class but Hoke and Co. have to stick to their policies. I say well done Coach.

I'm sad to see Brown go. He would've been a matchup nightmare if he developed up to his potential. Still, it's not like we're short on suitors right now anyway. Give me Diggs, Darboh, Wright, an OL, and one more stud, and I'll forget all about this.

While Hoke's policy has led to us getting a bunch of commits early, I'm wondering if some of the stragglers are doing so because of this policy.  For example, might Jordan Payton or Jordan Diamond have commited already if they knew that they could still take their other visits after doing so.

In the long run, I agree with this policy as we have only had this 1 decommit to this point, I'm just wondering if guys like Payton and Diamond might be committed if they knew they could still check out other places.

I think this policy might keep some guys from committing right away and we lose them in the long run, but I also think it's better than having guys commit only to back out later.  This way the coaches have a better idea of who's serious about coming and who they can expect to end up in the class.

Keeps predictability and lets U-M know who to pursue. Until a recruit agrees to cease other visits, it's all just talk. I like the policy, though only an elite program could pull it off.

Texas does this every year and usually has their class filled long before most of the country, thus leaving the last 3-5 spots for very specific recruiting targets with skills in area of need. Michigan isn't as recruit-fertile as Texas, but wins solve most recruiting concerns.

Perhaps this is why there were so many "silent" commits early on, and why some people haven't commited yet.  Jordan Diamond certainly wasn't ready to make that commitment.  Neither were Darboh or Payton.  But by them not commiting, and taking visits, no bridges have burned and they might still have spots in this class.

I wouldn't be surprised if others seeing this rule play out decide to take a little longer in the future to commit.  But I like the precedent.  Commitment has been getting to the point of being almost meaningless.  By this reasoning, Hoke certainly doesn't consider Dunn to be committed to tsio.

I won't lie, I don't like it. Sure, I agree with it, but something tells me that this decision might be questioned in the future. Reading about Pharoah, he may be much better than the scouts thought early on. He excels at every position and seems to be getting better as time goes. While I agree it sends a strong message, I hope that the other commits/recruits don't misinterpret what the message really is.

"I didn't de-commit from Michigan".  What a joke!  Whether he agrees with their position or not, what's he saying?  Hoke wasn't clear enough or he missed class the day Brady went over committment 101?  It is pretty clear by his actions he was wavering on his committment and wanted to open things up so he needs to back off trying to make us or our policies look bad!!

Isn't the policy just that you are no longer considered committed and a spot won't be held for you? But if Brown decides he wants to recommit, there's nothing in Hoke's policy that says he won't accept Brown's committment if there happens to still be a spot available.

So I don't think it would count as folding or setting a bad precedent if Brown recommits at some point.

I really hope this guy doesn't go to State and then proceed to blow us up for the next 4 years all because he took a visit to a school that has the coolest facilities in college football, and a school that many on this site have stated in previous threads that Oregon would be one of the top places they'd visit if they were a top recruit.

Although the mismatches Brown might create as a tight end are really intriguing, is it really a loss if his de-commitment means that we can take both Darboh and Diggs?  If, as has been suggested, Darboh is likely to commit after his official next weekend, and losing Brown means that we can keep the door open for Dunn, Diggs, Garnett, and Wright even with a Darboh commitment ... that might not be a bad deal.

Yes, I'm going by the Golden Rectal Horseshoe theory in explaining why we get all of those guys.  But if I had to bet, I think both Dunn and Diggs are going to go Blue.  We might be in a good spot with Garnett because of Magnuson's lobbying and the official visit, but I really have no good idea of where thing are with Wright.

According to Sam Webb this AM, Michigan no longer considers him a committment, but they are still recruiting him.  So, while I am not saying this is the case, hypothetically, what he would have to do IF he wanted to recommitt?  How could he "prove" that he his committment was serious this time and how does the coaching staff package that in a way that the other recruits think they were treated fairly?
