And Michigan has no shot at Bridges if Winston goes elsewhere per Sam Webb. The 2016 recruiting cycle is going to kick John Beilein in the teeth until it's over, apparently.

Good luck at State, Winston.

Man for all of Beilein's abilities, recruiting top talent just isn't one of them. That being said, I'd rather have a guy like Beilein who can flat out coach and get the most out of everyone he plays vs. a program cheerleader like Hoke who can recruit and can't do squat with any of the talent.

Listen, not every prospect wants to go to the nba, but also play in the hardest college conference for hoops and get a world class education. Otherwise, they'd go to the ACC or BIG XII.

Wow. So much for that big 2016 class everyone talked about. I don't see how anyone can deny that recruiting has been a big disappointment since the NC run.

Likely would have been more of a think had last year not happened. Yes, the championship run and the subsequent elite eight were nice but hard to sell a message of consistent success when the team
Shits the bed the way they did last year, it wasn't really anyone's fault and could have been expected but it did not help create a compelling recruiting narrative.

Here the thing though basketball recruiting is a long term process with only a few targets, so when a program is trying to build out of the doldrums Michigan was in it needs to have a consistent system(done) and it needs to show continued success(problematic given last season). The wave we all thought we were building to in 2016 didn't materialize, in my opinion, because the team had a tough season last year and that made it really easy to negative recruit against. There are other factors as well but, to me, that's why there's been an issue this year.

Alright then, turn up the heat on Aiken and the kid from Wisconsin and on to the next one. Basketball recruiting is frustrating, but the staff'll get its guys and as long as they come down with a point guard for this class then that'll round it out nicely.

Let's not tear our hair out over this one and I really think Stanford is the threat here and not State.

he's basically like Booker and many other recruits. they say they are really interested in Michigan, but they probably would have committed by now if they were. Michigan generally doesn't land recruits after these drawn out battles.

I believe Bacari is a UofD alum. Gotta land this kid. Article on scout today made it sound like he's visiting a week later than planned.

Something is not right with the Michigan basketball program. How is Beilein missing on every single elite recruit? Beilein is a great coach but that is only half of the equation in college.

Or...we landed a five star recruit, who selfishly decommitted after just claiming a spot from a five star recruit...screwing us entirely. He might not be the best recruiter, but shut the fuck up about him and his program.

All he does is win for christs sake. He took a program from the doldrums to a NC game.

All of you are whiny little bitches who put way to fucking weight on a single kid and his OV schedule

with the Michigan basketball program.  Although Beilein is an elite coach, he isn't recruiting anywhere near an elite level.  But that's not a knock against him.  It's a combination of bad luck on a couple recruits and primarily a reflection of the dirty world of basketball recruiting.  Beilein's high integrity works against him.  He expects players to be students and have high character.  He won't take known bad characters.  And I'm sure there's a lot of unethical behavior by other coaches and programs that he won't engage in.

I'd love to land more highly ranked recruits.  It would make another Final Four run more likely.  But I prefer a clean and ethical coach even if it means we aren't going to the Final Four most years.  And we will still have the talent and coaching to make Final Four runs anyway.

I know this is really isn't the case heard (because he's a local kid) but does Beilien need to relax his "no offer until you visit campus" strategy? I mean basketball recruiting start real early and Michigan is usually behind the 8 ball with some which hurts. I mean they recruit kids hard and put in the work but those kids technically don't have offers until they visit and a lot don't which means wasted time and effort
