Pharaoh Brown update via twitter

Pharaoh Brown just tweeted-

For everybody who wants to know I never de-committed from michigan. They said they don't consider me a commit b/c my OV that's their policy

and

Yes I am changing my position and will be weighing all my options

Looks like there is still a chance we end up with him but it does look doubtful at the moment

However, there's a lot of eyes watching how Hoke's handling these things, and a preference is certainly being set with regards to extraneous visits by committed recruits.  Coach isn't just sending a message to Pharaoh Brown, and he's taking it seriously.    I REALLY respect that.

I wonder if he knew the policy before going on the Oregon trip. Not that I'd be happy with his decision even if he didn't but it is possible he didn't even inform the coaches he was going. Of course, when they make their commitment, I'd think Hoke (or another coach) would tell them the policy.

He knew, according to Sam Webb.  Webb stated that Hoke makes it clear that once you're committed , you're committed and it means no other visits.

From what it sounds like Brown just up and took a visit to Oregon w/o notifying UM.  Not cool, and if I were a UM coach I'd just go ahead and let him leave.

hard for kids to realize what the term "commitment" means.

For Hoke, it means you are all-in. 100%. No going backwards. No what-ifs.

It's a good policy. If there is still an open space in the class, I assume Hoke may give him a chance to commit. But This Is Michigan fergodsakes, and don't expect Michigan to commit to you if you can't reciprocate.

they may get a better player as a result, or they may not.  Either way, as i've said in an earlier post, It's a privilege to play for Michigan.  If no one ever holds these young kids accountable for their actions then they will never learn and grow from their poor decision-making.  Kudos to coach Hoke and his staff for sticking to their policies.

Hoke is handling this 100% correctly.  I have had to terminate productive employees who broke rules that, if everyone  broke, would lead to corporate chaos. It hurt when we did it but by doing so we sent a message that every employee heard about for a long time to come.

As difficult as it is to let somebody like Brown go - the message it will send will pay dividends many years down the road. Don't commit to Michigan unless you mean it.  And committment means you can't "look around" any more.

Brown sounds like a lawyer with his slippery definition of "decommitment."  If he's "changing his position" and recognizes that what he did broke his earlier commitment . . . isn't that a decommitment?

Yeah, wouldn't analyze it too much. Especially since I think he meant he wanted to be recruited as a TE and not a DE by "changing [his] position."

I realize I just kinda contradicted myself, but oh well.

I'm sad to see Brown go. He would've been a matchup nightmare if he developed up to his potential. Still, it's not like we're short on suitors right now anyway. Give me Diggs, Darboh, Wright, an OL, and one more stud, and I'll forget all about this.

Applause to Hoke if he holds firm on the policy. If he bends here, every other player will want the same. That would spell disaster.
